7 Common Obstacles All New Writers Encounter

Hello! My name is Kevin, and I am your friend ^_^

It's without a doubt that most of you will or already have stumbled upon these problems when you first started your writing journey. Don't worry, you're not alone. We all are going through the same thing. It can be quite the struggle, but overcoming these obstacles is one of the best feelings ever. Obviously, there are many obstacles we face as writers, and some might be unique to other people. So, I will be telling you all some of the more common ones. Here's my list of 7 obstacles that newbie writers might just run into.

#1 Finding Ideas:

Sure, you have plenty of ideas for stories that you want to share with the world! That's why you're a writer after all. But sometimes we think our ideas aren't good enough. Or once you've already started writing about your idea, you realize that there's no way you can make a story out of it. You might enjoy it, but you ask yourself if others will see it the way you do. What I say about this 'problem' is screw it, write it anyway! You'll never know if it's a good story until you've completely finished writing the story. And no need to be always looking for ideas. Most of the best ideas come out of nowhere or from something completely simple. So, don't worry, and write away!

#2 Writer’s Block:

The dreaded writer's block. You might think you're never going to get it, but it catches up to EVERYONE! Yeah, when just started writing your book, ideas are flowing out of your noggin like a waterfall. And then boom! Feels like you just hit your head smack into a brick wall. You try to write the next scene, but it just doesn't feel right to you. You don't know what to write next. You become frustrated and it feels as if your brain just short-circuited. So, you stop writing entirely for the day. You think that it's just a phase and that the ideas will just start flowing back sooner than later. Yes, and no. When you experience writer's block, you don't want to give up and stop writing for the day. In some cases that might be helpful, but the most effective way to defeat writer's block is to keep on writing! Think of it like this; when you have writer's block, you think that all you're writing is junk. Well, to get rid of all that junk, you have to keep writing! Write away all of that junk. That backspace and the delete button will be your friend. And soon enough, you'll be writing gold mines! Trust me, the days I do have writer's block, I would write all the junk out, and I would end up getting over 3 thousand words in and a scene/chapter finished. So, don't give up when you get writer's block. Just keep writing! It is what we do after all.

#3 Haters:

Ah, haters. It's a love and hate relationship. But, in all honesty, we need them. It shows that people are actually watching us, haha. Haters can be a great source of motivation and inspiration, it just depends on how we use it. Though, they can be annoying A LOT. How many times have you heard from a hater, "You write books? That's so lame." Or, "You write books? No one even reads books anymore." (FYI: over a million ebooks on average are sold on a daily basis) Or even, "You're an author? You'll never be the next Stephen King." Who said I wanted to be the next Stephen King? Although, that would be pretty cool. In the end, it depends on how you use the haters. Will you let it bring you down? Or will you use it as fuel to push you further? It is really nice rubbing your success against the hater's faces. But, remember to always be humble and thank your haters for always being there.

#4 Outlining/Storyline:

It is essential to have your outlining figured out and done before you begin writing. Some unique writers don't even need it and can write an amazing story without ever having an outline to begin with. But, this is very rare and difficult to do. So, I would highly advise having an outline of your story. It can be as short or as long as you want. Heck, my outlines are only a couple pages. It's so that you have a foundation or 'map' for your story. The reason why I put this on my list as an obstacle is because it's easy to go off track from your set outline/storyline. Your plan could be to write about something, but instead, you end up writing about something else. You then look at your outline and see that the scene is not on there. I'm here to tell you that it's okay. It's okay to go off your outline a little bit. Your outline is simply there to guide you. If you randomly come up with an amazing idea but it's not on your outline, find a way to fit it in! In the end, your outline is just a guide, a reference. Let your new amazing ideas upgrade your story!

#5 Finding Other Writers:

I have to admit, most of the time we feel lonely. We feel as if we're the only writers in the world (we're definitely not, trust me). But, believe it or not, the writing community is pretty big. There are plenty of writers out there, which means plenty of competition. I know what you're wondering, "But Kev, I've never met any writers in the real world besides myself." Sure you have! You just need to look deeper and ask. Let them know that you're a writer too! Don't be afraid. I too thought that I was alone, but there's plenty of writers around you. A handful of my friends in school want to write books as well. Even my former English teacher (now a librarian) writes books! When we talked about it, it only brought our relationship much closer. Don't be afraid to share and talk about your passion. You'll meet plenty of writers just like yourself in the real world. And when you do, you won't feel alone anymore, and it will make writing (and life) much more fun and exciting!

#6 Editing:

Ugh, editing. At first, it might seem fun. Finding mistakes in your writing and making your story better. But, your story isn't going to be looking good after just a coupe self-edits. You have to edit your story at least a hundred times! Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit. The point is, if you want your book to look good, you have to go back and edit it over and over again (then send your baby to a professional editor just to have them rip it to shreds even more). Doing this process over and over again will make you sick of looking at your book. That's when you know it's almost ready. It's a tough and boring process, but it's one of the most important things you need to do for your book.

#7 Finding/Managing Time to Write:

Some people say you have to write every single day to get better at writing. Some say you have to write every single moment of your life! I say, if it's a priority, you'll find a way to incorporate writing into your everyday life. You don't have to slave away on your computer, always typing word after word. Writing is supposed to be fun and not a chore. After all, that's why we're all doing this; because we love it! We love to write! We're writers! You don't have to force yourself to be writing all the time. At the same time, don't start writing then stop for a few weeks. Write when YOU want to. And when you do write, make it count and worthwhile. It's always good to be writing a lot and on a regular basis. It really does make you a better writer and will sharpen your writing skills. Like I said; if writing truly is your passion and you truly love it, you'll make it a priority and will find time for it.

That's my list of 7 common obstacles all new writers encounter. Obviously, there are plenty more challenges we writers face and soon will face. Too much to write about. I’m back! And better than ever!

My name is Kevin, and I am your friend ^_^ I’m so glad to be back! So many life changes have happened in the past few months. I’ll get back to that in a minute.But first, I would like to start off and say welcome back, everyone! In my last post, I said that I would only be gone for about a week, which then turned into many months. I’m truly sorry about that. Like I said, I went through so many life changes in the past several months. I couldn’t any longer handle the abuse I got from my stepdad so I made a decision to move in with my uncle. I got two different jobs, and I’m becoming more of an adult. Even though, I’m only 17 and still in high school. Though, it feels great being independent and responsible. After 13 years of constant abuse, I’m so happy to have left. I feel like I have more control over my life now. Though, I know that I still have plenty of work to do and I’m so excited to get back at it.

Great news; I have three horror short-stories that are just about ready for publication! I know right! Three horror books that everyone will be able to read very soon! I’m sorry, but, Seeds of the Stars is going to have to wait. Don’t worry, the three-part sci-fi novels will still get out there one day, and I will still be writing them so be ready for that in the future.

I’m so excited to be back, and I’m so excited to announce that my three horror short-stories will be out there very soon! Blog #15: Aspiring Writers and What All Successful Writers do to Become Successful

My name is Kevin and I am your friend ^_^ Welcome back everyone to another blog! Did you miss me? Cause I sure as hell missed all of you! Now let’s get on with today’s blog. In today’s blog I’ll be talking a little bit about success in writing and successful writers. Now I won’t be talking about how to be a successful writer, that will be for a different time. I’ll be talking about how simply looking at what some of the successful writers do and implementing it to your routine can get you a long way ahead of the game and help you become a successful writer yourself. You have to ask yourself what is your reason for writing. Are you writing just for fun or as a hobby? Or are you writing to become a full-time and successful writer? If so, things get more complicated. I too write to become a full-time writer. I want to write best sellers and make writing my only job. Of course, if you want to be successful with writing you can’t just be really good at writing. I’ll get to that in a little bit. But ask yourself why do you write. If it’s to be a professional/full-time writer, then good keep reading. If not, keep reading anyways and you might learn something. There’s never a limit to what you can learn. Now let’s see, what do all successful writers do. One is that they are ALWAYS WRITING! If you want writing to be your full-time job then you have to treat it like so. Write for as much as you can everyday, hours upon hours. The most successful writers are always writing no matter what. It’s normal to have writing blocks, but do you know what successful writers do about that? They write anyways! Because it is their job and they treat it like one. So the first step you can say to become a successful writer is to write all of the time! Now I’m not telling you to be a complete slave to writing, you also have to have some ‘you’ time. But if that’s what you want to do by all means go for it! I try to write for at least 3-4 hours every single day and sometimes even more. Sure you’ll have those bad days but you just got to push through them, that’s the only way. You can’t just not do anything and expect your creativity to come back overnight. No, you’ve got to dig deep for it, that’s what the best writers do. So write A LOT everyday. Another thing, and this one is really important even though a lot of aspiring writers skip this part or start off too late, and that is developing a successful author platform, have a big following, and marketing your brand and your book. Writers that go through the traditional publishing route think that they don’t have to do this part. Well, it’s time to wake up and get busy because both traditional and self-publish authors have to do this. Don’t just expect that if you write a book that it will magically start selling. You can write the most freaking greatest book of all time, but if no one knows about your book or YOU then it’s not going to sell. That’s why you have to develop a large author platform. I will be doing a blog (maybe even a video) on how to do that in the future. The most successful authors are at least somewhat good with business marketing as well. You have to know how to use social media, websites, blogs, mailing lists, etc. to endorse your book but most importantly YOU, your personal brand. The most successful writers got this down. Their platform is so vast that once they publish a new book, it will start selling. I’ll go more into this in a future blog. If you look at Mark Dawson, he went from 1,000 subscribers in his mailing list to over 20,000 in less than a year! He now makes $450,000 a year as a full-time writer! He knows what he’s doing. He’s definitely using the internet and social media to his advantage and now he has build a successful author platform that will most likely keep on growing. The cool part is that you can do this too! But don’t think that your author platform will develop overnight. It will take a lot of patience, consistency, and trial & error. Which leads me to my final point which is consistency and not giving up. Every successful writer has this trait. No matter how much they fail or how deep they go, they always ask themselves, “Is this worth it?” and the answer is always YES it is worth it. Look at J.K. Rowling for example, the author of one of the most greatest and most iconic book series of all time; the Harry Potter series. Her first book which sold an estimated 120 million copies world-wide was rejected 12 times before being published. She went from unemployed to multi-millionaire in five years! This is the result of staying consistent and not giving up. Not everyone will become as successful as JK Rowling (by all means if that’s what you aim for then don’t let anyone or anything hold you back) but you can still make writing a long lasting career if you follow the right steps and make the best strategies. My name is Kevin and I am your friend ^_^ Good morning/afternoon/evening/night everyone!!! I hope y’all are doing just fine and living your dreams everyday! As I’m writing this blog, I’m listening to some songs by Ne-Yo so forgive me if I get a bit too emotional or off topic lol. Not much happened to me recently or today. All I did today was help out my step-dad fix a car, posted a sneak peak to chapter 9 of my upcoming book so be sure to check that out *wink*, and now I’m writing this blog. After this blog I’ll most likely go to the gym, finish my chores, then get straight to writing the crazy stories that pops into my head! For today’s topic we can talk a little bit about fear. Not necessarily about me having fears but fears in general, if that makes any sense. Fear to me is just an obstacle that everyone has to overcome. I guess in this world that we’ve created fear is natural. If there’s anything that’s holding anyone back from achieving their goals and dreams it’s fear. Once you’ve overcome that, you can move mountains! Fear, ego, and ignorance are the things that is holding back humanity from evolving. Once we let go of all of these things and replace them with positivity, happiness, light, and love, then we can literally have heaven on earth! We will achieve wonders! Sometimes the thing you fear the most doing is what you are meant to do and be good at. This is the kind of message I want to represent and I will do so everyday. I hope you all will too. Starseeds in Reno and Sparks Area

Namaste ^_^ This is kind of off topic with my blogs because I’m only writing this message for a certain group of people; Starseeds. I’m a Starseed that lives here in Reno/Sparks area and I’m just wondering if there are any Starseeds near by as well. I know that there are many of us out there, approximately one million, but I feel like I’m the only Starseed here in the Reno/Sparks area. I only have one year left before I turn 18 and can finally do my own things. So I send this message to any awakened Starseeds in the Reno/Sparks are. You don’t have to feel alone anymore. Message me back if you are an awakened Starseed in the Reno/Sparks area. I would love to meet you! Individually, we are powerful. But together, we can change the world. My name is Kevin and I am your friend ^_^ Wassup my lovely people! I hope you all are living everyday how you want to live it! If not, make that change in your life and live out your dreams everyday! Today was one of those days when you just feel super lazy. My body felt like it was in hibernation mode and just needed to rest. Today I didn’t feel like doing anything and I just lied on the floor throughout the day while listening to music and looking at pretty drawings. It’s okay to have days like this. When you experience this kind of laziness out of the blue, it means that your body just needs to recharge. Do your body a favor and take a break for the day, let your body recharge. Eat some fruits and drink plenty of water. Indulge yourself in the sun and/or nature. Maybe even just stay in your room and read a book while listening to music. Take a long euphoric nap! Do whatever it takes to let your body rest and recharge. Trust me, your body will thank you in the future. Today was one of those days, luckily today I was able to relax. Now I’m ready to start the day tomorrow and tackle everything on my to-do-list! There’s only one more week left of summer vacation. Though, I make sure to always have a positive mind (whatever you put out comes back in) and I’m excited for what’s to come. Hopefully I’ll start a new routine to keep myself on track with my goals. No matter what happens I always see it as a learning experience for growth. I’m super excited for what’s to come and I hope all of you will join me on this journey! More awesome content coming soon! So I notice a lot of starseeds or maybe people who just really like aliens will say a lot of things like “earth sucks” or say negative things about being human. I know earth can be ugly sometimes but it is also very beautiful here. I think we are here on a mission. Some of us are here to help earth and humans through rough times. So why are you begging the aliens to take you away? Where are the starseeds saying “I love earth” ?? I know you are missing home but I think this place needs our love right now…

Dear fellow brother and sister starseeds currently inhabiting planet Earth, By this time, you know who you are. Or you at least know in your heart and soul that your light being originated from a star system that is not the one you currently inhabit. Whether you know yourself to be Pleiadian, Andromedan, Sirian, or the like, we call on you now to ascend into your higher self starseed being. It is time to shed the human ego and transcend all that keeps you imprisoned in 3D bondage. As we told you before, YOU are the ones you have been waiting for. And now is the time for you all to rise and shine your light onto the truth of the power and control you have subjected yourselves to for so very long now. You are there to free humanity from its own debt slavery, human trafficking, poverty, war, environmental destruction, and planet resource stripping. Only starseeds of the proper vibration can begin using this web. If you cannot access it, then you need to work on your personal vibration. I am now sending out a visionary symbol that will give you access to this communication web. Close your eyes now and look to your mind’s eye to see it. This is what you must envision in order to gain secure access to the web. It is already encoded within you, so, if you are meant to see it, you will, and it will give you complete access to the web once you envision it if you are in correct, heart-centered vibration when you do so. Many of you starseeds are clustered close together within various regions throughout your planet, and you are all encoded with your personal missions. Those you are living close to in proximity are all assigned to the same mission or missions that are linked to one another. Remember, you each hold a key piece to the puzzle, and each of you is needed at this time to contribute your piece. Do not hold back your energy from this project or your mission. The big picture cannot be complete without you. Trust us when we tell you that you KNOW in your HEART what your mission is. Drop all fears and grievances now for the sake of your planet and all of the people you love so dearly. Become heart-centered, joyful and loving. You are needed. Immediately. One people, one planet, one love. Please relax and focus your intentions and connect to the web of unity consciousness. NOW is the time. All our love and protection to you.
