marco is the first and only son of ariana ruiz-miller, an urgent care nurse. he was the product of a summer fling, and his biological father had been long gone before ariana knew she was pregnant with him. 

his mother remarried charles miller, a cop. together, they had a daughter when marco was five. 

his half-sister, nicola miller, was born with down’s syndrome. due to their parents’ busy schedules, marco was tasked with babysitting most days. despite being a handful sometimes, she is marco’s best friend and they are extremely close. 

nicola inspired marco to want to be a special education teacher. he plans to attend a nearby local college so he can be near his sister. 

he has a girlfriend that he’s been dating since freshman year. they’re both wildly different in terms of personality, but they get along very well. 

he’s kind, approachable and helpful. he has many friends, though he has trouble opening up to them.
