Pink! Blue! Pink! Blue!

Obviously I couldn’t be expected to choose! I went with a fun sundress for Aurora with a bit of Briar flair, a bit of a softer hairstyle, and a pose reminiscent of a scene from the movie.

I used to hate Sleeping Beauty as a kid, and adult me has no idea why! I did also really enjoy the alternate take we got in Maleficent. I hadn’t put much thought into what modern Aurora would be doing - how do you think she spends her days?

No justice, no peace!

It only felt obvious to me that Esmeralda would be a warrior for social justice. She would be at every march, every protest, always speaking out for the oppressed and the suffering. I think in the modern day, she could only be more empowered and ready to speak up.

So this is a timely one, but also one that I’m really on the fence about? I love her outfit as far as being inspired by the original design, but I worry if I made it too “costumey”? She’s always struck me as someone who does what she likes and isn’t really bound by society’s expectations, so I can imagine her wearing something crazy like this to honor her heritage and simultaneously spit on the ideas of what’s “appropriate”.

She takes no shit and pulls no punches, and you better not make her mad! 

Merida is all temper and adventure, quick to throw up her hair and take off on another adventure. Sure, she might end up with some scrapes or sprains, but she’s never been the type to shy away from a challenge. 

I think modern day Merida would work on a farm, possibly breeding (and maybe racing?) horses, just to feel the wind in her hair. She would definitely compete in horseback events, too!

Rapnuzel, Rapunzel~! Put down your brush~!

All I can see when I picture modern Rapunzel is a fun-loving quirky artist who spends hours upon hours holed up in her studio, always working on the next project.

Big eyes, big heart, big hair, big dreams. She’s always singing and dancing, and when she’s not working on her paintings and crafts, she’s out exploring the world with her sketchbook and looking for new inspiration~

I looove this one, I had so much fun playing with clashing patterns, because I definitely see Rapunzel being too lost in thought to pay attention when she’s getting dressed!

Nature princess~ I had a lot of fun with our modern Pocahontas. I knew I wanted her to have a kinda hippie/boho/free spirit vibe, and she would 1000% be the type to fundraise and try to protect the wilderness. Very much eco-friendly and anti-deforestation, y’know?

I really got carried away with all the jewelry and accessories I wanted to put on her, I actually had a lot more and ended up taking some away because it felt too cluttered haha 😂

But I’m really happy with the finished product. <3

Miss Charlotte La Bouff~

I have to post this back to back with her best of friends, Tiana, because I just loved their dynamic together. I went back and forth with the outfit and her hair, I wondered if her pose was too risque...

But I was really set on the overall pose, and I think it suits her. I see this take on modern Lottie as an aspiring model who gets hired to do lots of Marilyn Monroe impersonation.  I’m lowkey obsessed with her hair, and sooo proud of her hands. <3 Let me know who else you want to see!

We love a working woman~! ModDis Tiana in what I picture she would wear to work. 

I think in my modern AU, Tiana runs a small cafe while she’s saving up to branch out and start her restaurant. I wanted something that was a good mix of professional and casual, but still had a little flair of fun. And of course, her famous beignets!

Next in the Modern Disney line, Belle~!

The classy, sassy bookworm beauty happens to be wearing one of my favorite outfits from this series. A hi-low skirt so it doesn’t get in her way, with leggings beneath so she can climb or run with no worries. A pouch to carry pens and paper and other essentials, and of course her favorite book about two lovers in Verona.

The rose hem actually ended up being my favorite part of this drawing, despite how annoying it was at first.

Another lady from my Modern Disney series, Ariel~!

With the summer winding down and the fall creeping in, I decided that she should be next in line to post; a farewell to warm weather with our favorite mer-babe turned beach bum~

I tried to capture the fun-loving side of Ariel - I can just see her wandering the beaches with her boba, skipping in and out of waves, collecting seashells and drawing pictures in the sand with her bare feet. As one of my favorite princesses, I had a lot of fun thinking about her, and a lot of fun drawing her.

Hi all~ 

It’s been a hot minute since you’ve seen me posting, but I live~! haha

And I’m back with a new series! I’m calling it Modern Disney, ModDis for short. Very creative, I know. We’re starting with Mulan because I just saw the new movie on Disney+ and my little sister and I just couldn’t shut up about what Mulan would be like in the modern age.

I decided she’d be a very “streetwear” kinda gal - not too masculine or feminine, very androgynous and practical. I like to think she’s rockin’ some kickass Doc Martins too ;3

I’ve already drawn up a few of the other princesses and heroines, and I’m still working through the list. Let me know if you guys want to see anyone specific!

It’s been a minute since I actually put effort into a BG (even though my “wood grains” are really just squiggles lmao) and it took longer than I expected, but I feel like it’s really worth it! 

Included closeups of my fave parts, her glowy eyes, the adorable milky, her cutesy toes that took FOREVER..... seriously guys, feet are such a pain. I’m really happy with it!

On the Subject of Persephone's Duality

Hades, who pines so desperately for his beloved wife that he ceded most governing power to her to better worship her presence. Hades who grieves her absence and cannot bear to temper the delicate knife through the ribs that is her temper.

Why would you waste your fears on Hades when there's a much more terrifying denizen seated beside him? Hades' polished obsidian smacks of authority, at first imposing itself over hers in your gaze. But you find your eye inexplicably pulled to a throne of woven branches, subtle thorns peeking through the dead bark. She has crafted this chair from the remnants of friends long dead at her own selfish hand.

Persephone, whose very name means Destroyer, who bears the face of a naive maiden and the eyes of a seasoned hunter.
