It's really funny having a Yuu/MC that's so genuinely nice to everyone even after the overblots, yet has the most tragic, soul-crushing backstory known to man. And that's what confuses everybody around them the most. Like, one of them has got to ask at some point: How could you possibly be okay with any of this???!!!
The answer: Dude, I've been through way worse back home. These are basically seven mental breakdowns with magic. That's less than I've had in a month.
It's literally just-

HAPPY DEVILDAY! 💝😈💝
Tumblr media
Happy anniversary to Obey Me! Nightbringer!
Even though I haven't played the game yet and have kind of fallen out of the fandom, I appreciate how you all are still going strong!
It's been an amazing ride, so thank you all! And a very special thank you to all the voice actors. I wish you all the best!

Soooooo....kind of a stupid question, BUT-
We know that mermaids based on different species of aquatic animals exist. As do beastmen, right? So, would it be weird to make a character based on a frog? (For context, I'm making a character based on the frog footmen from Alice in Wonderland).
Are beastmen just exclusively mammals? We know from the Sunset Savanna event that a character based on Zazu from The Lion King exists, but is he an actual bird beastman?
Are freshwater mermaids a thing? I doubt it, but frogs are freshwater, and I have no idea how to incorporate a frog-themed character otherwise.
Should I just give him weird eyes that make him look like a frog?
Would he be a fae then, since Malleus, as a dragon fae, is technically a reptile?
...I'm at my breaking point. Please help 🙏

I would like to clarify:
This was meant to be a lighthearted jab. I didn't think most people would take it so seriously that someone would make some....questionable comments about it (for context, read the two posts that came after this one on my blog).
Please, people! This was supposed to be funny, at least a little bit. It was just meant to be a slight call out to how messed up the translation can be at times, even without people noticing, which appears to be the case with some of the fans. (Key words being: AT TIMES. Most of the time, it's alright).
I understand that the translators are trying their best, believe me. It is a HUGE responsibility they carry. And I also understand that some people suck at reading between the lines when it comes to media that doesn't spell itself out for them.
HOWEVER, when most of the fandom needs constant clarification on what's true and what isn't, what the character's relationships are actually like, and that the themes of the story are taken out for censorship, that's a huge problem and it shouldn't be ignored.
I want everyone to have a great experience with the game, and it sucks to see people experiencing problems we shouldn't even have.
I feel like Twisted Wonderland is in its own 4Kids era from how bad the English translations are sometimes.
We got people out here believing Azul, Jade, and Floyd aren't really friends, Jamil's plan wasn't caused by the caste system and he's just out to get Kalim for no reason, Riddle is a whiney little b*tch, Trey not having a spine AT ALL, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I really didn't think the translations were that bad when it first came out, but as someone who's been following the story and has been a part of the fandom since the game's debut, I genuinely don't understand why they changed so much of the dialogue.
A call to the English translators: GET. IT. TOGETHER.

"If a pig catches both a human influenza A virus and an avian influenza A virus at the same time, it can spark a process known as viral reassortment — a genetic exchange in which flu viruses swap gene segments." "Those swaps can introduce dramatic changes, producing a new virus with certain properties of a non-human strain coupled with the capacity to infect and spread between people." "The death rate in humans may be upwards of 50 per cent, World Health Organization data suggests, though it's possible that milder infections are getting missed, skewing the case fatality ratio. Still, in a population that's never been exposed, the global impacts could be dire." "More human cases could also be happening under the radar among farm workers who've moved to the U.S. from abroad, don't speak English as their first language, and may be hesitant to seek medical help, he added." "So I think there's probably underreporting on both sides," Armstrong said." "If [H5N1] gets into a population where there's constantly animals going in and out … it might not ever leave."
I've been watching this develop for the past several days, and apart from being terrified most people will not take this seriously (I've seen a handful of people already shout conspiracy on social media and it's alarming to see, as always). What I wanted to point out is that pandemics are going to continue to be our 'normal.' I watched a great video on YouTube a while ago (I believe it was by Vice?) that touched base on how this is going to become our new reality because of multiple factors (such as our proximity to animals, and environments/etc). It was when Covid hit and they did a piece debunking some of the misinformation floating on the internet. If I can find it I will post it here because it was informative and relevant to pretty much any world crisis we will see around any virus that spreads among a human population.
This post isn't trying to fear monger anyone, I just hope more people are aware of what is happening because this is important to talk about. There are already cases (of cows getting this bird flu) in the US, and I won't be surprised if there will be instances in more countries around the world. As usual, keep washing your hands/keeping good hygiene practices, masking up (and if you aren't I hope you consider it), and taking precautions if you do happen to visit/work or go near a pig or poultry farm too:
I'll keep track of this here of course, but please stay informed folks. And also FU to any governments who will try to minimize this or try to diminish the severity until it's too late and community spread happens like Covid because their actions are influenced by capitalistic interests.

To elaborate a little further:
They didn't need to take out the master/servant element in Jamil's backstory because, unlike other media, it's not fetishizing or advocating for it. The story is actively explaining how damaging it is for Jamil, how demeaning it is for him to put himself down just to bring his "master" up.
Unlike other servants who do this as a job they take on themselves, Jamil was born into servitude. He didn't have a choice.
Not to mention that Jamil definitely would've been dorm leader if Kalim hadn't bought his way into NRC to be with Jamil. That's classism at its finest, and adds on to why he seemingly "hates" Kalim for it (and another example of Crowley's incompetence/greed).
Same thing goes for Riddle and the others: Riddle suffered extreme child abuse at worst and extremely strict parenting at best.
Leona was shamed for his more destructive magic and second prince status.
Azul was bullied and now suffers from terrible body and self-esteem issues.
Vil was typecasted/fetishized because of his appearance and was never seen as a "good guy" even though he was, like 12-years-old.
Idia is depressed and guilt-driven because of the accident.
And Malleus suffers from crippling loneliness and his fear of losing the people he loves because of his fae immortality.
ALL of that should NOT be skewed in the English translation. A lot of people can relate to these struggles. Heck, a lot of people have already! This is different than the dialogue for the game calling the ONLY darker skinned characters "exotic," cuz that's just weird.
There has to be some quality control for these things! Otherwise, we'll end up like early 2000s children watching the 4Kids dub of One Punch Man, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, or One Piece. And believe me, we don't want to go back to that era.
The reason why stuff like the master/slave theme gets omitted in EN for Kalim and Jamil and now 'spanking' has been changed to 'sweeping', so because they want to protect people who has triggers for certain things or find topics problematic. They heard how the community reacted to the Fairy Gala calling boys like Jamil, Kalim, Ruggie, and Leona as exotic. So it was now changed to windswept. They had to change master/slave thing because slavery is bad and spanking is considered major child abuse. If you want to stop localization removing stuff, then it's time for people to not be too sensitive about these things or just get the hell out of the fandom and series. If people are gonna be whiny about problematic themes, then just get out. Don't force companies to bend over backwards to change it.
There's a difference between changing problematic elements and taking out stuff that doesn't need changing at all.
The whole "exotic" terminology, as a black woman, I can definitely understand why that would leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Us dark-skinned folks in the real world are often fetishized even though we should be seen as normal by now.
It's good that the team takes precautions for unnecessary things like that, but you're right. The whole servant/master dynamic is a huge part of Jamil's background and motivation.
Heck, you can't escape the child abuse aspect of Riddle's backstory. Nor the child death (A.K.A Ortho). That's just unavoidable. Blatant, even.
I don't think the answer is to tell people to "get out" of the fandom really, I think the answer is to ask the translators to find the line between problematic terms and necessary plot themes. And maybe try to reason with our fellow fandom members about their concerns.

Ah! I see. Nice!
I don't know why the fandom is having such a hard time picturing Azul having a little brother based on Morgana from the second Little Mermaid movie. It could totally work in canon!
Let's break this down for a second:
Azul's parents are divorced. He was raised by his bio mom and his step-dad.
Azul says himself that his step-father is "the father he respects," which could mean that he has absolutely no contact with his bio-dad. He wouldn't know what he was up to or if he had other children.
Tumblr media
Azul's bio-dad could've also been a cecaelian (or octo-mermaid) and had another child, or he could've been a normal mermaid who got with another octo-mer after he divorced Azul's mother.
Heck, maybe that was the cause for the divorce in the place. Maybe he had an affair and destroyed his marriage himself. Or if you want to go a bit deeper, after their marriage fell apart for whatever reason, Azul's bio-dad wanted to recreate the family he lost and got with another cecaelian woman and had his little brother.
This point, in particular, could be a reference to the popular theory that Morgana was Ursula's half-sister. Same mother, different fathers.
The theory goes that Ursula was the result of an affair Triton's father, the former king, had with an octo-mermaid. Such a scandal would bring shame upon the royal family, hence why Ursula lived with her mother away from the prying eyes of the court, but it would also make sense why, in her youth, Ursula still had ties to the castle and lived there from time to time (according to the movie).
A few years later, Ursula's mother had another baby girl with a normal mermaid. He wasn't anyone special like the king, with no royal lineage or special magic of his own, making Morgana "unremarkable" in her mother's eyes. Or maybe their mother truly loved this man, and the relationship didn't work out, so she takes her anger and insecurities out on Morgana.
With all of this in mind, it's possible that Azul's bio-dad could resent Azul's little brother in some way, giving him an inferiority complex a mile wide, just like Morgana. He wouldn't stop talking about Azul and how great he's become, how his brother should strive to be more like him.
It was always: Azul this, or Azul that, or (INSERT NAME) why can't you be more like your brother Azul.
He would grow to despise his Azul, his own brother, who he's never even MET yet. That's sad.
Now you might be asking, how would Azul's bio-dad even know about Azul's accomplishments? Glad you asked!
Either A): Azul's mother is the only one in contact with him and updates him on how Azul's doing from time to time.
Or B): His bio-dad enrolled the Morgana stand-in in Azul's school by chance and heard through the grape vine that Azul became the deal maker non-technical crime boss he is now.
Or both. Honestly, both of these combined would push little male Morgana over the edge. His classmates hear the rumors about an octo-mer who granted devious wishes a few years back and are either scared of or really unimpressed by the little bro's lack of magical prowess.
The bullying and self-hatred haven't skipped a generation, and neither has the body issues. Instead of being insecure about being overweight, Azul's little bro is insecure about being way too skinny.
This went on way longer than I thought, but to wrap up: All this to say, if we got Jamil's sister, who is a reference to Jafar's twin sister from that obscure Aladdin game, I think it's plausible for Azul to have a brother.
Thank you, and goodnight!
