Chapter Three: This Side of Paradise
Read here on AO3
How did James and Lily go from disliking each other to falling in love?
They spent time together didn't they? That's how most people do it.
In past interviews, James had described his relationship with Lily Evans as "love at first sight."
That's because it was. Just because it started with love doesn't mean that they didn't have their problems in the middle.
Were any of the other boys in relationships at the time?
No, unless you count Frank who at the point was dating Alice, but they hadn't made it official at this point.
And according to Emmeline Vance herself, she was involved in the band during the early days. How did she meet them?
She lived with them. At Maxwells house. She shared a room with James.
//
Emmeline hated sharing a room with James.
He was messy, he was loud, and above all, he was a complete inconvenience whenever she wanted to bring someone home with her.
She always texted him, a quick and simple rabbit emoji, a quick way of saying "I'm about to bring someone into our room who I intend to have sex with. Please clear all of your shit to the side and go sleep on Sirius and Franks floor please."
But did he ever do it? Nope. Never. Not once.
One time he left a framed photo of himself with rose petals and candles on her bed.
Another time he had Sirius and Frank play the loudest least sexy music ever from their room once they had heard Emmeline and their date come in.
Another time James had replaced all of the photos of her friends and family with photos of the Backyardigans with James photoshopped into them. (They don't even know where he found the time for that one.)
And this time James hadn't even bothered to check his phone.
"Jesus Christ James what are you doing?" she asked the lump of blankets on his bed. She turned to her companion, a tall blonde girl with blue eyes, "Im so sorry, I told him to leave."
Her date just shrugged and started to gently kiss Emmeline's neck, "I don't mind so long as he's quiet," she said.
"Please don't," James squeaked from his bed.
Emmeline rolled her eyes. "Could you give us a second please?" She asked the blonde.
After the girl (she couldn't remember her name) left the room, Emmeline stormed over to where James lay. She pulled the sheets from on top of him and folded their arms. "What are you playing at?" she hissed.
James didn't answer, just mumbled a bit and waved his arms about.
"Are you drunk?"
"Nurr."
"Are you sure?"
"Nurr."
Emmeline uncrossed her arms, "What's this about, James?" she asked, their voice much softer than it was before.
James sat up, "It's nothing it's just... nothing. I'm sorry I didn't see your text I'll leave." He began to get out of bed.
"Hang on a sec. Wait up," Emmeline held their hand out and James sat back. "What's going on?"
James sighed and opened his mouth to answer when Sirius and Frank entered the room. "Why is there a lesbian in the hallway?" Sirius asked.
Emmeline gave him a look, "Nevermind about her, why is Potter depressed."
"I'm not depressed."
Emmeline's look was pleading.
Sirius sighed, "You remember that girl that he met at Christmas?"
"Dark red hair that reached her chest, emerald green eyes, plus size, has a smile that glows, exactly a head smaller, three piercings, a tattoo of a wolf behind her ear and wearing white Doc Martens?" She nodded. "Yeah, I remember."
"She was at the gig we played today and she rejected him."
"Well bloody hell is that all?" Emmeline sounded offended. "I thought someone had died or something but you're cockblocking me just because you couldn't get laid yourself. That is low Potter."
Emmeline could hear Frank trying to hold in his laughter and James looked up at her with a shocked expression.
"I didn't see your text!"
"I sent you fifteen rabbits! Fifteen! If that wasn't enough indication that the girl I was bringing back was important-"
"I DIDN'T SEE IT!"
"YOU KNOW BETTER THAN TO NOT CHECK!"
"Alright! Alright, inside voices both of you," Sirius got between them. He turned to Emmeline. "Emme. What's so important about the lesbian in the hallway?"
They shrugged, "First fuck of the year ain't it?"
Behind her, Frank started laughing. In front of her, James looked like he was about to kill them.
"All of this for some random lesbian you found off the street?" Frank wheezed.
Emmeline's face scrunched up in disgust. "Alright let's get some things straight," she said, wagging her figure at each of them. "Firstly, it's the first day of the year I need a good start. Secondly, she's bisexual, and thirdly I didn't find her on the street she was at a house party that I just came from."
"So all of this for some random bisexual that you found at a house party?"
"To start this new fucking year off right! Can't forget about that!" Sirius chimed in.
Emmeline had never wanted to hit them more.
"Are we done?" James asked. "I'm a bit over talking about this."
"Oh, I'm sorry your highness are we bothering your coming of age moment?" Frank asked sarcastically.
"Yes, you are ruining my coming of age moment." James hissed. "Now if you don't mind, I prefer to be depressed alone, not with you lot and a bisexual from a house party!" He pulled his covers back over himself.
"Aww come on mate don't be like that. So you don't reject for once in your life it happens to everyone. Doesn't it guys?" Frank said turning to Sirius and Emmeline for support.
"Yeah, the amount of times I've flirted with straight dudes is embarrassing," Sirius said the same time Emmeline said, "Ah not really I'm a catch."
This got a smile from James.
"Ay, there's a smile!" Frank beamed. "C'mon, well go to the pub. Turn that frown upside down."
James' smiled grew and he nodded, finally getting out of bed. Emmeline, Sirius, and Frank cheered.
"Wait!" Emmeline said, "What are we going to do about the bisexual?" she whispered as if she could hear them from the other side of the door.
Frank shrugged, "Bring her along!"
They cheered again and made their way out of the bedroom door. Only to find that the girl Emmeline had brought back was no longer there.
"Ahh fuck her," James said when he noticed Emmelines disappointed face. "She would've brought the mood down anyway."
The Leaky Caldron was the quietest any of them had seen it. It was past 1 am by the time they had gotten there and most of their company were about to do their last rounds.
Sirius preferred it like this. It was easier to get a drink, it was easier to hear your friends and it was easier to actually move around. He was never fond of really crowded places like that.
Emmeline had gotten them all the first round and James got the second, by the time they were on the third Sirius noticed three guys walk into the pub. He immediately recognized one of them as Lily Evans' friend.
He opened his mouth to tell the others but Frank jumped in before he could. "Hey, those guys were at the gig today," he said subtly pointing at them.
James went pale, "Yeah, and one of them was talking to Lily when I went up to talk to her," he muttered.
Emmeline hit Frank's arm, "See what you've done," she hissed. "Don't worry Potter, Ill go throw my drink over him. Now, which one was it?"
"Emme, we've talked about this you cant just throw drinks over anyone you like," Sirius told her and slapped her hand away from her drink.
Sirius expected them to make some snarky come back, but instead they just stared at him and raised an eyebrow. Sirius was about to ask her what the hell she was doing when she threw her arms up and gave him a disapproving look.
"Really Sirius?" she asked. "Out of all the people for you to fancy it has to be one of them?"
Sirius went bright red, "I haven't got a clue what you're talking about," he lied.
"Don't lie to me."
"Well, I can't help it can I?"
"Oh my god, Sirius. Right, which one is it? I'll throw my drink over him instead."
Sirius nearly jumped out of his seat, "Why do you have to throw your drink on anyone?"
Emmeline gave him a judging look. "You can't date the friend of the girl who broke your poor mate's heart, Sirius."
"Yeah Sirius," Frank said in a mocking tone. "You can't break girl code."
Emmeline side-eyed him but ignored his comment. "Let's say you two date, and you falling love and get married and James is your best man while whats her name-"
"Lily Evans"
"- Lily Evans, is his best woman. And those two have to help plan your wedding, but they can't agree on anything because James holds grudges and your wedding is ruined. Do you really want your wedding to be ruined?"
James raised his eyebrows. "That's why this is bad? Not because of my feelings or anything?"
"I was getting to that."
"No, you weren't!"
"It was implied!"
Sirius downed what remained of his drink. "Alright, alright," he intervened before they could get any more annoying. "I just won't date him, you don't have to throw your drink over someone every time we go drinking Emme. We'll just continue our lives and never see each other ever again." Although if Sirius was being honest, he didn't really like the idea of never seeing his mystery boy again. "It's not like we talked or he took any notice of me anyway."
"Emme, get your drink ready," Frank said suddenly. "One of thems coming over here."
Sirius" head shot into the direction where Frank was looking. Unfortunately, it was not the scarred boy but rather the oldest of the group. Sirius wouldn't be surprised if he was the other three boys' father, as it was obvious that they were all related somehow.
Meanwhile, James had to steal Emmeline's drink before she could get her hands on it.
The man noticed that he was being watched and gave the group a small smile. "So sorry to bother you," he said as he got closer, "But were you by any chance the band that played at the fate earlier today?"
Nobody answered for a moment, each one of them was waiting for someone else to take one for the team and talk, in the end, it was Frank.
"Yeah, we were," he told him. "Were you there?"
The man shook his head but smiled. "No, but my sons were," he said pointing to the table where the three boys sat. Upon realizing that the group was now looking at them, each boy quickly turned their head to make it look like they weren't watching. All of them seemed embarrassed. The man laughed.
"They seem to have this problem when they see someone they know and their first reaction is to hide rather than say hello."
The four of them laughed awkwardly as if they weren't the exact same.
"Anyways, I just wanted to come here to prove a point," he said with a friendly smile. He turned to leave but backtracked on himself and pulled a card from his pocket. "Actually, if you guys ever need somewhere to play there is this club that likes to play small bands. Give them a call if you like."
Emmeline immediately reached for the card and took it from him, before any of the boys could tell him that "they're not a small band."
"Thank you, much appreciated," she said with a smile and the four of them watched as the man walked away.
Frank took the card from Emmeline and read it over a few times, then he and Emmeline began talking about if it would be worth giving them a call. James stayed silent and finished his drink, only giving his thoughts every now and then. Sirius on the other hand hadn't taken his eyes off the scarred boy, who was now interrogating his dad, along with his brothers. For a split second his eyes shifted and locked with Sirius'. He gave him a smile - that one that you give to random people on the street - and looked down at his drink.
Shit, Sirius thought. There is no way that I'm never seeing him again.

Chapter Two: You Gotta Not
Read here on A03
So Lily Evans brought a big asset to the band?
Only if you consider Remus Lupin to be a big asset, which I do.
Did Lily introduce them?
In time.
What happened in the meantime?
Before Remus joined the band there was just James, Sirius, and Frank. They lived together in this house called Maxwells house. It belonged to these twins Fabian and Gideon and they opened it up to anyone who needed a home.
And what was Remus doing? What were you doing?
I was in Germany at the time, Remus was at university. But he had been friends with Lily since they were young and even though he was staying in a student accommodation he wasn't too far away for their friendship to change in any way.
//
Lily and Remus had spent New Year's Eve together. One of Remus' classmates held a party which they attended and stayed until the clock struck midnight. By the time they had made it back to his accommodation, it was three in the morning. They had both slept in Remus' bed without bothering to change their clothes or even take their make-up off, which then lead to one of the worst mornings in both of their lives.
It was eight in the morning when Remus's phone went off. He groaned when he saw his twin brother's name appear on the screen and held the phone to his ear.
"Hello?"
"Re, where are you?"
"What do you mean?" he paused. "Am I supposed to be somewhere?"
He could practically feel Rom rolling his eyes. "You and Lily both promised Mum that you'd help with the fate. Remember? The fate? The one that Mum has been stressing over for weeks?"
Shit.
"Ohhh yeah, yeah I completely remember god who do you take me for? Yeah me and Lils are on our way now, well be like five minutes tops I promise." and with that, he quickly hung up.
Shit Shit Shit Shit.
"Lily come on, we have to go," Remus said quickly as he shook his best friend awake.
Lily only groaned as she lifted her head off the pillow, she watched Remus rush around the room to grab the makeup wipes and cleaned off the smudged eyeliner he still had on.
Lily didn't wait for an explanation, she just got out of the bed and found her way towards the nearest hairbrush.  It wasn't until they were waiting for the bus that Lily had asked where they were going.
"My mum's thing, remember? We said we would help."
Lily didn't look like she remembered but she nodded anyway.
"How long do you think we'll be?"
Remus shrugged, "No idea. Why? Got somewhere to be?"
Lily rolled her eyes, "Got a hangover to cure is more like it."
They had gotten to the fate twenty minutes later and immediately regretted not faking a sickness to get out of it.
Hope Lupin was a powerhouse and an amazing mum, she was loving and caring, and gentle. But she was a single mum who had raised three boys and was in the middle of raising another, which made her incredibly scary when she was stressed.
"There you two are!" she exclaimed when she saw Remus and Lily making their way down the field where the fate was being held. "I was about to send Petunia off after you guys, honestly why are you so late?"
Remus panicked, "Headache," he said.
Hope placed her hands to her hips and raised an eyebrow, "Is headache code for a hangover?"
They both nodded.
Hope sighed, "There's coke, bananas, and water in that tent over there. Go and tip half of the water out of a bottle, fill the rest with coke, drink that, and eat a banana. I don't have time for this." she told them, quickly adding, "Its a hangover remedy," after seeing their confused faces.
"Where was this remedy all the other times we've been hungover?" Lily asked, acting offended.
Hope shrugged, "You never asked."
"Still could've been useful."
"How am I supposed to know that you're hungover if you never tell me!?" Hope exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air and turning her back on them in order to do other things.
"You're Mum!" Remus yelled back. "You know everything!"
"Two minutes! Get a move on!" was all that Hope yelled back.
As Hope had promised the flat coke and bananas had helped their hangovers but unfortunately didn't make them any more prepared for the long day ahead of them. Remus' parents had divorced three years ago when Lyall had admitted that he had fallen for someone else. Remus doubts that his parents have ever been in love. They had his older brother, Lycus when they were in their twenties and before they were married. They did get married not long after he was born and three years after that they had Romulus and Remus, the twins also weren't planned. Neither was Macca, Remus' younger brother who was only 2 years old at the time of the divorce.
His father's new girlfriend didn't last very long and got intimidated by the fact that he had four sons. Romulus has always said that he was certain that there was no girl, to begin with, they had never met her and their dad wasn't exactly someone who had luck when it came to romance. Romulus swears that he made her up to use as an excuse to get a divorce. Lycus believes him. Remus doesn't.
Hope and Lyall still remained close friends and the boys are allowed to stay with either one of them as much as they like, but they spend the majority of their time with Hope, or at least Lycus, Romulus, and Remus do. Macca, who is now five, spends Monday to Thursday with Hope and Friday to Sunday with Lyall in hopes that he will grow up to have a close relationship with both parents.
Remus had nothing against his father, he was a good dad and never failed to make Remus feel loved. But he wasn't yet out to his dad yet and wasn't sure if it would go well if he did come out to him. He likes to think that his dad would try to be supportive but still doesn't want anything to change between them. Not only that but he preferred his mum's cooking.
Lyall worked as a teacher for a primary school near where he lived and Hope owned her own florist in town but would always pop into the other shops there to see if they needed any help when she had the time, which is what led to her helping out with the local coffee shops fate in order to help raise money for cancer research. This wasn't the first time Hope had dragged her children out of their usual routines to stand in a field in the middle of winter and most certainly won't be the last. But they always came, Remus would never admit it but he quite enjoyed these things. Hope had always wanted to help with certain school and church events and Remus was proud to have a mum who was so loved in the community, even if she was scary when she got into her boss mode.
By the time Remus had finished their drinks and properly woke up, there was already a crowd of people going around each stall, Remus had seen Romulus surrounded by little kids. He called them over when he saw them.
"Remus! Lily! You two are captains get over here!"
"Oh bloody hell," Remus said under his breath, noticing the football that he had in his hands.
Sirius felt like his figures were going to fall off. It was January 1st, who set up an outdoor event on January 1st.
They had only just got there and he already wanted to desperately go home, he didn't dream his parents irrelevant and leave his whole family behind at the age of 22 just to play in the freezing cold, but James had insisted that this would be worth it and he seemed so excited for every gig Sirius could never say no.
It was during their first set that Sirius had seen her.
She had been all that James had talked about since their gig at the pub on Christmas eve, he could recite her description by memory.
Dark red hair that reached her chest.
Emerald green eyes.
Plus size
A smile that glows.
Exactly a head smaller than James.
Two piercings in her ear lobe and one in her cartilage.
A tattoo of a small tattoo of a wolf behind her ear.
And she was wearing white Doc Martens.
Yep, that was her. It had to be, she ticked every box (apart from the tattoo as she was too far away for Sirius to get a proper look. But she looked like a girl that would have one.)
Sirius' heart leaped. James was going to be so excited, all he could talk about throughout Christmas was how much he regretted not asking for her Instagram. He had to tell him.
He was going to tell him.
He had it all planned. He was going to give James that smile that only James got, the one that said "I know something you don't know," James always got so excited at good news.
Then he was going to ask James once more how Lily Evans looked, and James would go on a ramble, giving out as much information about this girl that he could remember. Then he would spin James around and point her out and knowing James he would probably scream. Sirius couldn't wait, he was a hopeless romantic after all.
As they went through each song he couldn't take his eyes off her, he had to make sure that he knew where she was when he told James. And he was going to tell him, he was certain of it.
That is, he was certain of it until he saw him.
Now that's a sight that he will never be able to get out of his head.
Short blond curly hair.
Tall.
Thin, yet still had a bit of muscle.
Crooked nose.
Amber eyes.
And a large scar going across his face, from his right eye down through his nose and ending just before his lips.
God his lips!
As they played on Sirius began to notice more and more about this mystery boy. He seemed to be friendly with Lily, they were playing football with a group of kids and it was obvious that he was pretending to not be good for their sake. There was another boy with them who had similar features. Must be a brother, Sirius thought.
The boy was dressed in a Queen t-shirt, a white one with a long-sleeved black shirt underneath, and his jeans were ripped. He wore eyeliner, his nails were painted black and he had multiple rings on his figures.
Sirius had never been more turned on until he saw him take a five-minute break to smoke a cigarette.
Sirius could never date a smoker. James was enough trouble, Sirius had lost count on how many times he had told him that he ought to quit but he never listens. Smoking kills everyone knows this so why did some people think that by some miracle they could be the exception.
Sirius was about to give it all up then and there, make his eyes go back to following Lily around, or maybe even have his brain focus on what he was actually supposed to be going. But once the boy had put out his cigarette and rejoined the group of kids one of them had fallen over and hurt their knee. The boy crouched down to their level and talked to the boy until he laughed while Lily got a wet paper towel and a plaster.
Damit, Sirius thought. Why do guys with kids always have to be so damn attractive?
For the rest of their set, the only thing Sirius could see was him.
He had forgotten all about Lily Evans until they had finished. When they had gotten off the stage James had been bouncing up and down. His smile was the widest he had ever seen it.
"It's her," he said quickly.
"Whos her?" Frank asked, looking at the crowd confused.
"Her, her. That girl I met a the pub last week. She's here."
"Go talk to her then." And while you're at it get me her mate's number?
James began to pale, "I can't just go up and talk to her," he told them shaking his head. "What if she hates me?"
Frank raised an eyebrow, "Why would she hate you, I thought you hit it off?"
"We did!"
"So go talk to her!"
James looked at Lily and then back at Sirius and Frank. He had now started picking at his figure nails, slowly picking one off and throwing it onto the ground.
"What do I say?" He asked, desperately.
Frank seemed very confident. "Mate, you've just played for the entire day she surly noticed that it was you at one point. She's probably begging for you to go and talk to her."
James looked confused, "Then why hasn't she come up to me?" His eyes suddenly widened. "What if she really isn't interested? I mean I know I didn't ask for her Snapchat or anything but she didn't ask for mine either!" he said in one breath. Sirius was sure he may faint if he thought anymore.
Both James and Sirius looked at Frank who rolled his eyes. "She's the girl. You're supposed to be the one to ask her out and make the first move. Most girls are scared to ask out guys cause guys suck." He said it as if it was the most obvious thing ever. "Just take a deep breath, channel your confidence, and swipe her off her feet. You've got this."
James took a breath and nodded before making his way towards Lily who was having a conversation with a much taller boy. He looked a bit like Sirius' mystery boy but older, taller, and with darker hair and no scar. Maybe another brother.
Sirius and Frank both watched James approached Lily in silence. They watched him ask to talk to her, Sirius didn't miss the smile that appeared across her face. Unfortunately said smile began to slowly disappear once James began talking and before anyone could realize that this was indeed a bad idea, Lily had slapped James across the face and had begun to walk in the other direction.
James all but stomped back towards Sirius and Frank, his glasses had fallen to the tip of his nose and his face had gone nearly bright red, though Sirius couldn't tell if it was from anger or embarrassment.
He mumbled a "Let's go" and grabbed all of his belongings before making his way towards the van. All Sirius and Frank could do was stare at each other in disbelief.
"This is why we don't leave him alone unsupervised," Sirius mumbled.

To The Top || A Marauders Band AU
Chapter One: The Night We Met
Read here on A03
Okay so before we begin please can you just state your name, age, and role?
Um, my name is Peter Pettigrew, I'm 78 years old and I was the lead singer of the Marauders.
Great, so Mr. Pettigrew where would you like to start?
Well, I guess we should start from the beginning, shouldn't we?
And when is that?
Whens the beginning? Well, that would be Christmas Eve 2017, that's the night when James met Lily.
//
"Honestly you could at least act like you want to be here," Petunia complained for the fifth time that night. Lily just rolled her eyes. She didn't want to be there. It was Christmas eve for goodness sake, she wanted to be at home in her pajamas watching Christmas movies with her parents and sister. She wanted to go to church (even though she had never been religious) and admire their set of the nativity before coming home and going to sleep to the sound of her parents trying to be as quiet as they could while dragging their presents down to the Christmas tree.
But instead, here she was, in a crowded pub surrounded by people she didn't know. Sure it'll look good on her Snapchat and maybe as the night goes on someone will do something stupid enough to give her a funny story to tell when she next sees her friends on boxing day (her bets was on the obviously drunk drummer of the band that was currently playing.) But until then she didn't want to be there and she certainly didn't want Petunia making her feel bad for it. Petunia only dragged her along because she has no friends of her own to take with her but despite what every sitcom tells you take it from Lily that a sister is not a "built-in best friend" a sister is just a sister, someone who you share parents with and have to live with until one of you moves out and that's it. At least for the Evans sisters that was it. Lily knew that not everyone hated their sibling and that in fact it wasn't supposed to be like that. She had grown up watching the Lupin brothers get along, they would play sports together, help one enough with their homework and protect each other with their lives. Watching them sometimes made Lily crave a sibling, completely forgetting that she had one of her own.
Maybe it's the age gap, Lily thought.
The band onstage had now started playing I wish it could be Christmas every day and the crowd was eating it up. There didn't seem to be one person in the pub who wasn't singing, lifting their glasses during the chorus, and wrapping their arm around whoever was closest. Lily liked this. From where she was stood at the bar she had a great view of everyone and was able to act like for a moment that she was a part of this moment like she wasn't just watching from the sidelines and was actually having a great time. That was until she had turned to her right and noticed that her sister had completely abandoned her at least.
"So much for sister bonding," she muttered, quickly downing the rest of her drink and squeezing her way through the crowd towards the beer garden.
As expected it was freezing outside, Lily was shivering and could see every breath she took, her hands already felt like they were going purple and her nose was so cold that it now started to hurt. But it was less noisy and easier to breathe outside. And besides, smoking wasn't allowed inside the pub.
After ten minutes, Lily started to regret her decision. she was only halfway through her cigarette, and her fingers felt like they were about to fall off. She was slightly jumping from the hells of her feet and wished dearly that she had wrapped up warmer than just a jumper and her coat.
Her only company was a group of men who were also smoking, they were paying her no mind but she couldn't help the feeling that they were judging her. Maybe they thought that she had been ditched by her friends, or was new in town and didn't yet have any friends. She wasn't sure which she would've preferred, to have shitty friends or no friends at all?
"'Scuse me?" a voice suddenly called out
Lily's head spun towards the source to see a boy, with brown skin, black messy hair, and square glasses making his way hesitantly towards her. "Hate to bother you but could I borrow a light?" he asked.
"Oh, yes, of course," Lily replied a little too quickly before pulling out her lighter and passing it to him. The boy nodded his head and lit his own cigarette.
"Thank you," he said politely and took a few puffs before talking again. "Having a nice night?" he asked.
Lily nodded her head and let out a little laugh, "Actually it's been a bit boring," she answered honestly. "Im here with my sister and she's sorta disappeared on me."
Bad. Bad. These are bad things to say to a stranger. Her mind screamed at her suddenly.
She quickly backtracked. "But I'm sure I'll find her... We have trackers on each other see and our parents are expecting us home," she rambled.
The boy just smiled and nodded along, when she had finished he set his beer down onto the table that was close by and took a seat still making sure that she knew she had his full attention. Lily took a few steps closer to him and put out her cigarette but she didn't sit down.
"Sounds rough," he replied. "I'm here with my mates, we just performed actually. I was the guitarist. I also sung"
Lily's eyes widened as if she was just realizing that she had been talking to an old friend all along, although really she didn't recognize him at all. "Oh yeah, I saw you inside you were great." she slightly lied. "So how long have you guys been together?" she asked, sitting down next to him.
The boy smiled, "Well we went to secondary school together and started playing there, at first it was just for a laugh but we've actually started to get into it and now we're hoping to somehow make a career out of it, and yeah it'll be hard we know that but were willing and surly that has to count for something."
"Well, no famous band today has ever gotten there by giving up have they?"
"Exactly! If we were to give up we would just be asking ourselves what if our entire life and that's not a life I want to live," he said, finishing off his drink and giving her a toothy grin. "I get scared though, believe me, I have no chance of doing this on my own and it worries me sometimes that the guys will back out. Frank doesn't really have the passion y'know? Like he likes it and you can tell but he isn't passionate about it and as for Sirius his family is a pain and hates the whole music business, they're trying to guilt-trip him. Y'know the whole "We didn't come all the way to London for you to become a rockstar" business. It's bullshit. He has a younger brother why don't they put all their eggs in his basket? That's why parents have more than one kid right? For when the first one turns out to be a disappointment you have a few more to fall back on?"
This made Lily laugh, "Well, as a younger sibling I can confirm that theory," she joked.
The boy laughed, "I wouldn't know, my parents didn't need a plan B they struck gold the first time." His words were now beginning to slur. It became quite clear to Lily that he probably wouldn't be saying these things if he wasn't under the influence.
"Well, at least you have a plan for what you want to do. I have no idea and my gap year has now turned into gap years and still no clue where I want to be a year from now. My parents don't care what I am so long as Im not working in McDonald's for the rest of my life."
"How's that going?'
"Terribly, cheers for asking. But at least Im getting money, it could be worse."
The boy nodded, "Could be a lot worse," he agreed. "You could be dead."
It took everything Lily had to stop her from replying with I wish.
They were silent for a while, the only sound that could be heard was the racket coming from inside as the cold how now even become too much for the group of men that were out earlier. The conversation seemed to have come to a close. Lily didn't want it to.
"So where are your friends now?" she asked.
The boy looked behind him, towards the door leading to the bar, and then back at her before simply shrugging. "God knows. Maybe one of them is hooking up with your sister right now."
Lily laughed and lightly punched his arm, "Don't be so rude!" she exclaimed. The boy laughed and nudged her with his shoulder, "Im only giving suggestions. Perhaps we should get searching for them, it is really cold out here and I've got to make sure that they don't get into too much trouble."
Lily didn't really want to leave, but now that he had mentioned it the cold was coming back to being a problem and she couldn't expect him to stay out in it just for her pure entertainment while his friends could be missing for all they knew, so she nodded and stood up.
"I'm Lily, by the way," she smiled and stretched out her hand. "Lily Evans."
The boy curled his lip and took her hand, kissed her knuckle, and shook it. "Pleasure to meet you, Lily Evans. I'm James Potter."

confession time
I never really liked the ship james + teddy? maybe it’s just me. the age gap doesn’t bother me, it’s just the fact they were raised together. They were basically like brothers, so it feels like incest to me. I know they’re not biologically related but still.

Honestly I couldn't agree with this more.
I am Bisexual and came out when i was 15 as soon as i knew for a fact that i was. At this time I had multiple lgbt friends and family members and knew that whoever was important was supportive of lgbt rights and yet it still took me until i was 15 to realise it for myself.
Sirius is not like me. He had a (what we can assume) homophobic family and was living in the 70s where we can assume if anyone was lgbt they probably wouldn't have come out and if they did they wouldve suffered for it and he left hone at 16. I don't think his sexuality was something that Sirius took lightly enough to before the age of 16 be having posters of guys in his room. (As i have seen the argument that if the posters were purly to piss off his parents then giys would've made them more mad. Sirius wanted to make his parents mad not get kicked out/killed)
it's so wild to me that some people think sirius was straight because he had pictures of women in his childhood bedroom... like when i was 15 i wrote 6 pages in my diary about my ideal boyfriend only to later realize that i am a huge dyke

Things you should never insult in front of Sirius Black
His (flawless) hair
Muggle-borns
Quidditch
Remus Lupin
So called 'Blood-traitors' (which he technically is one)
Andromeda Black
The LGBTQ+ community
Dogs
Werewolves (especially a certain chocolate loving one)
Prongslet (Harry James Potter)
His mum (Euphemia Potter)
His brothers (Regulus Black and James Potter)
Minerva Mcgonagall
The love of his life
Lames
Motorcycles
Someone's appearance (besides a certain grease ball)
Marlene McKinnon and Dorcas Meadowes
Lily Potter
R. J. L.
Long story short, if you insult his friends and family, consider yourself pranked

just very quickly i feel like i have to say this about the Sabrina Olivia drama cause nobody has brought this up yet.
way back when Sabrina was dating Bradley Steven Perry (Gabe from good luck charlie) They broke up and Sabrina them wrote and realised the song Smoke and Fire.
Without any confirmation from anyone Sabrina's fans thought that the song meant that Bradley cheated on her with Paris Berelc (Bradley's co star at the time)
So Sabrina's fans sent tons (and by tons i mean tons) of hate towards Paris so much that there were hardly any nice comments on her account. It got so bad that Paris' mum had to respond to the comments telling them that there was no bad bloody between them and that Bradley didn't cheat (Bradley also got a lot of hate btw)
PARIS GOT SO MUCH HATE THAT HER MUM HAD TO GET INVOLVED OVER A SONG THAT HAD NO INDICATION THAT IT WAS ABOUT PARIS AT ALL
so sorry y'all obviously we shouldn't hate on Olivia or Sabrina but i felt like people needed to be reminded of what happened. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. Learn from our mistakes (and maybe if you were one of those fans you owe Paris an apology)

I'm a little bored and it's been a while so here a little sneak peak of Growing Pains Chapter Three
Dear Marlene,
Hi, how are you? How's Hogwarts? I cant believe it's only been a month it feels like ages Mals, I can't believe you haven't written to me yet. Are you okay? Are you already too cool for me?
We've heard from Steph a few times, she said that you're good and in Gryffindor with her (although there's no surprise there.)
Please write back, Mum and dad said to give you space and let you settle in but it's been a month and I miss you.
Love,
Tommy.
Marlene couldn't help but smile as she read the letter, sure it definetly had bad news. Steph had lied to their family about Marlene being in Gryffindor and Tommy now thought that she was ignoring him. But still, knowing that her little brother cared enough to write made her happy.
"You seem happy, letter from home?" Hestia asked as she entered the dorm room.
Marlene hadn't spent a lot of time with her fellow Ravenclaws, in fact it's been a month and she still hadn't really made a friend. The first day caught her off guard completely and she hadn't really got round to it.

The way how I'm so inlove with so many Marlene friendships that I'm having such a hard time deciding which ones to include in my fic
Like she can't be friends with everyone... but there's so much potential
