Warning for a character succumbing to the effects of the Peacock Miraculous, though it’s ambiguous as to whether that means death, magical coma, whatever.

“Tell any callers that I’m not to be disturbed for the next half-hour, Nathalie.”

Nathalie spun in her chair to face him, her usually stoic composure slipping just a hair, and Gabriel could read the protest in her face before she said a single word.

“Sir…”

“Just a half-hour, Nathalie. I will resume my normal schedule afterwards.”

He knew she could hear the warning in his tone, the unspoken reminder that she was his assistant. It wasn’t her place to judge his private affairs, and he knew she knew that.

“Very well, sir,” she said, assuming her usual manner. She turned back to her desk, apparently unconcerned. Gabriel knew better, of course, and as he strode away, he saw the subtle motions she made over her phone. No doubt informing the one person who did have the place to judge his private affairs.

But if he was quick, he knew he could still get a decent session in before Emilie interrupted.

He’d considered, of course, simply not informing Nathalie (and by extension, Emilie) whenever he was taking a break for…inspiration. It would certainly make things easier for him. But he disliked the idea of sneaking around his own home like a common thief.

Gabriel pressed in the code to the hidden elevator, letting it take him up to his private study.

In truth, it wasn’t much of a study. Just a mostly bare attic, with just a standing desk, a sketchbook, and a large window that could be opened and closed to let the light in.

And, of course, the jewel.

The Kwami and the Robot

For a time, Max could pass Pollen off as an “imaginary friend” - but he knew he couldn’t lie to Markov forever. But how could he explain a kwami to a robot who couldn’t see or hear magical beings?

For Max, the most difficult part of being the superhero Apid was hiding that fact.

Not from his family, not from Kim and Alix, not from his superhero partner, not from the rest of his classmates. No, the hardest person to hide from was Markov.

Which was hardly unexpected. After all, Markov not only spent a great deal of time around Max, he was also far better and processing and analyzing data than any human. If anyone had the pieces to put together, and could put them together, it was Markov. There had already been far too many close calls, one too many times that Markov had overheard Max talking to Pollen.

It was fortunate that Markov’s sensors couldn’t actually detect the kwami, and Max had been able to lamely pass Pollen off as an “imaginary friend”, convincing Markov not to speak of that to anyone else as it would be embarassing. It was as good of an excuse as any.

He should’ve known it couldn’t last. But he and Pollen had gotten complacent, and it was bound to happen sooner or later.

So yeah Thorax is here and he is dark and mysterious. BUT BASICALLY HE IS LIKE IM A BUG BOI. I have to decide an AU. So how bout Marinette doesn’t get a miraculous and Kagami gets the ladybug miraculous. Omg and Chloè gets the cat miraculous. AU HAS BEEN DECIDED NOW. That’s a wild au concept, Kagami and Chloe are gonna be little sassy heroines and it’s too good. Lord imagine the banter!!

An Early Morning

Plagg reflects on his wielder, who is currently preoccupied with teaching herself how to fight with a staff.

Plagg grumbled as he found himself awoken at an unusually early hour. It wasn’t a school day, and Marinette’s parents hadn’t said anything about needing her help in the bakery in the morning, so Plagg had been looking forward to a nice, lazy, sleep-in morning.

Ugh, he hoped it wasn’t an Akuma. He didn’t want to transform right now…

But Marinette didn’t seem to be calling for transformation. Instead, she stood in a battle-ready stance with her eyes glued to her computer screen as a video played on it. She appeared to be imitating the movements of the person on screen. Which made some amount of sense, but…

“You’re swinging a broom around,” he said, blinking the bleariness from his eyes.

Marinette paused the video and whirled around. “I’m practicing,” she said. “But I don’t exactly want Mom and Dad to come in here and wonder why Black Cat is in my room, practicing staff fighting, do I? So…makeshift staff.” She gestured with the broom.

Plagg yawned loudly. “Seems like a lot of effort so early in the morning. You’ve defeated all the Akumas so far, what’s the problem?”

“The problem,” Marinette said. “Is that I’m ineffective at staff fighting! So far, I’ve been able to fight the Akumas, but what if that’s not enough?”

“You worry too much,” Plagg said. “I had a Cat in the past that only used the staff to whack enemies on the top of the head. He never bothered to learn how to fight.”

“That’s not good enough for me,” she said firmly. “If we’re going to defeat Papillon, I have to be prepared for anything.”

“You’re such an overachiever.”

Marinette smiled. “Keep saying things like that and I might start thinking you’re proud of me,” she teased.
