Young Royals is so stupidly well-written I’m sitting here screaming into eternity over it. Everything is connected so meticulously, the characters all have their moments of unreliability and depth, and it must be such a gift to a young actor to have a show like this to showcase their skill. Not to mention literally all the decisions they’re making for Simon and Wilhelm’s relationship are what I dreamed of seeing in a queer story as a teenager but never thought would ever actually happen.

THIS!! small fandoms are the best but i don’t want to gatekeep something so great. i mean it feels so rewarding and incredible that they’re getting like global recognition?? i like to watch media from all over the globe and as a finn, when yr first premiered, it was nice to see a queer swedish series on netflix so i checked it out and oh god i’m glad i did. i watched it twice on the first day lmao. young royals deserves all the hype it gets!!!

Being part of a small fandom of a non-mainstream foreign show and watching it grow into an international phenomenal is so so rewarding.

I don't wanna gatekeep Young Royals. I want both the show and Edvin-Omar to reach the height of fame and love. I want them to get more international projects. I want Young Royals to get like 10 more seasons (given the story stays good) if possible. I want it all. But I also want everyone to know I was here first.

I watch so many stuffs from so many countries. I am a fan of so many big franchises and I watch Fallon almost regularly. And yet this is the most emotional I have felt for the success of a show. And this is the first time I felt that being on Fallon is such a big thing. I'm so proud of Young Royals team and our little fandom. I'm just gonna go cry in the corner now.

I want and *think* that the Season 3 opening will be heavy breathing, followed by someone, probably Simon, saying "Wille."

Season 1 starts out with heavy breathing and an unknown voice saying "Prince Wilhelm."

Season 2 starts with heavy breathing and Kristina saying "Wilhelm."

I love that they start the same way, and that the first word each time is Wille's name, but less formal as we get to know him more....

This is what I was talking about.

This is exactly why the whole "Queer characters can only be played by queer actors" argument, or the queerbaiting celebrities argument is not only unhelpful, it is actively harmful. You are not entitled to other peoples identity. You are forcing people to come out in order to protect their careers, when they may not have wanted to share that with the world. Real people can not queerbait. Real people can not be bad representations of themselves. Do not conflate how you treat fictional characters with how you are allowed to treat real people. We can not keep having the same conversation. Forcing people to come out or else face social consequences is Bad. Always. Everytime.

In this case, Kit is literally a teenager who has been facing overwhelming amounts of online abuse for not being open about his personal identity.

Im seeing it with other queer media too. With nicholas galitzin and taylor zakhar perez in the red white & royal blue movie, people demanding that they should have been recast with "actual queer actors" despite the fact that we do not know if they are or are not queer. We can never know until they tell us that they are, which they have not.

Im also seeing it with young royals. With the new season coming out later today, the speculation on omar and edvins sexuality and relationship is incredibly harmful and toxic. They are real people, please treat them like people instead of fictional characters you can write rambling, speculating paragraphs about.

I'll say it one more time.

You are not entitled to other people's identities.

i don't rate books based on character development and plot holes. if it made me bawl my eyes out and search up its fanarts at 3 am it's a 5/5

normalize reading a book without caring if the spine breaks, folded cover, misspelled annotations and just ruining the book completely as a form of art

i have to get this out of my system.

i know it’s been quite some time since ssss ended, and even longer since minna’s announcement about ending it.

and yet i cannot get it to my understanding that something so beautiful would come to an end like that. the ending is so… bleh. ssss was something very special and important to me and many others. discovering it felt like a blessing of sorts, as it had everything i could ever ask for in a series. the world building, the concept, the characters, scandinavian and finnish mythology, different cultures, multilingual characters, adventure, action, horror, and the cozyness of the entire storyline.

this comic grew onto me so completely i feel like i can’t function anymore. it hurts even more now that i have read minna’s new comic, a meandering line. according to the comic she had plans to continue ssss for the next decade or so, or as long as she could stretch the storyline. she seemed to have been enthusiastic about it even when she already had converted.

but instead she’s now making a comic about christianity. of course these are her comics, always were, and what she decides to do with them is entirely up to her. but abandoning the project entirely just because your faith doesn’t align with that of the characters and the message of the comic? it’s heartbreaking and pathetic.

it feels like christianity has yet again taken something away from me. as christians (and christianity to some degree) already irk and terrify me, now they’ve done this; in the form of minna now being a christian. for me ssss is The Comfort Comic (or any form of media). the importance this comic held and still holds to me can’t honestly be exaggerated. i simply love it. i do. the author converted to christianity and BAM it’s gone. just like that. and it’s left me feeling empty.

what breaks my heart even more is how minna now speaks of it. on her website, upon introducing her comics, she seems to not hold any emotions toward ssss. i could of course be wrong, but it’s almost like she regrets her older comics.

maybe i’m being dramatic about someone else’s project but as a fan and as someone to whom this comic was sometimes the only reason to get out of bed i overall just feel disappointed. i wish things hadn’t gone like this.
