SHITTYKAWA.

Tooru just pouts and pointedly shoves a piece of ginger into his mouth and chews it. After a moment he swallows and moves back to the gyuudon. “How rude, Iwa-chan. I’d wait for you! But this just proves how cruel you are, so eager to abandon me and our friendship. What’s so important that you just want to rush out of here for anyways, hmm?” 

It could just be Iwa being impatient, and well, Tooru is aware that he was just….fiddling with his food at this stage. But he couldn’t help it. He knew he didn’t seem it but well, he was a worrier. The type to get lost in his own thoughts if left to his own devices. It wasn’t even anything particular. Just an off day at practice, but he couldn’t stop thinking about it. What if he messed up like that during a game? 

As he eats his gyuudon, he resolves to practice even longer than usual after their regular practice the next day. A few more hours of practice is just what he needs. 

NOTHING IS IMPORTANT enough to leave for, he thinks, but it’s certainly more interesting than watching someone eat. iwaizumi hates people watching him eat. somehow, they always comment on something, like how big his cheeks really are when he stuffs them, or how he even looks angry when he’s eating something he loves. so he eats quickly, with big bites & large swallows of meat & rice. 

it’s UNFAIR to force it on someone else so they eat as fast as him, but iwaizumi doesn’t particularly care to be gentle around oikawa. he can eat faster, without any problem. & to urge him towards this, iwaizumi reaches over & pushes his bowl closer to his chest : a silent ‘ look at it. eat it. ’ type of expression in his eyes. 

‘  you’re not on some stupid diet, are you ? eating isn’t that hard -- i don’t have a problem abandoning a friendship with someone who doesn’t even have the mental capability to know how to eat his food.  ’

KAGEYAMA.

      ❝ IWAIZUMI-SAN !! ❞ fuck. so much for trying to not come off as overexcited. iwaizumi was one of the better parts of kageyama’s middle school experience. back then, kageyama was the smallest member of their volleyball team. it’s bewildering how kageyama’s caught up in height. ❝ ah– thank you ?? ❞ he clears his throat. ❝ how have you been ?? ❞

MOMENTARILY, IWAIZUMI LIFTS his eyebrows in surprise. kageyama has a volume to him that somehow doesn’t match up with the way he looks -- iwaizumi notes that he looks a lot more MATURE & SERIOUS now than he did in middle school. he must’ve had the chance to play a lot more games & grow up, then, hadn’t he ?

he chooses to brush the curiosity aside, & nods with a relaxed expression. they’re opponents now, but that doesn’t necessarily negate how he would treat one of his juniors from middle school.  ‘  ah. i’m fine ... it’s good to see you’ve settled in your first year. & you’re a starting player, too ... it’s impressive.  ’

             𝐈'𝐌 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓  𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐋,      he endeavours to say,      but the crunch of his toes below someone’s sole     ( and their lack of awareness  ————  they toss a confused glance over their shoulder,      missing him entirely )     stills the words upon his tongue.      ‘ i feel like an ant. ’      a gentle hand grabs the sleeve of his counterpart’s jacket,     unconsciously seeking solace.      ‘ this is really unfair,     you know. ’

IWAIZUMI isn't very tall either -- a fact he comes to remember every time he steps on court against a line of middle blockers -- but he's not that short. there’s no reason for karasuno’s jumpy little first year to imprint on him because of that ... right ? -- he prickles at the touch, feeling his brows knit together instinctively.  ‘  o-oi, why are you GRABBING me ? i'm not gonna lift you out of this ... i can’t even see the exit right now. don’t you have some kind of emergency call for your team if you get lost ? ants have chemical trails--  ’

hi here’s a list of my HIGHLY TENTATIVE headcanon ideas:

seijou is a private academy if i'm not mistaken, which is leading me to want to put iwaizumi in a comfortable/slightly higher socioeconomic status. either his father is in a managerial ( or higher ) level position, or both parents work. 

he listens to older music -- 80s/90s/old karaoke hits -- as well as probably some newer rock/alternative genres. but the majority of his music is older. plastic love, glass no sogen, dress down, ora tokyo sa iguda, etc.

hates cheese. cannot stand it. 

contrary to fandom opinion, is not handsome. literally does not stand out in person at all. he’s quite average, and doesn’t really care that he is. he has no sort of “inferiority complex” about being friends with oikawa/having a friend who dates more than him. he happens to be more “popular” ( i use that term loosely because it’s high school and popularity is a lame concept ) with the boys in his grade, anyways. mainly because he’s not annoying. 

has always been interested in movie special effects. in middle school he had a phase where he’d watch behind the scenes videos for famous movies to learn about how they developed their explosives/blood pumps/etc. surprisingly, it never ruined action movies for him. he still likes them a lot. 

naturally gifted with language. surprisingly did well in english, japanese, and japanese literature in school. by his second year of high school he had already skipped ahead and learned the majority of the jouyou kanji necessary for secondary school students. why ? part of the reason was because of a bet with oikawa.

that being said, iwaizumi isn’t normally competitive. but after years of friendship, oikawa knows how to push his buttons just the right way to get him to do things he wouldn’t normally do. and what for ? in the end, he knows he’s only making a fool of himself. but sometimes, in the moment, he’s blinded by emotions/aspirations and forgets the possible outcome -- a very live in the moment kind of guy, if you will. 

haha what’s fashion ? :)

somehow, ALWAYS manages to step in puddles. when he walks, he doesn’t always look at the ground/his feet, so there have been countless times where he’s simply stepped into a hole filled with water and drenched his pant leg up to the knee because he wasn’t looking. the same goes for slush/snow.
