I’m surprised I haven’t seen more people talk about this moment. Out of all the jokes in this episode, this was the only one that made me feel… suspicious?

See, Jax has a tendency to look at the camera.

Pretty sure he’s done in in every episode at this point, and we still don’t really know why.

In the ep 5, he did it twice.

Now in the first scenario, there’s somewhat of a suggestion that he might do this because he knows Caine likes to watch them. But the problem with this interpretation is that I don’t see why Jax would care what Caine thinks, nor to entertain him.

The second scenario is what gets me.

Jax makes fun of Pomni for not knowing an NPC from a previous adventure while looking directly at the camera. I think what’s happening is that he’s assuming that there are people observing the circus, and that they would know of “disappearing guy” because they’ve seen all their adventures in the circus, unlike Pomni.

Now, this means that whoever Jax thinks is watching can’t be us- so I don’t think it’s a meta thing, since we’ve been limited to Pomni’s perspective + timeline.

I think that within the world the VR game exists in, Jax believes there are people out there watching them and is trying to communicate with them or get their attention or something.

And honestly, if Pomni had been live-streaming during her last abandoned building exploration… he might not be wrong (ofc, though, there’s no way he would have known about the YT thing pre ep 5, but I’m wondering if maybe Pomni mentioning her YouTube exploits added a piece to a puzzle Jax has been working on for a while now. Honestly… it might even be part of the reason he’s trying?? to befriend her…)
