(And because “Fiendish” is amazing, and Brenna’s work in “The Anatomy of Curiosity” was pretty damn fantastic. By which I mean really damn so, and as such I’m working my way through her oeuvre.)

I love this book. I’ve loved it since @brennayovanoff started writing it and I loved it as I was paging through it now. I’d love it even if I didn’t know Brenna. 

But I do and so I can ask for an advanced review copy to give away on the blog. I’ve sketched in it and now LET’S HAVE A CONTEST. “A Facebook user recently commented that the Eagles had “played like they were wearing tutus!!!” Our response: “With all due respect to the Eagles, let’s take a minute to look at what our tutu wearing women have done this month: By tomorrow afternoon, the ballerinas that wear tutus at Pennsylvania Ballet will have performed The Nutcracker 27 times in 21 days. Some of those women have performed the Snow scene and the Waltz of the Flowers without an understudy or second cast. No ‘second string’ to come in and spell them when they needed a break. When they have been sick they have come to the theater, put on make up and costume, smiled and performed. When they have felt an injury in the middle of a show there have been no injury timeouts. They have kept smiling, finished their job, bowed, left the stage, and then dealt with what hurts. Some of these tutu wearers have been tossed into a new position with only a moments notice. That’s like a cornerback being told at halftime that they’re going to play wide receiver for the second half, but they need to make sure that no one can tell they’ve never played wide receiver before. They have done all of this with such artistry and grace that audience after audience has clapped and cheered (no Boo Birds at the Academy) and the Philadelphia Inquirer has said this production looks “better than ever”. So no, the Eagles have not played like they were wearing tutus. If they had, Chip Kelly would still be a head coach and we’d all be looking forward to the playoffs.“ Happy New Year!”

clintasha/avengers hockey au

so after the homecoming game last night @plumsy and i were talking about a clintasha hockey au and then things got kind of out of hand SO here is a GIANT list of headcanons that i am going to hopefully one day draw all of:

clint and nat as rival hockey captains. lots of fighting. lots of flirting. lots of angry makeout sessions after the games

clint’s team captain and center for the Hawks, kate’s left wing. it’s terrifying when either of them has the puck because they basically never miss.

pepper is his right wing and tony gets pissed every time she gets a shot in his goal (which is usually every game)

sam and bucky are clint’s defensemen. bucky gets penalties all the time and grumpily sits in the penalty box. once he got upset and punched out the glass with his arm so tony had to make sure to reinforce it after that

sam is constantly shouting “on your left”. everyone hates him for it

steve is goalie for clint’s team. he full-body blushes every time he takes off his helmet and the crowd starts chanting “sexy goalie”. eventually sam starts joining in because. it’s true

peggy, wanda, pietro & scott are all alternates for clint’s team

clint’s fans supplement their cheers with ASL signs. there is a massive sea of purple in the audience. also pizza costumes

nat’s team captain of the Widows and is flanked by rhodey and maria on offense

bruce and carol are on defense. bruce is usually v. calm but when he gets angry he just goes around checking EVERYBODY

tony is goalie, he buys the latest equipment for the team and spends a lot of time trying to get the pep band to play ACDC

vision, t’challa, and sharon are alternates for the widows

fury coaches the Widows, coulson coaches the Hawks. thor is the enthusiastic announcer. loki drives the zamboni because ice

peter parker shows up in a spider costume as the Widows’ team mascot becuase he is enthusiastic about spiders. clint’s team couldn’t afford a mascot so they just let Lucky run around with cardboard wings taped to his back

once upon a time a game erupted into TOTAL CHAOS and a giant fight broke out and everyone on both sides got sent to the penalty box. it is forever after referred to as the ‘civil war’ match even though nobody rly likes to talk about it

Idris Elba Front-runner To Play Roland Deschain In ‘The Dark Tower’

“Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital may just have found their lead gunslinger for The Dark Tower, the Stephen King novel series set in a world woven with magic and revolving around the gunslinger Roland Deschain. 

I’m told that Idris Elba has emerged as the front-runner to play Deschain. He would square off against Matthew McConaughey, who’s in talks to play the villainous Man in Black. Nikolaj Arcel is directing…

Sony will distribute what is planned to be the first in a series of Dark Tower movies. A complementary TV series is also being developed by MRC….”

Vancouver Gothic

You arrive at the platform, just as the Millenium line train pulls away. The next two trains will be Expo lines. Two trains come and go. The next two trains will be Expo lines. The next two trains will always be Expo lines. You leave the platform to grab a coffee. You arrive at the platform just as the Millenium line train pulls away. 

It is raining. It is September and it is raining. It is January and it is raining. It is March and it is raining. It is raining. You remember sun. You remember it’s warmth on your face. It is May and it is raining. “I like the rain.” You whisper to yourself. “It keeps things green.” Someday you might believe it. It is June and it is raining. 

Your friends are doing the Grouse Grind. “Come with us,” they say, “it’ll be fun.” You smile and make your excuses. You will not see them again. The mountain takes what it wants. 

There is a rivalry between SFU and UBC. No one will say why. They laugh and say it is all in jest, but their eyes are haunted. They must choose a side, even if they never attended either school. It is all in jest. 

“We should go to the Art Gallery. Why haven’t we been yet?” You gather together, and go to the Art Gallery. You remember walking in. You remember walking out. You know that you paid. You do not remember what, only that it was valuable, and now it is lost to you forever. You do not know what you gained in the Art Gallery. You do not know what you lost.

You get on the N9 bus. It is late, and you are tired. You’re getting off at Coquitlam station. If you close your eyes now, you will have plenty of time before you get there. Sleep. It will be fine. 

It is August and the land is dry and parched. The ground cracks beneath your feet. The grass withers in the parks. The tide has retreated. The beaches are filled with people. “Isn’t this nice.” They say. “This is what summer should be like.” They say. “It’s so nice out.” They say. Their lips crack as they speak, and their skin seem to shrivel. You wonder if you will ever feel cool again.
