i do think you mischaracterized him by saying he's a status quo upholder who works with the government. in my original message i asked what you meant by that in regards to the movie because i couldn't see how that would be something you could infer from the movie. if you want to talk about comics then be my guest (although that gets a little messy because of how many versions of superman there are in those, plus the inconsistent writing in later comics that can make him look like a douchebag) but im specifically thinking about the characters in the original photo. š because that's what the twitter post is also talking about. LOL.
do i think they would agree on everything? nah. who does? but do i think clark is that much of a bootlicker? no fucking way š

did we watch the same movie...? superman literally works against the government and the billionaire(s) manipulating government officials, to the point he gets imprisoned and tortured because the government deems him a threat because he's an alien... he does not gaf about what any government says if it means people are going to die, and he essentially says that in the movie.
i think the two characters have a lot more in common political ideas wise than personality wise, and i think that's where people get things mixed up. although james gunn's superman was shown to have a bit of a temper on him...

i am by far not the most qualified person to speak on the quality of the analogy and i have no idea if james gunn actually intended for superman to serve as a metaphor for the conflict in israel and gaza but i feel like it held up pretty good. i was talking with my friend on the way home and she pointed out how perhaps it isnāt the best sentiment to have āpalestineāsā only savior be in the form of a fictional superhero, but i feel like that was a criticism in and of itself. everybody is afraid of what stopping the conflict in boravia and janhanpur could mean for the united states; clark continuously points out how he directly and immediately stopped innocent people from dying, but lois (representing the media conglomerate) is still hesitant to critique boravia as there was āno way to know their true intentionsā. and sheās vindicated in this; boravia attacks metropolis the very next day, and any extreme comments like the boravian president exclaiming how the streets should ārun red with janhanpurian bloodā are kept out of the public eye. in her view (and many other peopleās), preventing the conflict only leads to the direct suffering of american peopleāand, anyway, boravia is saying it only wants to save janhanpur from its totalitarian regime.
but boravia attacks metropolis once and just leaves. all of the other forces that threaten the city in the rest of the film are entirely luthorās doing (the public doesnāt know this, but they donāt think theyāre boravian attacks, either). the people are able to get back on their feet; if there are any casualties they are surely few, as itās mere days afterward that people are unpreoccupied enough to be more concerned about a scandal on superman. so yes, gunn is saying that there is nobody but superman, not the government or even the press, willing to take direct action to help janhanpurābut heās also saying thatās an idiotic sentiment. heās directly demonstrating that nothing āboraviaāāfunded by the united states government and billionairesācould ever do to america could possibly be as bad as what they could do (are doing?) to ājanhanpurā.
#real real real real#i feel like thats EXACTLY what people are missing in regards to that conflict#it's SUPPOSED to make you upset that the only person willing to stand up was a SUPERHERO!!!#IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THAT.#you were supposed to say āwtf why is no one else doing anythingā and then look at what LOIS was saying to realize what the media#and general populous was thinking#YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO TAKE THAT CONFLICT AT FACE VALUE.#it's not āsuperhero saved them because nobody couldā#it's SUPERHERO TRIED TO STOP THE CONFLICT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE CARED ENOUGH TO. NOBODY SAW THE PEOPLE AS āWORTH ITā TO CALL FOR JUSTICE#BUT THEN. BUT THEN. IN THE END. THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE WHO SAW. AND DECIDED HUMAN LIVES WERE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY AND CORPORATIONS#superman only cared about the fact people were going to die. and that's the POINT. everyone else was too worried about public image#and political bullshit.#superman 2025

i keep seeing this image and im sorry but i have to disagree. superman has always been political because comics have always been political. we have "real life super villains" because what did you think writers used to model these villains off of... these real life villains aren't new. i feel like if you think superman 2025 isn't trying to be political you watched the movie with you eyes closed and audio off.
