[AITA] For making my husband who went to jail for me sleep on the couch?

I know how this sounds, but hear me out. My husband [49M], a cannibalistic serial killer, and I [39M] (same occupation) have been together for about a year now. We went after one of our victims, and we’d been arguing in the car about dog hair left at prior crime scenes (it wasn’t my fault Winston shedded so much), so things were already tense. The guy in question who we went after- let’s call him Gerald to maintain his privacy- was an abusive piece of shit, so his death was kinda warranted. Killing Gerald wasn’t actually a problem, we’ve been doing this for a while so it’s mostly second nature, it was what came after that really started trouble. I noticed that Gerald had a dog with him, a really sweet fluffy one who had dirt and blood caked on her. I, being a empath, noticed she was distressed, and looked to my husband, who was already shaking his head. I took the dog home anyway. (Her name is Cinnamon, she’s sleeping in the bed next to me while I type this.) My husband was not happy about this. He started waxing poetic (bullshit) about being ‘responsible for the life of another’ and ‘allowing whimsy to determine my rationale’, etc. etc. I told him to sleep on the couch and threatened to give the FBI an anonymous tip on where we were. AITA?

Hand in Unloveable Hand

Those are the words I think of when I think of Ed Teach and Stede Bonnet. Two people who think themselves unloveable- and perhaps there is a mirror, seen or unseen. A mirror, first, between them, as they bang against the silver-coated glass and fracture the space between them. Blood coats their fingertips as the cracks slice them to ribbons and yet- and yet, well, they begin to blend. Where does Ed begin? Where does Stede end?

At some point, it’s impossible to tell. They are yin and yang. They complete one another, and yet with each other they destruct one another in indeterminable ways, each creating the illusion of love where there is only naivety and pain. Perhaps Stede loves Ed. Perhaps his pirate fantasy was just that- a fantasy. But Ed is real. He’s realer than most and his monstrosity makes him human, as though a delicate scale was tipped and Stede was Anubis himself.

Maybe the mirror is the audience themselves. Do we see ourselves in Ed or Stede? Are we recovering krakens or are we simply succumbing to our true, animalistic nature? The mirror goes both ways, you see. The black paint will coat your eyes until you’re left holding a sword, or casting a bottle into the rocky sea. And the salty foam will always wash away the blood and shards.

But, ah, that is where the question lies. Is Stede good for Ed? The answer is likely no… but they are together a sinking ship.

And they will go down hand in unloveable hand.
