An original piece for an art assignment. I used dark foreground elements to help frame the drawing and create a sense of depth. I tried to lead the eye to different focal points with hanging vines and chains. I mainly used hatching and cross-hatching for adding tonal values. This piece was a bit of a challenge after having drawn small thumbnails.

Another tonal study. For this piece I used a mix of cross-hatching and shading. I found it difficult to add finer details with the shading but, I am happy with the form and line work.

The main focus for this piece was tonal values. I used cross-hatching because i felt more confident with it. In future i would like to work on blending for a smoother transition between tonal values.

landscape thumbnails for an art assignment. while working on this piece I experimented with a few shading techniques including tonal shading, hatching, cross-hatching and stippling. In future I would like to work more on shading to create a better contrast between foreground and background for greater depth

here are a few character thumbnails for a game I am working on. My main focus was on creating strong silhouettes before adding any tonal value

2D Aesthetic analysis
Ori and the blind forest is a 2d open world platformer, Featuring a gorgeous art style.
set in a massive forest with a very bright and vibrant color pallette, the game rapidly changes in to cold
and mysterious color pallette as the forest starts to decay which greatly complements the beginning of the story.
The game is essentially a coming of age story inspired by 'The lion king' and 'The iron giant'. As Ori progresses through many challenges the forest is slowly restored working its way back to a bright vibrant color palette.
I personally think the game aesthetic is amazing, after seeing some of the artwork I really wanted to play it. Combining the soundtrack, art direction and gameplay mechanics I think this game is a masterpiece.
Throughout early gameplay a common element is the color blue stands out, symbolizing Ori's loneliness, along with the game's mystery, fantasy setting.
