A 15-year-old California teen with autism was fatally shot after he ran toward deputies while holding a large-bladed gardening tool. The incident happened before 5 p.m. last Saturday when San Bernardino County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Apple Valley area, according to KLTA. Deputies said family members called 911 to report that Ryan Gainer was “actively assaulting family members and damaging property at the residence.” The Gainer family’s attorney, DeWitt M. Lacy said Gainer became upset because he needed to do his chores, which affected his normal routine, PEOPLE reported. Lacy also told PEOPLE that by the time deputies arrived, Gainer had become apologetic and apologized for breaking the window.

Trans woman in need

tl;dr: I need help paying rent, bills, and grocery shopping. Any help I could get would be absolutely amazing and I would be so grateful.
Hi! My name is Mordred and I recently lost my job during a mental breakdown. Since then I have been suffering from compound issues of long covid, chronic fatigue syndrome (something I've been dealing with since before covid), long term ankle and back pains from injuries, not to mention depression. Its become really hard managing life while suffering through these and I had hoped that living off my savings and focusing on my health it'd all get better. But, as my savings are drying up and I'm still suffering, I still have rent, bills, groceries, and even medical bills to pay. I hate to do this but I'm genuinely having such a hard time here and I really need help. If I could possibly get any kind of donations to help me through this, I'd be so thankful.

Hey mate, I was wondering.
What's the actual benefit of not voting?
What does it achieve?
Cause honestly the anti-vote thing makes no sense to me. Someone is going to be US president (unless the US govt is overthrown before its next presidential election) whats the benefit to choosing not to have a say in it?
If you don't feel qualified to explain (or don't have the time), feel free to point me to someone who can.
Thanks in advance, a confused Aussie.
I've never advocated against voting, but as an Australian whose country has compulsory voting, you should know better than anyone that increasing voter turnout isn't going to keep the conservatives out of power, let alone transform a bourgeois democracy into a proletarian one.
I don't think there's any benefit to voting or not voting. Without an active, popular and class conscious worker's movement, the choices on the ballot are nine times out of ten going to be choices pre-approved by representatives of the interests of the capitalist class. You don't have a say in any of it because it's all been decided before the ballot was printed.
There is a tendency towards non-voting on both sides of the aisle. In the US, usually one third to one half of registered voters do not vote for one reason or another in the general election, and voter turnout is usually worse in local or special elections. Polls have shown that the political distribution of non-voters does not differ significantly from the political distribution of voters. So this idea that voter apathy is some particularly left-wing sin that will bolster the chances of a Trump or otherwise conservative victory doesn't hold water.
In the US at the present moment, the anti-capitalist left is disorganized and fragmented. There is no effective means at this point in time to organize a boycott of the next election or to promote a third-party presidential candidate. Most left-wing Americans who choose to vote will probably vote for Biden, and those of us who are not planning on voting or who are planning on voting for a third-party candidate are not going to be convinced by the same old moralizing arguments that tell us we're to blame if Trump wins. Most people don't live in swing states to begin with, meaning their votes aren't likely to impact the presidential race. I live in a state that has voted Democrat for the last nine elections and has only gotten more blue as time has gone by. I think it's safe to say my vote isn't going to change that this time.
Education and organization, in my mind, are far more important than voting. Workers as a class should be trying to gain enough power and influence to direct the decision-making, not fighting over which of our pre-approved decisions is least bad. Vote for whoever you like. At the end of the day, it's not going to be leftists on Tumblr who decide the next election.

i have no patience for people talking about violent rhetoric on the left really because every day i read the news and every politician in this country and in most others is saying 'we gotta kill more people'. they use different words to say it. obviously you're not supposed to just say 'we gotta kill more people'. but there's all kinds of polite and okay ways to say it.
'we need to control our borders' is a phrase which here means 'we gotta kill more people, we gotta drown more refugees in boats, we gotta send more people back to warzones and governments that want them dead, we gotta make more camps and we gotta make the camps more fatal'.
'we need to be tougher on welfare fraud' is a phrase which here means 'we gotta kill more people, we gotta make disabled people do more song and dance routines to convince some indifferent bureaucrat that they deserve to eat and we gotta make sure that the bureaucrats say 'no', we gotta starve those kids more, we gotta make sure families and kids and old people are freezing in the winter'.
'we need to tackle violent crime' is a phrase which here means 'we gotta kill more people, specifically Black people, unless we said Terrorism instead of Crime, in which case it's specifically muslims, shoot them, imprison them, surveil them, disappear them, brutalize them, whatever.'
and of course none of this is Violent Speech. this is Sensible Political Discourse. these are Common-Sense Policy Goals. we gotta kill more people: that's an electable policy. you can always count on we gotta kill more people as a platform. we gotta kill more people is gonna sweep the nation baby. we gotta kill more people 2024 -- vote now on your phones. now slow down. hold your horses. did that guy just say we gotta kill more people? well that just wont do. thats why im running on a platform of we gotta kill more people for cheaper, to stop this wasteful madness. and the people just keep dying but seems like there's still some of them left so i guess we're just circling back around to our main thing which is: we gotta kill more people

Would you rather have a president that enables a genocide? Or would you rather have a president that vilifies immigrants, promotes facism, dismantles the rights of women and minorities, emboldens white nationalists, worsens the wage gap, defunds vital services, AND enables a genocide?
It's an unfair and unreasonable question to ask. I know. Unfortunately those are our choices for president. It sucks, but it's a 2 party system. And until any change is made where a 3rd party vote is no longer equivalent to not voting at all, it's better to just vote blue for the presidential election. Not because Democrats are the "lesser evil", but because NOT having a Republican president will prevent further suffering of Americans and will lessen the risks of minorities' rights being threatened and revoked.
The president chooses the members of the supreme court who hold lifelong positions and whose legal decisions have decades-long ramifications. Trump picked 3 of the 11 current members who currently hold a Republican majority. It was that supreme court that overturned Roe V Wade and that decision is harming thousands of people today in multiple states.
Biden already nominated one SCOTUS, and in his next term he could appoint 1-2 more Democratic members who would work to protect rather than erode American rights.
The Trump administration was lethal for thousands of Americans for a multitude of reasons, including his failure to properly respond to and then proceeded to politicize the COVID-19 pandemic.
As awful as it sounds, as hard as it is to believe in the moment, ESPECIALLY with the atrocities Biden is perpetuating in Palestine right now, don't believe for a moment that this genocide would be even slightly less cruel under Trump. The difference is Trump's cruelties would extend to Americans as well— especially immigrants.
The point I'm making is the only ethical choice for this election is to vote for Biden, but at the same time that vote is not the same as condoning his actions. Don't let voting be the end all for political action, and I hope you understand why this choice is necessary in an unfair voting system. Please participate in your local elections, Call your representatives. Continue demanding a permanent ceasefire and an end of Israel's occupation over Palestine. And please keep helping Palestinians.
I think it's quite wild to say people domestically haven't been dying under Biden. Hundreds of thousands disabled people have died during the Biden presidency due to covid. I myself only got covid because people around my family stopped masking. Even some of my family members stopped masking because of the CDC thing. There have been countless other things that I'm too tired to list as well that directly contributed to the death of people.
I'm sorry I don't know why you sent this I'm not going to change my mind. I'm not voting for the man that killed people I know and lied to our faces about it.

“In the Marxist tradition, it was Rosa Luxemburg who attempted to develop the concept of ‘metabolism’ to conceptualize this unequal relationship between capitalist centres and non-capitalist peripheries as the essential condition for capital accumulation. In The Accumulation of Capital, Luxemburg criticized the destructive impact of capitalist development upon non-capitalist societies, even arguing that capitalism was borne fundamentally in a non-capitalist environment. In other words, capitalism is from the very beginning dependent on unequal exchange that provides not simply cheap but often free labour power of slaves as well as natural resources for the centre.”

This is so bleak and it makes me want to throw up.
U.S. public opinion is deeply divided – and to a large extent uncertain – about whether President Joe Biden is striking the right balance in his approach to the war (21%), favoring the Israelis too much (22%) or favoring the Palestinians too much (16%). The largest single slice of the public –40% – is not sure how well Biden is handling the issue. While these views are broadly similar to what we found in a December 2023 Pew Research Center survey, opinion among those under 30 has shifted. In the February survey, 36% of those ages 18 to 29 say Biden is favoring Israel too much, up from 27% just a few months ago. (Explore this further in Chapter 2.) American Jews stand out for the relatively high share who say Biden is striking the right balance (45%). Only around a quarter or fewer in most other religious groups say the same, including just 6% of U.S. Muslims. Muslims are among the U.S. religious groups that are most inclined to say Biden favors the Israelis too much (60%). Among other religious and nonreligious groups, atheists (52%) and agnostics (43%) are especially likely to express this view.

So unfortunately upon my friend actually getting their car worked on over the past few days, it turns out the costs were quite a bit more than $92, and to cover the full cost they need $106 more as problems arose while the car was being fixed. If you wish to help them finish getting their car fixed while allowing them to still afford their full rent and keep their job you can donate here: Paypal: here
