Inktober, Day 3: Bait

I stoked Ren's conflicted soul. I knew he was not strong enough to hide it from you, and you were not wise enough to resist the bait.

Inktober day 2: Mindless.

Zentangles and coloring sheets are great mindless fun, so I made a kintsugi Kylo coloring sheet and then spent waaaayyyy too long decorating it last night. If you like coloring - please feel free to download the blank one and make your own version!

Inktober, Day 1: Ring

I would kill for a moment like this in TROS.  I know it’s unlikely, but I still have a tiny bit of hope.  Maybe they will surprise us all and pull off some movie magic with those unused Leia scenes.

I was in a monoprint workshop yesterday, and as usual, this guy was my muse. He’s so much fun to draw.

When in doubt, draw a space prince.

This drawing is dedicated to @voicedimplosives and her canon-verse adaptation of Persuasion called All Our Days, which has me utterly and completely spellbound! I’ve cried over this fic more than any story that I can remember, but it has such stunningly beautiful and poetic writing that it balances out all the angst. The latest chapter features a shared dream-space for Rey and Ben while they are worlds apart, so I tried to capture that wistful, dreamy quality with my drawing. 

Every part of her remembers. Remembers him, his body, remembers other times they met under the tree in that liminal space between sleep and waking, remembers soft whispering exchanges in soft rose-gold light. Soft touches exchanged, soft lips touching places that have not been kissed since he left.

“Stars,” she gasps out, blinking up at the darkness with wonderment.

This piece was inspired by my favorite WIP and one of my all-time favorite authors - Cream by @ao3animal.  She writes quirky stories with deep mysteries and nuanced characters that I never fail to be completely obsessed with. And I absolutely live for every time Benjamin gets to lay his head in Rey’s lap so she can pet his hair. It’s so SO good!

I got the Hot Toys dolls a few months ago to use as reference for my fanart drawings, but I liked this photo so much that it seemed pointless to re-draw it. Oh well. Nice photography is an art form too, right?

My greatest wish for EpIX is that we finally get to see Ben Solo smile.

So this one is a little bit different, but this week I’ve been re-reading my all-time favorite modern AU Reylo fic, go i know not whither and fetch i know not what by @voicedimplosives. It’s an absolutely amazing story with some of the best world-building that I’ve ever read, and it totally made me fall in love with all-things Russian. I’ve actually had so much fun reading it again that it inspired me to make some stealthy fanart that I could use to decorate my home. First, I painted a picture of Rey and Kyril’s little red dacha in the woods, then I decorated a chalkboard sign with Kyril’s pet name for Rey - milaya. To round off the Russian theme, I added a red star, an ushanka, a bear sculpture, a print of onion domes from a book of Russian fairy tales, and I even have one of the ravens from Rey’s dreams.  

Does it still count as Reylo fanart if there’s no Rey and Kylo in the picture? I’m really not sure, but it makes me happy, so I guess that’s all that matters. I’ve been telling myself that it’s like a mood board for my living room.

I got the idea for this drawing after watching the Laendler dance scene in Sound of Music, but mostly I was just excited to have an excuse to draw Rey and Ben with fancy clothes and pretty hair.

This fall ended up being unexpectedly hard for me, and I completely crashed and burned with Inktober this year. But I’m finally in the mood to make some art again so I drew a moody Ben Solo as a little warmup.

And while I’m here, I also wanted to take a minute to thank @sleemo, @xanadus-kira and @driverdaily (among others!) for always posting a ton of wonderful photos from various press events. I’m the type of artist who desperately needs to have reference photos to work from, so I’m incredibly grateful to the people who fill my feed with beautiful photos of the Star Wars actors and actresses to use as inspiration. Thank-you! ❤️

Inktober, day 5: Chicken.  

Just a super quick doodle for today since the prompt wasn’t very inspiring to me.

Inktober, day 4: Spell.  

My Reylo fanfic drawing for today was inspired by a delightful fantasy AU called The Girl and Her Dragon by Thelittlescrimshaw (aka @littlemanicmonday). Rey is an apprentice mage to a charmingly grumpy dragon named Kylo, who has taken her under his wing (ha!). It is eventually revealed that Kylo used to be a prince before he was transformed into his current state by a spell, but he still manages to visit Rey’s dreams in his human form. *swoon!* I have such a soft spot for Reylo fairy tales, and this one is SO good!

Ink(less)tober*, day 3: Roasted.

The theme for today made me think of the story Glory’s Fray by @avidvampirehunter. It’s a truly lush and captivating Roman gladiator AU that has blown my mind with its attention to detail when it comes to historical culture and daily life. There are lots of scenes involving cooking and roasted meats, but my favorite one is where Rey sits on Ben’s lap and feeds him at a feast.  

Placing the newly-filled chalice upon the table, Ben leans to murmur into Rey’s ear, his lips brushing the sensitive skin sends her scent into him, falling down his throat to meet a more primal side. It makes his voice deeper, as if of its own accord. “Feed me.”

Rey inhales shakily, bending away from him, eager for the distance—anything to ease her pounding heart—as she takes his portion from the table, plucking a tender chunk of fowl to place against his waiting mouth.

*Confession time - This was supposed to be a tempera resist painting, where you paint ink over tempera paint and then wash it off so that it looks antiqued. But I ended up liking the ink-less version better than the inked one, so I’m not technically Inktobering today.
