To follow on Rom: Nog. Nog!!! I love that even after he joins Starfleet we see him proud of being Ferengi. The pursuit of latinum/greed is good ethos that hurt his father and has caused his uncle so much grief is what Nog rejects but he holds firm to the complementary Ferengi belief that trade is an inherent good that benefits everyone.

His speech about the Great River, his commitment to a chain of swaps, all of it together shows a future where the Ferengi can find common ground with the Federation without losing their culture.

I love that so many characters in ds9 are patriots who are unacceptable to their homeland for some reason or another. About loving with nothing in return. Love how the beta canon books have Garak fully realising that loving cardassia means fighting for it to treat people better, that the people are cardassia. Love sisko "it's easy to be a saint in paradise" speech and his struggle to protect the federation while maintaining the integrity of what the federation is. Love people questioning their values and deciding to care
