Since I'm now planning to re-write an old ROTAI fanfic, here's a 3 page fanfic about Archie's parents along with Salah and Yumi's background in the meantime of waiting.
Beginning
It was a dark night just as always, two illagers, a pillager and a vindicator just finished their shift from an outpost not far from where they lived, and after their shift they returned to the dark oak forest where their home, the Mansion resides.
Illagers like the two lived at the bottom of the mansion, where it was dark, damp, and the floor would creak with each step. And the path to each living quarters had a torch next to each door which served as a light source.
The hallway or rooms and torches, eventually stopping at a door which had a mark to indicate it was theirs, one of them had the key and unlocked the door, letting the pillager walk inside before following her and swiftly closing the door behind them
Inside, there was a child, he wasn't like the others, he had a birth defect that made him shorter than the others and his head was rather wide. the child ran towards the two and gave them a hug in his small arms
"Mom! Dad! I missed you!" The child let go and admiringly stared at the two.
"Told ya we'd come back Archie." the vindicator leaned in to pat the child's head, Archie smiled at them before being cut off by the pillager.
"And... we got you something!" The pillager smiled sweetly, she was hiding something behind her back, once she told Archie he started shaking in excitement. "Really mom!? A gift?!... What is it?" Before Archie could start guessing the pillager pulled out an axe, it wasn't as shiny or polished like most vindicator axes, but Archie's eyes widened from it, he instantly took his gift and thanked the two. Maybe with this new gift, he can become a great fighter just like his parents.
Abandoned
One of Archie's parents was called over by the leader of the tribe, the Evoker, Walda. This was a chance for Archie's mother to try and negotiate with Walda if she can stay at the mansion to take care of Archie, since it just so happens that the two were assigned in the same very risky patrol mission at the same date. The pillager tried to keep her breath stable as she had her shaky hand on the cold iron handle of the door that would lead to Walda's office.
When the time for her was ready, she slowly opened the door, she glanced at the Evoker, slightly intimidated by her presence, before she could speak up she was then cut off by Walda's sharp voice.
"You wanted to address a concern with the patrol?." Walda asked, her hand on her desk and the other with a quill.
"Yes I did, I'm concerned about my child, you assigned me and my partner on the same date, would it be possible for me or him to stay so one of us can look after my child?." Archie's mother answered, with her body tense.
"And why do you think that I want you to stay in the mansion just for a child?." Walda then abruptly stopped writing, which made the pillager tense up even more.
"I...it's because..." She stuttered, "This patrol mission seems risky, don't you think?."
Walda then gave a laugh at what she said before speaking "wow! Congratulations, are you now realizing that missions are risky?—I think I should give you a damn medal for your discovery." Walda mocked. "You know, it isn't uncommon for us to leave our young alone when facing for battle, it's natural, almost everybody in this mansion has done it before. Now quit your nonsense before I shun you out of here." Walda said bluntly, not wanting to hear another word from her. Which made the Pillager lose all her hope in the safety of her child, she had no other choice but to leave Walda's office and break the news to her partner.
She returned back to the bottom of the mansion, knocking at the door to tell her partner about the news. She brought him outside the room to talk about it, she didn't want Archie to worry too much about them.
"My dear, The Evoker didn't like the idea of one of us staying, we have to take on the patrol together." She said softly, trying to hold back her sadness. "Look, Archie's strong... We've done this before, it'll be okay." the vindicator says as an attempt to comfort her and ease the situation.
"You know this is the most riskiest mission we've ever been assigned to!, I'm just afraid that—what if... what if we don't come back to him like we promised?." The vindicator's heart sank once he heard her words. "No... Don't say that, it won't happen, we promised that we'll come back to him, and if it's not meant to happen—I swear to the Gods I'll do whatever it takes to make it happen." He held her hands in his, urging her to not think of those thoughts and to trust him that they would return to Archie.
And the two eventually left to face the mission.
Archie's parents marched through the dense dark oak forest, keeping their eyes open for any undead to spawn and ambush them. Thankfully, no one got hurt during the march, and they reached their destination, a small village that settled on the west side beyond the dark oak forest, making it an easy target for the illagers, but... They had a reason why they hadn't raided it yet, it was heavily protected, not just by the iron golems but the hero who resides in the village, before the patrol set foot into the village, the Raid Captain did a quick check to see if everybody's ready to charge.
And when everybody raised their weapons, it was time, the Raid Captain blew his horn and they charged to the village, taking lives, burning the houses, trying to cause as much damage as they could before the hero could arrive.
Blood and steel.
As the pillagers caused their havoc upon the village, the hero arrived shortly after upon hearing the village bell's call, the hero immediately sprung into action, taking down groups of illagers with a sharp swing of his sword, taking away the attention of the patrol from the village and challenging them to face him, giving the villagers the opportunity to escape the bloodshed.
One of the villagers, a farmer, rallied up as many survivors as he could, going from door to door and even risking his life by running into the burning houses to save them, he managed to save fourteen of them. Thinking that he saved the remaining survivors, the villager heard a loud cry for help from one of the burning houses. He told the survivors to escape into the forest where they can safely regroup before running into the burning house where he heard the cry, kicking down the door and finding a mother and her child trying to escape the fire and the smoke that filled the whole house. He ran to the two and grabbed the mother's arm to help her escape. But unfortunately for her child, a large plank of burning wood fell between them separating the two, but the farmer didn't hold back and dragged the mother out.
Once she was out of the house she begged him to let her save her child.
"We've got to go back! I need to save him!" She tried to break free from the farmer's hands as she heard her child's cries coming from the burning house. "No Yumi! It's too dangerous! and if we do, one of us and the child will end up dead!" He yelled. "No! I can't leave him behind!" she pulled at his arm, and struggled to escape the farmer's grip. "Please just–!" then she was abruptly cut off by the sound of the axe slicing through a villager's throat, causing the farmer to pull her away from the house and to the direction of the forest "We have to go, NOW!" She knew she couldn't leave her child behind, but it was already too late, so with the farmer, the two ran into the forest where the other villagers were told to go. She tried to keep her tears in, not wanting to get any Illager's attention as she heard her child's cry for help die out from the distance.
Meanwhile, the hero managed to take down almost the entire patrol, leaving the rest of the illagers to scram and retreat as the hero chased them down, Archie's parents stayed close as they tried to escape the slaughter, not wanting the other to get lost, but unfortunately, they were behind the rest of the patrol who left them, in the hands of the hero that wrote their fates.
Then it happened, one slash after the other, and the two fell, their blood stained the ground, the very ground they used to walk on now used as a bed for their lifeless bodies, the last thing they vividly remembered before they fell was Archie's voice, and then... It all went silent. And the hero left the area.
The villagers watched from the forest as their homes were burned to ash, and damaged so badly that it was going to be a hassle trying to build it back up. As they saw the farmer return they thanked for saving their lives, one of the villagers walked up to the farmer, then asked "Salah, what should we do? Our village was burned to ashes by those Illagers!"
The farmer then thought and remembered something, "my cousins have a village nearby north, it's settled on the Squid Coast, I'm sure they're willing to take us in after what had happened." The villagers had a small discussion before they agreed that they would live in his cousins’ village. Everybody saw this as a new opportunity to live in peace again, all except Yumi, who was devastated at the loss of her child, she was crying to the blacksmith Chandra, who managed to keep her sadness as bay as the villagers made a journey to the Squid Coast.
I had so much fun writing this fanfic I would really love to hear your thoughts on it!

An old ROTAI fanfic I wrote a long time ago about Thord surviving the event that happened between him and Archie in the Redstone mines.
(PS: I wrote this a long time ago and I have NOT finished reading ROTAI at that time)
For a short summary, Thord used a totem of undying during his betrayal and faked his own death, so Walda wouldn't be able to set him up against Archie again.
In the far future (After Archie was taken in by the heroes after freeing him from the Orb's control) Archie and the heroes had this mission to get rid of a supposed illager spy camp that settled close to a village. when the heroes arrived at the camp, Archie found out that the one who was in the camp was Thord, Archie manages to convince the heroes to leave this situation to himself. Once he faces Thord, Thord goes on to explain to Archie about what happened to him and the two made up in the end, and Thord eventually settled someplace else. I guess you could say this old fic was possibly a bit of a ship between Archie and reformed Thord inspired by another fanfic?
I want to know what you think of this, and if I should re-write this or not!
