April 13 1985 - Swedish neonazis of the Nordic Reich Party try to provoke members of a Swedish Left-wing party who were holding a rally by holding their own rally right next to them, spewing their racism and hatred.
Apparently the young neonazi skinheads didn’t expect to succeed in the provocation, or expected better police protection, because they seem quite taken aback when they get pelted with eggs, beaten and chased out of the streets, by what is for the most part a group of middle-aged and elderly men and women.
The fascists ran away and had to seek shelter in the railway station, where they hid in the toilets, being protected by the cops. [video]
This was the same event where this iconic picture was taken, by Hans Runesson, of Danuta Danielsson, whose Jewish mother had survived the Nazi concentration camps in Poland:
April 13 1985 - The neonazis of Nordiska Rikspartiet held a rally in Växjö, Sweden, but were driven off by antifascists. The event lead to this iconic photograph of Danuta Danielsson hitting a neonazi with her handbag. Danuta was Jewish and of Polish heritage, and her mother had been imprisoned in Majdanek concentration camp during World War II. [video]
May 15, 2022 - A statue of Margaret Thatcher was revealed without ceremony in Grantham, in the UK, to avoid the 13,000 people who had vowed to hold an egg-throwing contest at the grand opening. However, as soon as word got out that the statue had been placed the first person carrying a carton of eggs showed up. The first of what will surely be many.
If you are ever near Grantham, why not go visit and egg or vandalise the statue yourself? [video]
2013 - Residents of the former mining community of Goldthorpe in Yorkshire celebrated Margaret Thatcher’s death with the burning of an effigy adorned with a bouquet spelling out “SCAB”. One property in the town displayed a huge sign saying: “The Lady’s not for turning but tonight she’ll be for burning." [video]
