Manifesto of the Vibrant Dark
To begin the Introduction to Humanities is something more than I ever thought it was. This course was something that helped me to dig deeper into the way I view things. Not just by viewing certain paintings or watching certain videos but it is a life lesson and has more value. I would like to apply what I learned and explain this in more depth. Observation is very critical when it comes to life and as well something that I have learned in this course. Introduction to Humanities is a huge field that shows concerns about what it's like to be a human being. For example, their cultural values and expressions. Under these certain human beliefs, there are different branches we can focus on like philosophy, history, literature, religion, art, music, and many more things. It is all about how human beings are in the way they are shaped, based on certain situations, and also has certain themes and ideas for example main ones being love and happiness.
To begin, I would like to start with one of the art pieces that I as my representative work on. This art piece was called the Nighthawks and was done in the year 1942. When analyzing this art piece. Besides the fact that it was beautiful, it had way more to offer and such a massive message behind it. I can also relate because my family is from Brooklyn, NY where this picture was done in New York. Already I have a connection there. Edward Harper was the creator of this oil canvas artwork and he put great detail in it as well as we can correlate to 1942 being a hard time for people living in New York. I stated that “World War II happened during this time, and 1941 was the year when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The knowledge of history goes hand in hand with Hopper's art piece. Surviving and living as an individual was hard; you felt alone. A lot was going on in the Big Apple with rapid modernization in technology and culture. Nighthawks oil canvas was a fantastic art piece, and as an individual who lived in New York City during the 1940s, you could relate to the characters and figures.” So to begin with this theme of reviewing the painting it was a lonely dark vibe but as well with being the big city.
Moving on to the Abstract Image the “Interrogation” by Ali Banisdr. It is a painting that is viewed and has a lot going on. You can see colors and see a lot of action done by individuals. With looking into more detail these images in the way at first glance it looks all crazy. I stated “The painting's rough and jagged lines make me feel the furthest from peaceful, but instead, they help me to sympathize with Ali Banisadr for the skillful manner in which he captured this conflict and made me feel as though I was there myself. The conflict shown in this painting is all about how a child, Ali Banisadr, lived through the Iran-Iraq War.” Yet again after analyzing another piece that was negative and has a theme of hard time.
Another post on my blog the public art that I chose was called Buff Monster. I viewed this or on the Walls, located in Wynwood, Miami. This is a place I have been to many times before, but I always love to go and see the walls and see what has been updated. Looking at these images, they are very bright, colorful, and fun, which is a little bit different from my theme which is a more lonely and dark side. At the same time, it can correlate to the paintings that I have chosen which do have some color or a more crazy vibe, just like the Buff monster.
Again, another post on my blog was about poetic license. I chose the poem “Later” by Raymond Luczak. This poem ties perfectly together with my main theme, which is still about being in a dark place. “This poem is about Richard, Chenault who passed away at age 38. It is a tribute to Richard and how strong the relationship was between two individuals. It is about how they communicated through sign language and cherished many good memories together after reminiscing on the old times. It is tough to translate memories to deaf people once they are gone” stated by me. This poem is something that was very nice and I chose it because it shows how there is a dark side, but at the end, there is always some color and something more powerful and more powerful message that is going to be viewed at the end of the day.
In all my themes of my blog post do have a dark and vibrant side. Most of my posts are about dark things, like people going through struggles or the passing of a loved one. On the other hand, there are paintings of vibrant colors and figures. I would like to say my blog has a balance. It is divided into two different places. It's like being on two different sides of the spectrum, but in all, there are good vibes. One good example of how my blog is very divided is. There is a painting with vibrant colors, but the meaning behind that painting is very dark. There is always light but at the same time, something always happens.

Ekphrasis
The Red Chapel of Hatshepsut
Red to build and be something more. It is hard to understand the beginning of this bored.
You start to think and ponder. Instead of just doing the wonder.
You think more deeply and you will see.
You will see that the Red Chapel of Hatshepsut is more to be.
If you believe in something and have a place to see.
See a place that makes you whole.
The Red Chapel is something to relate to and be told.
If you believe, you should believe in him too.
Believe in him that he is God who flew.
Deeper Analysis:
The Amun-Ra temple's sanctuary housed the unusual Red Chapel of Hatshepsut, made of red quartzite bark. Short ramps on either side led to the two-roomed chapel, built on a gray diorite platform and comprised a vestibule and a sanctuary. The chapel's external sides are adorned with exquisite relief carvings depicting various events, including the unveiling of Hatshepsut's obelisks in the Wadjet Hall and the processions held during the Opet and Beautiful Feast of the Valley celebrations. The low base is decorated with a succession of kneeling female figures and Nile gods and a decorative kheker frieze. The chapel is 15 meters long, 6.5 meters broad, and 7.2 meters high. Within the seventeenth year of her reign, Hatshepsut started building the "red chapel." The chapel was positioned inside the Ma'at Palace, the new sanctuary the queen had built for the temple. The palace underwent renovations to make room for the chapel. The "red chapel" served as a bark chapel, a space inside the temple where Amun-Ra's sacred bark, a transportable "boat," was placed to rest. After his aunt passed away, Thutmose III finished the chapel's incomplete décor. He ultimately made the decision, nevertheless, to demolish the shrine and erect his own red granite bark chapel in its stead. A remarkable and intriguing example of ancient Egyptian architecture and art is the Red Chapel of Hatshepsut. A tremendous and noteworthy example of ancient Egyptian architecture and art is the Red Chapel of Hatshepsut. It is evidence of the ancient Egyptians' talent and imagination that their stunning and elaborate works of art survived the test of time.
In all, I just chose this piece at random. It was something that I can just relate to and bring into my more religious side. I believe that everyone has something they believe. I have always been taught to believe and love the lord. This was fun and an ekphrasis is something I have never done before.

Pipilotti Rist
youtube
Rist has a unique creative vocabulary that draws inspiration from popular culture, technology, and feminist video art history in all of her works, from her early music-video-style pieces to her later complete projection setups. One of Rist's first large-scale setups, Ever Is Over All, gives her rich visual vocabulary and overall dimension. Rist frequently blends enlarged photographs of nature and daily objects with imagery powerful of female sexuality to create unique landscapes that combine fantasy and reality. The piece highlights the painterly features of standard-definition video, where the pixels or "color noise" that make up the image are transparent and were shot in a single take using consumer-grade video cameras.
Here, Rist turns a destructive desire into a therapeutic, hopeful act. The work includes two overlapping video projections with a blurry musical backdrop. A woman confidently walks down a city sidewalk on the left. She is holding a tall flower that is also visible in the image to the right, which shows a field filled with enormous tropical flowers. The different pace of both videos creates a calming atmosphere often broken by an unexplained violent outburst in which the protagonist swings a flower violently at a parked car window, causing it to shatter spectacularly. This poetic use of magical realism makes the flower a weapon strong enough to shatter glass. As this is all going on, a female police officer passes bay and salutes her for her actions.
In looking at and watching this video many times, there is a story one can make up in their head. There is so much going on, and so much can be inferred. There is a point in being a female and having strong feelings towards a certain situation. There can be many different situations as to why one will smash a car window. It makes you think about the possible outcomes of why a female will get to that point of violence as well as the female wants to portray the emotional side of this video. Initially, it was weird to watch, but then, as I researched, I understood more of the video and how Beyonce reenacted this window-hitting in 2016. This piece challenges or expands more on watching TV; a more profound meaning must be dug up and analyzed.

Tragedy Scripted and Staged
The part of Shakespeare Hamlet I chose was Act 4 Scene 3. In this part of the play, my interpretation is in agreement with what is going on. In this scene, it is discussed about the death of an insult and how Hamlet uses witty diction. After learning of Polonius's passing, Claudius tells them of his intention to send Hamlet to England. Hamlet is brought in under observation by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. When Claudius questions Hamlet regarding the whereabouts of Polonius's body, Hamlet responds with a witty remark rather than providing any specific details. Hamlet is told by Claudius that he intends to send him to England for his protection. I feel like actually watching the scene has always helped me to understand the setting and tone of the characters. In the reading, I did understand what was going on but there is more emphasis when you can watch and see individual body language and hear the tone. This connects with how the characters are brought to life by hearing and analyzing their tone, body language, and physical attire as well. The stage is used to bring together the setting and feelings that are evoked by the individuals who are performing in the play. From this scene, the interpretation that I received from Hamlet is that he is slick. The way he used his diction in the readings and the way he carried himself he looked like he was trying to keep the death a secret. He looked very suspicious until he decided to just confess. I chose this scene completely random, but it was very interesting to watch and analyze because it showed the witty and insane side of Hamlet.

Anatomy of a Scene
Movies: Moonlight & Being John Malkeovich
Identity-related themes continue to capture the interest of dramatic films. Still, they are rarely handled with the same level of clarity and tragic beauty as in Barry Jenkins' brilliant "Moonlight," one of the most important American movies in 2016. The film "Moonlight" is remarkably balanced between being lyrical and significantly rooted in its character work. It's one of the few movies that manages to maintain total character focus while seeming as though it's addressing universal issues of identity, sexuality, loved ones, and, ultimately, masculinity. It's never informative or moralizing, though. Deep, complicated issues are mostly expressed in the characters in this film. Jenkins' film radiates confidence in every angle, as far as critics are concerned. It's one of those rare films that just doesn't make a mistake in any aspect of the story, from the performance to the shot selection to the music to the realistic environment, and it ends in a scene that is one of the best single scenes in years, free of CGI or twists.
The film was paced by being put in three different categories of life. It was based on the character Chiron and what he went through as a kid, teen, and then to adulthood. The scenes of this movie contributed to the dramatic effect because of the darkness in the environment and the close-ups as well. The big detail of having good actors to the smallest detail of camera lighting gives the overall vibe to this dramatic film.
The strange comedy "Being John Malkovich" has become an instant classic. In the film, a struggling street puppeteer named Craig Schwartz finds a job as a filing clerk. He finds a portal inside the mind of well-known actor John Malkovich one day. He goes on the ultimate hallucination for fifteen minutes, turning into John Malkovich. The themes of betrayal, manipulation, and compulsive love are all explored in the film.
The scene in the movie that seemed particularly effective is the main part of when he goes through the portal which leads to the inside of John’s brain. The way the shot was taken was based on zooming in and giving the portal-like simulation as you watch the film. The setting environment most importantly the lighting will change from science to scene deepening what was going on. For example, in the portal part, it would get a little darker and give a “loppy” edited effect. This film is to be put out for entertainment purposes and is a good comedy that gives the audience a good laugh.

The first image was of a beach on my first trip to Puerto Rico. I am a person who loves going to the beach whenever I can. That is why I love living in Florida. Florida is a sunny state. There are more beautiful beaches outside of Florida. This trip was my first time to Puerto Rico and my graduation gift. I had just recently graduated from High School, and my father decided to take me on a trip. He took me to the place I love most: a beach with clear water. This is a beautiful picture taken in a place called Isla Verde. It was a fantastic trip that I loved to capture with this photo.
Coconut
The second image is yet again on my second trip to Puerto Rico. I loved their culture and environment so much that I had to return for a second time. This time I went with my boyfriend's family. We would go to a different beach daily to enjoy the sun and water. We would eat good food and enjoy time with family and friends. This is one of my favorite photos that I have captured. It has such good quality and focus. As well as the saturation of the photo, the sand looks nice and warm, with a cute little coconut trail leaking you into the beach.
Mid Sun
As I continue to show the images I have captured, I have chosen to show different beaches on Puerto Rico trips. The third image is a picture of the beach at this time named Luquillo. It is a beach strip and, in the front, has many different places to eat and shop. People love to first go and eat, look around, and listen to music. One of my favorite memories on this beach is when my dad and I were having fun and dancing in the middle of one of the restaurants.
Sailboat
The fourth picture is now located in Hollywood, Florida. This place has a condo unit that is owned by my older cousin. She always invites me and my family to go over to the other side of the coast to enjoy the hot weather in Broward County. We like to gather and eat, play games, and listen to music.

These images all come together to the theme of how happy places unite people. I love going to places where there can be peace. These photos show the beauty of nature. The nature that is being offered on the beaches. From the grands of sand to the warm waters. There are also unique animals as well. I love to see the starfish, little fish, and sand dollars. The way these beautiful places are filled with nature can bring people together. For this reason, I love the beach and can be there all day with the people I love.

Your Musical Theme
Moon Dreams by Miles Davis (jazz) https://youtu.be/iDjeXUxbvGI
Man on the Moon by R.E.M. (rock) https://youtu.be/dLxpNiF0YKs
Dark Side of the Moon by Lil Wayne featuring Nicki Minaj (hip hop/ rap) https://youtu.be/H24ealMBL84
Moon by Kayne (hip hop/ rap) https://youtu.be/fMjasXiIhiQ
When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again by Elvis Presley (rock) https://youtu.be/O3XcN_6Y2ug
Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine on You by Toby Keith (country) https://youtu.be/1vkPB0ks3ng
The theme I chose in my playlist correlates with the word moon. I am unfamiliar with some of the songs I have chosen, but I heard of them at some point. The way that this playlist comes together is the fact that the title of the song has the word “moon” at some point. I do not have a specific reason as to why I wanted to make my theme about connecting with the moon, but I am a person who loves to observe. This can relate to my observation skills of just looking around and noticing a beautiful moon in the night sky.
Now, to move into detail about the songs, the first song that is up is Moon Dreams by Miles Davis. This song is beautiful to listen to since there are no lyrics. You can listen to all instruments, mainly trumpet consonance and dissonance. It has more of a slow tempo, and the melody is unique with the changes throughout the song. This song relates to the theme because of the song's vibes telling a story. You can imagine and feel a correlation between the moon and dreams. This song makes a piece’s style contribute to its message and emotional content by making the audience feel at peace.
On to songs two and five, Man on the Moon by R.E.M. and When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again by Elvis Presley. I have these songs together because they are both in the rock genre. The piece by R.E.M. has a more slow and chill melody verse Elvis as he is quick and upbeat. These songs related to the theme because of the storyline behind how an individual feels about when someone will do a specific action—in this case, being the blue moon changing color and believing they put a man on the moon. These songs are both structured with a catchy tempo and repetitions of hooks in their songs as well. The pieces both communicate emotion through the use of diction.
Moving on to the genre, hip hop/ rap song number Dark Side of the Moon and Moon. The song by Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj is an excellent message about patience and love. They bring in emotions through their lyrics and connect to a sad part of life with a loved one. The tempo of this song is slow and has a peaceful melody. This ties to the theme of the moon because it is connected to a motion of sadness and darkness. Now, for the song by Kayne West, his tempo is slow and has many different melodies. The song is structured using unity because you can hear the harmony and repetition of the notes played throughout the song.
In conclusion, the last song by Toby Keith. This song is in the country genre. It is at more of a slow tempo as well and ties to the theme of the moon as well. This song gives you a calm emotion that makes you question yourself. In the song, Toby says does the blue moon ever shine on you meaning that he uses these words to show that he is heartbroken. He narrates a story with beautiful harmonies and lyrics that have the outcome of an individual reminiscing about their lost love.

Plotting
It was late October, and every kid at school was talking about the Haunted Hike. It was discussed all week, and everyone was waiting till the end of the week when we could all hang out. All the kids at school would get their parents to drop them off at the most famous haunted house on Friday. Being my middle school self, I was nervous because I never was a big fan of being scared on Halloween.
I put on my trendiest shirt and pants. Also, of course, my favorite shoes at the time were made by Nike called Huaraches. I was with my group of friends as we entered the Haunted Hike. First, we strolled and saw some games in the game room. Then, we went on to purchase the tickets to join this hike.
I was already scared as we walked down because scary clowns and monsters were carrying chainsaws around the park. I was already freaking out; it was the entertainment for my entire friend group. I could not take it anymore and had a complete breakdown; suddenly, I was so scared that I started to run from one of the scary clowns with a chainsaw in their hands. As I ran at full speed, people watched me and laughed. Yet again, entertaining more random people, I didn't even know. I ran so fast that I did not notice and ran straight into a pothole. I was running into this pothole, causing my foot to get stuck. That did not stop me from running away from a scary clown chasing me. This caused my shoes to be left behind in the pothole as I continued to run away with only one shoe on.
As I noticed my whole shoe was gone, I still had a scary clown chasing me, so I ran into the women's restroom. That did not stop the clown from chasing me with his chainsaw; he followed me. I was comforted by the help of my friends as I was terrified and out of breath from running. I heard a loud bang outside and came to find out it was the clown trying to give the shoe back to me. My best friend tried to retrieve it for me, but the clown refused. He wanted the owner of the shoe to get it back. I proceeded to stay stuck in the bathroom and was scared and traumatized by haunted houses ever since.

Poetic License:
Later
BY RAYMOND LUCZAK
for Richard Chenault 1957 – 1995
Your voice translated me,
a lucid memory.
You videotaped my hands, words.
Now that’s all gone to the birds.
What led you to sign, to grasp?
Your fluency made me gasp.
You turned deaf to others sneering.
Your ears were so used to hearing.
Translate me one more time.
I loved how we could rhyme.
Death’s a cruel interpreter:
Nothing translates for later.
This poem by Raymond Luczak was also published in a poem book which was named “Mute” in 2010. Raymond Luczak was mainly known for his books, films, and plays. He grew up in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan's small mining community of Ironwood. He was the seventh child in a family of nine, and at eight months, double pneumonia caused him to lose a significant amount of his hearing.
After finishing high school, Luczak enrolled at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., receiving a B.A. in English and graduating with honors. He became active in the deaf community, learned American Sign Language (ASL), and won multiple scholarships for his writing, including the Ritz-Paris Hemingway Scholarship. He participated in several writing workshops at different local universities, which finally led to his acceptance into George Washington University's Jenny McKean Moore Fiction Workshop.
Now, to move on and translate this poem into everyday speech, it is how his words are written memory. This poem is about Richard, Chenault who passed away at age 38. It is a tribute to Richard and how strong the relationship was between two individuals. It is about how they communicated through sign language and cherished many good memories together after reminiscing on the old times. It is tough to translate memories to deaf people once they are gone. You can talk to them when someone passes and hope they listen in spirit. It is a little different, especially if someone is deaf, which Raymond shows.
What makes this poem aesthetic is the diction used to connect with the feelings of a situation. From the “Terms to Remember” list, this poem does not have metaphors because there are few comparisons. It is more of just telling a story and describing it. Symbols that are highlighted in the poem are the connection to “now that’s all gone to the birds.” This makes a symbol and creates an image of birds as well. This poem does involve consonance, the word being “you,” the reason being that this poem was written for someone. He keeps describing how his friend would act and do things in doing so, using the repetition of the word to create emphasis. Raymond is the poem's narrator, talking about his friend who passed. This poem has such a deep meaning and shows how a death of a loved one is hard.

Architectural Interiors
My choice of domestic architecture will be the house I live in. The space through my home is a different feeling. The feeling is honestly based on one's own opinion on how they view the dwelling. The area is 2,044 square feet, and the way it is divided is into three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The dining, office, and living rooms also come with that.
The effect achieved by breaking down the space is a home feeling. The description I stated earlier does fit the characteristics of a domestic space. This space feels like a domestic space because it is structured and made out to be a single-family home. It is my mother's house that I still currently live in.
For me, it is homey because I am there with my family. To others, the way the house is designed might not meet their expectations. The homey feelings are different for everyone. Besides that, the house itself is basic and does not have many structures inside the property. So the house is not cramped at all. There is a lot of open space. It has a clean look, with the colors being mainly grey, white, and black. One thing that made this place stick out was when my mother added a blue, grey, white, and black rug in the middle of the living room.
This house was built in 2017, so there is no feeling that it needs to be changed or have any significant updates because the construction year is young. This place is not the most unique because the builders continue to rebuild the same layout. They have made the same house structure all around my area. In all, the space itself in my domestic room is perfect for me. I have enough space to do as I please in the home.
Another space that I inhabit regularly would have to be at my job. If I am outside my domestic area, then I am working. I enjoy settling into my workspace because I am in my little world. I have my own space and setup, making me feel very comfortable and enjoy my time here. Comparing my domestic to my work structure, it is complete opposites. They are so different because the workspace is open to the public, not a home feeling, and is designed differently.
The interior is structured as a working office. You have desks and chairs, and it is a whole different environment. It can be similar to my domestic space because I have an office. The main difference is that this office is much more massive and has more things related to functioning offices.
Moving on, I do prefer my domestic space over my workspace because I am in a home. I like both because I have my room, layout, and environment. They are cozy, but these two spaces have different functions. I showed first a picture of my domestic area. The living room is a vast, open structure where I enjoy spending time.

Public Art: Buff Monster
Buff Monster, born in Hawaii in 1979, started his successful artistic career with graffiti more than 20 years ago. The teenage artist immigrated to Los Angeles, California 1997, quickly establishing himself by plastering the city with tens of thousands of hand-silkscreened posters and stickers. His current projects include paintings, collectible toys, and design work. Different colors of pink, which Buff Monster associates with self-assurance and individualism, are a dominant feature of his particular style.
He cites ice cream, pop art, Japanese culture, graffiti, heavy metal music, and pop. He has been creating murals for over 15 years and is included in Banksy's Oscar-nominated film Exit Through the Gift Shop. His highly detailed works of art have been displayed in galleries worldwide; the Bristol City Museum has one in its permanent collection. Some of the most well-known companies he has worked with include Disney, Converse, Hello Kitty, Samsung, Nike, and Coca-Cola. He continues to manufacture a range of limited-edition souvenirs under the brand name Stay Melty, including vinyl and plastic toys, prints, tees, stickers, and trading cards.
Buff Monster's subject is that he tries to show pop art and graffiti in a fun way. The work of Buff captures and expresses its purpose by just being fun artwork that individuals can relate to. He does these huge wall pieces so people can view them and enjoy the art with the bright colors and funny images he does. When I first saw this art, I had no idea what the meaning was. I was just fascinated and loved the outgoing colors that made me want to take pictures of the art and use the art as a background. I also love ice cream, and in the art piece, I wanted to take photos in front of this artwork because of that.
This art shows how the community of Miami is fun and alive. Miami has a place called Wynwood, where I saw this wall. It indicates that Miami values artwork and likes to show it in a friendly and respectful manner by allowing these artists to show their artwork on the Wynwood walls. I have visited this place many times, and it never gets old. I love seeing the new artwork, like the different colors, images, and patterns. In Wynwood, they do have some full-round structures, but I was more interested in the walls. The walls are just like a vast, flat canvas. The size of the structure is enormous. The artists get a whole wall to themselves that gets filled up. This interacts with its surroundings, making taking pictures with the artwork easy.

Abstract Images- Interrogation by Ali Banisadr
The Interrogation is the chosen art piece that spoke to me. It was done by Ali Banisadr in 2010. When I first look at the paint, a lot is going on. There are spots of color, but it is all around in a crazy way. It could be the disorder that makes me feel confused or the abundance of hues that fill my thoughts with various feelings. My first impression was how constrained I felt by the volume of artwork on this vast canvas.
The painting's rough and jagged lines make me feel the furthest from peaceful, but instead, they help me to sympathize with Ali Banisadr for the skillful manner in which he captured this conflict and made me feel as though I was there myself. The conflict shown in this painting is all about how a child, Ali Banisadr, lived through the Iran-Iraq War.
The main thing that stands out about this painting is how much is happening. It is challenging to concentrate on one item because there are so many colors, but I appreciate that. The colors go together well. More red and yellow colors are at the bottom, followed by blues and grays. The turmoil and devastation depicted in the picture were by far what caught my attention.
I learned from reading more about the picture that Banisadr depicted the sights and sounds of battle. I can see that after giving the painting another look. Red dominates the bottom half, which shows rage and devastation. This picture also shows a sense of items being crammed. The space appears relatively symmetrical, yet the image is somewhat overpowering. The painting transitions from warm red at the bottom to cool blue and grey tones. That was done to contrast the peaceful and creepy top with the death and madness at the bottom. Other individuals scattered around the image appear to be injured or dead.

Representative Work: Nighthawks

This art piece was done during the year 1942. This painting was not made for a specific person but instead showed more of a message. The work reflects the location of where this painting was created because of the story behind the picture. The art piece Nighthawks was created in New York.
Edward Hopper created an oil canvas artwork called the Nighthawks. The details that are important to me on the oil canvas show four people in an old diner. At the top of the diner are the words “Phillies”; beneath the sign is where you can see through the long glass window. Present is a man isolated on the left and looking lonely. The alone man is wearing a dark blue hat and coat and is only seen from the back.
Then, on the other side, a couple is shown. The woman's appearance is filled with red hair, a red dress, and red lipstick. The man next to her on the right is wearing a light blue hat and coat. The man is leaning against the bar, and the couple seems engaged with the worker. The worker appears to be preparing a beverage or food for the couple.
The oil canvas also shows a diner in New York City. Edward Hopper grew up in Nyack, New York. Edward then married, and his wife Josephine kept a journal stating that the painting was completed on January 1, 1942. Looking at the year and the place where Hopper painted Nighthawks specifically and that he lived in New York gives us a deeper meaning of the artwork.
Nighthawks painting tells us about the historical period in which it was created by just knowing the year 1942. World War II happened during this time, and 1941 was the year when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The knowledge of history goes hand in hand with Hopper's art piece. Surviving and living as an individual was hard; you felt alone. A lot was going on in the Big Apple with rapid modernization in technology and culture. Nighthawks oil canvas was a fantastic art piece, and as an individual who lived in New York City during the 1940s, you could relate to the characters and figures.
Knowing these details is essential because this piece originated in New York. I was born in Florida, but most of my family is from Brooklyn, New York. It is appealing to me because of my family connection. I have been to New York many times, and this painting can describe that New York feeling.
This picture speaks most to me because I have seen how people live a lonely lifestyle in the streets of New York. New York is not all about the big flashing lights. Low points always connect to the lonely feeling in a hard time, as shown in this art piece. The work's theme is that you cannot assume what one goes through; there is always a bigger picture.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Kayla Rodriguez. I am nineteen years old and currently in my second year of college. I am working towards my AA degree. I want to further my education by also getting my bachelor's degree. I am still determining what field I am leaning toward, but I want to impact kids positively.
As for my professional background, I have been working at a family-owned insurance agency. I took a course to get my CSR license when I graduated from Cape Coral High School. With this license, it broadened my horizons in the insurance world.
I have been working in insurance for about three years now. There is always something to learn every day when it comes to insurance. I am interested in this class because I am excited to learn and grasp new information. As well as trying out the way blogging works throughout the course.
