Sure, I’ll share some of my favorites. They’re all about Zuko because I’m obsessed

(warning: these are indeed dark and contain rape/noncon)

Payment: I read this a lot. Zuko gets gang raped in the boiling rock.

Held Captive: Oldie from fanfiction.net and probably my introduction to Zhaoko. Early chapters are brutal and there’s some hurt/comfort too.

A Simple Trade: Book 3 au where Zhao is still alive and comes to get revenge against Zuko. Rapes his mouth and ass in the forest.

Seek Comfort: Modern Zhaoko which I love. Zhao rapes Zuko while he’s drunk and later coerces him into sex again.

Extra Credit: Incomplete but I’m excited for where it goes. Modern au, June is Zuko’s professor and rapes him in exchange for a grade.

stronger than lover’s love: Book 3 au, Zhao is alive and rapes Zuko while his friends are forced to watch. It has art too.

My friend just finished Avatar: The Last Airbender, and asked me for some fic recs. So I guess you're getting some too.

Embers by Vathara - Amazing AU of the series that focuses on Zuko and his personal growth. More in-depth worldbuilding than almost any other piece of fiction I have ever read. No sex scenes, but lots of discussion of what 100 years of war have done to a world, and it's not pretty. Rape is discussed in one chapter, but there is nothing graphic. If you read nothing else on this list, read this one. AO3

Drinking Tea and Waiting by Kimberly T - A short fic that looks at why Iroh might have not accepted the throne of the Fire Nation. Short and sweet, with a little action and a lot of Iroh being Iroh.

Go (and Burn) by Twin Enigma - AU one-shot focusing on Zuko. A little ambiguous in ending, but very good.

Salt the Earth by Seito - One-shot Zuko AU. Spite can carry you far, or Zuko is a little less loyal to his abusive father.

The Avatar and the Firelord by alkatie - AU one-shot. In a world different Avatars have come and gone during the century of conflict, the new Firelord trying to create peace and learn about the other nations. Katara is suspicious.

Another Brother by AvocadoLove - AU, where Zuko is taken from a captured Fire Nation ship as a child, and raised with Sokka and Katara. Amazing work looking at what would have changed without Zuko in the Fire Nation. Anything AvocadoLove writes is amazing.

good bones by metacognitive - One-shot looking at Sokka's life after the series. "You're a good man, Chief Sokka," Tonraq says. Sokka laughs. "I will be," he tells them, "I promise you that."

One by AvocadoLove - Okay, this one is really, really dark. Not a lot is described, but enough is, and more is implied. Under Ba Sing Se, Azula kills the Avatar and imprisons her brother. Has a little hope at the end, but read with caution and take care of your self. Still really, really good.

The Problem with Zuko by AvocadoLove - AU one-shot. Iroh is Firelord and Prince Lu Ten has just captured the Avatar and his allies. Zuko is put in charge of the Avatar's captivity, and begins to wonder about the truth of what he has been told his whole life. AO3

Dragons in the Sun by donahermerphy - AU story about Zuko. Ozai favors a permanent form of "banishment", but the spirits disagree. With dragons!!

Breaking Point by Kryal - AU one-shot. After the Agni Kai Zuko is placed in the Home Guard. After watching how his father treats the Home Guard, Zuko can't bear it anymore.

The Dragon King's Temple by Kryal - AMAZING ATLA/Stargate crossover set about a year after the defeat of Ozai. Zuko and Toph meet Sam Carter and Janet on a Go'auld ha'tak, and hijinks and emotions ensue. From this fic alone I want to find a way to watch Stargate.

Looking Glass Wars by Lady Azar de Tameran - AU two-shot. After Firelord Azulon is assassinated, Zuko runs for his life. AO3

Let it Flow Through You by JaggedCliffs - Zuko never manages to produce lighting, but electricity is more related to lightning than most believe.

kintsugi by discordiansamba - Zuko gets dumped in the Earth Kingdom. Stealing from a nobleman might be the best thing he ever did. Or, Toph never got a life-changing field trip, so now she gets to hog him.

Zuko and Sokka write letters to one another and form a connection. Doesn't stray extremely far from canon, but enough to keep things interesting. A lot of very sweet moments and also many very hot and steamy ones (guaranteed to make you fan yourself while smiling until your cheeks hurt!). The way the author writes relationships - both romantic and otherwise - is super compelling, and this series is really driven by excellent character development.

This one is quite dark at times and there's a lot of wump, but the slow build of the relationship between the boys is great and it's not lacking in comfort! A lot of badassery in this one, and there are some great funny moments too - I love the way the author portrays the characters. A great blend of hurt/comfort and extremely well-written!

I know ABO isn't for everyone, but if it floats your boat then I think you'll enjoy this fic. And the Air Nomads haven't all been wiped out in this fic, which is lovely to see.

I was so obsessed with stories about Zuko being an amazing Fire Lord whose people adore him and this is one of the best fics I've ever read with that premise

Mid-Season-One Zuko is held ransom by Chief Hakoda. Ozai's replies to the Water Tribe's demands are A+ Parenting. Hakoda is… deeply concerned, for this son that isn't his, and who might be safer among enemies than with his own father.

If you like atla and you're not reading muffinlance then what on Earth are you doing?? This is such a good story!! I feel like I can gush about it for days but just read pleaseee for some quality "zuko gets kinda sorta accidently adopted" fic

6) Towards the Sun Words: 57,299 Chapters: 21/? Rating: Teen+

Zuko botches his escape on the day of the eclipse and sits out the war in prison. What will the Gaang do with a new Fire Lord they can't trust? Season Four "Zuko never joined the Gaang, and he's really bad at being good" AU.

A silly, sweet and hilarious story that I adore with my whole heart

8) Fractures Words: 151,217 Chapters: 24/? Rating: Teen+

Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.

A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of this new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh is misunderstanding a few things, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.

This is such an amazing work 💕💕💕💕💕💕

9) All The Gentle Creatures Words: 9,991 Chapters: 1/1 Rating: Teen+

It’s said that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. Zuko may be loud and stubborn and sharp but all the woodland creatures love him.

Some people are born with soulmarks. Zuko has them, but his grandfather burned them off because they "make you weak."
