I know the meltdowns are in full force right now and everyone is in different stages of grief over the name change and a lot of folks aren’t ready to move past the denial phase but.. yeah guys, there is nowhere to squeeze in a preemptive “interview with the vampire” between “anne rice” and “the vampire lestat” on that poster for a reason: “interview with the vampire” isn’t the name that amc wants you to associate with this franchise. It’s “Anne Rice.” That’s it. That’s the whole brand.

I think it’s very likely that this time last year this was absolutely going to be season 3 of iwtv, but I think it’s clear that the project has evolved into enough of its own thing both tonally and aesthetically that the execs in charge feel that TVL can carry the weight of an entire series on its own. Remember this network is trying to broaden its “immortal universe” this year with Talamasca, and having yet another show on the roster makes the Anne Rice brand seem even larger.

But should we worry about IwtV? Maybe? But this could also be to the show’s benefit. Like each show could feasibly be adapting different material from the series in a way that feels like it’s building to a larger “avengers” style crossover event series while sticking to their prescribed POV.

Like okay imagine if you will:

TVL season 1 adapts TVL with elements of TVA and B&G, then it’s second season could adapt QOTD (or it could be its own “event” limited series) season 3 i think could even combine TTOTBT and MTD into a single narrative where Lestat’s run-in with the devil could occur in phases? Like maybe first while he’s cooking in the Gobi desert, then perhaps again while he’s a human in the hospital he could go from talking to Claudia’s ghost to another run in with Memnoch etc. Combine Gretchen and Dora into a single character.. you see it right? Then TVL seasons 4-5 could cover the PL trilogy

IWTV season 3 then could air between seasons 1-2 of TVL, continuing maybe the following year but still keeping Louis as the lead while adapting his arc from Merrick (as it doesn’t really need to happen after QOTD to be impactful). Like if they didn’t want to use David Talbot they could have Daniel fill in his role. Really for the 4th season you could have Louis fill in for Lestat’s role in Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle acting as the sort of mentor figure for Quinn and (i guess it’s Moira probably?) Quinn could easily be rewritten as a person of color and it would allow IWTV to continue to tackle social issues as that was what it was most highly praised for in season 1, and most challenged for not covering as heavily in season 2.

Then Talamasca could act as a sort of “avengers” space for the sillier crossover stories.

I dunno I got bored thinking about how this could benefit the overall franchise so I made like a fully speculative Kevin Feige-style spreadsheet of tv shows to better explain how this could continue to work

I stopped at 3 “phases” but you see the vision? Like AMC could easily do a TVA spin off, or they could pursue more book rights for the Wolf Gift, Mummy Trilogy, Servant of the Bones, Violin, to adapt as shows in their own right or as one off stories for Talamasca etc.

in the vampire lestat book, lestat cries 67 times, weeps 31 times, tears up 27 times and is hysterical 3 times.

the main reason why I prefer the vampire chronicles books over the amc interview with the vampire show is bcus the books were created by a genuinely insane goth woman with terrible morals and a sexual obsession with the Catholic Church while she was going through multiple manic episodes and doing coke in her pajamas over the span of 42 years and the amc show was created by a team of writers working under a tv network who really really needed a recognizable property under their belt to get people to pay for their streaming service.

I like the show too but it just feels like I’m watching the sanitization and commercialization of a story truly from the depths of a freak bitches’s soul and I can’t rlly get behind the whole “omgg we r so crazy with our psychosexual vampire sex show 🤪🤪” identity the amc iwtv fandom has when it’s just like, a stripping down of smth truly fucked up and crazy and deeply personally into around 15 hours of more palatable and condensed + acceptable content that can be enjoyed by ppl who want to commit to smth weird but not that weird

Yesterday I saw The Vampire Lestat in a second-hand bookshop and he was looking hot af on the cover.

But I left as I already have two and it was in Finnish. Today, however, I went back because Lestat was calling to me like some shirtless vampire siren.

The Innovation Comics adaptations of books 1-3 are still my favorite non-novel TVC media of all (with the show coming in at a close 2nd) but as for a completely straight forward retelling of the novels? These cannot be beat. I will die heartbroken that issue 12 of Queen of the Damned is lost media 😭 (and don’t get me started on how hard Sicilian Dragon fumbled Body Thief).

Fucking phenomenal choice of pages from IWTV to put these panels over 10/10 no notes

Louis trying to convince Lestat to forgive his dad before he kills him is behind the formation of the band page and Louis burning down Pointe du Lac is behind the panels where Lestat is marveling at his audacity in letting the interview be published/pining for him 💕

listen I know it's heartbreaking that Claudia dies and it's understandable to wish she didn't, but let's please not accuse the writers of fridging her. to do so is a fundamental misunderstanding of the story and is frankly insulting to the intelligence and skill of the writers of the show.

Claudia's death, and the overwhelming grief and regret her parents experience because of it, is quite literally the point of the entire story. she dies because Anne's daughter Michele died of leukemia when she was five years old and there was nothing she or her husband could do to prevent it.

writing IWTV was how Anne coped with the unimaginable loss of a parent losing her child. she created a story about a little girl that could not die and then killed her anyway. Claudia's death is a senseless, unavoidable tragedy, just like Michele's was. the grief that haunts Louis and Lestat for the rest of their lives is the same grief that haunted Anne and her husband.

so when you're accusing people of killing Claudia off to benefit a story about two men, please remember that in real life sometimes parents lose their children. please remember Michele Rice.

she's the reason Claudia exists.

she's also the reason Claudia cannot be saved.

I’ll be honest the way some people talk about this show makes it sound less like they’re interested in the messy nature of people failing and remorse and guilt and atonement and redemption and regret and the capacity to change and the inability to undo what’s been done and unforgivable actions and maybe forgivable people and how you face all of it and continue to live and endure. and more like they want to be sitting in that jury, determining who’s guilty or not guilty, deciding a sentence, and walking away satisfied in the result being final

Congratulations that's how you're supposed to feel watching this show and reading these books, conflicted for feeling empathy for a monster, whether they are human or not. This is why we've been telling you that there's no place for "fuck x character" or "kill x character with a hammer" in the Vampire Chronicles
