Cali looked down at the plate of toast and she suddenly did not have an appetite. She pushed it away, and turned to look at her mom. βI am actually not really that hungry at the moment.β The younger blonde uttered before picking up the bottle of water. She opened it and started to drink it. The cold water felt soothing to her warm body. βYou can have my toast and I can make you coffee if you want.β The girl said, placing the (now almost empty) bottle of water on the table. βI think I am just tired, I donβt think you need to miss work because, I am not sick.β

anytime JJ had to go on a case, Cali would wake up early and make breakfast for her mother. Of course there were occasions where Jennifer had to leave in the middle of nowhere without any warning and Cali would be left in the care of her babysitter, who had been with the girl since the beginning. Cali had grown close to her, however no one could replace her mother. JJ and Cali had a special bond, the girl was fond of her mother and strived to be like her.
Cali dreaded whenever JJ had to go off on a case, for time and time again, she did not know how long her mother would be gone. But at the end of the day, she knew her mother was saving lives and she admired Jennifer for it. Cali never wanted to miss her mother leaving for a case, and it was not like JJ would leave without saying goodbye, unless she was already in the office and there was nothing she could really do about it. Cooking breakfast for JJ before she left for a case became something she started to do eversince she turned eleven. It meant she got to spend a little extra time with her mother before she left.
today however, Cali abandoned her three year tradition. Her mind knew that JJ would be waking up to leave soon but the thirteen year old continued to lay in her bed, somewhat asleep. Her body hot as her head throbbed.
stirring slightly in her sleep, the youth let out a groan as she turned to her side and murmured something incoherent.

Cali offered a gentle smile in return. However as she heard her mother mention taking off work, the girl shook her head. βThe case is important and I really do not feel that bad, mom.β The teen uttered while standing up and taking the older blondeβs hand. Of course, Cali was downplaying how she felt, only because she did not want to stand in the way of her mother saving lives. βI think I just might need something in my system, like the toast and water that you mentioned.β She assured, as the youth began walking alongside her mother. Her treads slower than usual, but the teen did not feel dizzy, just tired.

Cali opened her eyes now and started to slowly sit back down on the bed. Her head continued to pound and her stomach felt unsettled. βWell, uh.β She had not really realized how ill she was feeling up until now. βMy head and my stomach hurt.β She told her mother, looking over at JJ. βBut not that bad.β She stated with a gentle tone for she did not want her mother to worry, especially since Jennifer had to leave for a case soon. βI felt fine last night before bed.β She uttered, leaning her back against the headboard of her bed.

The teen started to flutter her ocean hues awake as she heard her mother say, rise and shine. She brought her hands up to her eyes and started to rub them. βMom.β The girl muttered, while she started to sit up. βIβI overslept! I was supposed to make you breakfast. Iβm sorry! Are you leaving right now?β She uttered, ignoring the questions JJ had asked her. Concerned blue irises on her mother as the girl began to get up from her bed. βLet me at least make you coffee before you...β the youth paused as her vision began to blur. She put a hand on her forehead and closed her eyes, letting out a subconscious groan, feeling a little dizzy.

There are things we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't live without but have to let go.
