'Minecraft' Library Helps You Dodge News Media Censorship
There are a variety of ways to keep media from being censored, but it is becoming more difficult as countries like Russia and China take action against VPNs. Reporters Without Borders believes it has the answer to the growing problems: make the news available in a game that is rarely blocked. The team has collaborated with BlockWorks and MediaMonks on the Uncensored Library, a Minecraft map that features news articles from journalists and websites which are frequently restricted for their unflattering information. Articles from Jamal Khashoggi, a murdered journalist from Saudi Arabia, Hatice Cengiz supports this project, Grani.ru, an activist-friendly Russian website, and Mada Masr (an Egyptian anti-corruption outlet), among others.
You can also get information about the current state of press freedom in 180 countries.
The library is a technical achievement in its own right. It's a huge neoclassical museum, with specific country wings and huge book collections. The library isn't able to be ripped apart, but you can add more when you have the time and desire.
Reporters Without Borders believes the Uncensored Library should be relatively resilient. Anyone can download the map, and Minecraft's nature allows it to host another server if an oppressive country attempts to shut one down. This wouldn't last forever, though. Countries with draconian censorship measures aren't likely to think twice about bans on Minecraft completely This could be just a temporary reprieve.
However, that's not the entire reason. This is also a commentary on the issue of censorship and a means to engage people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in such a difficult subject. If it can inspire a small number of Minecraft players to advocate for freedom of speech or pursue investigative reporting as a career then it has accomplished its goal. PREMIUM EBOOKS
