Tyler wasn’t necessarily following her, he had to walk in the same direction anyway. At first he had paid no attention to the person walking ahead of him, it was dark out after all. When the light from the moon finally let him get a better look at the person he thought it was Elena for a brief moment before getting a better look, there was no mistaken it was Katherine. Considering the possibility that she was up to something being 50/50 is when he decided to catch up to her. “What? A guy can’t walk home.”

The sharp click of Katherine's heels echoed against the empty streets as she approached the council building. Mystic Falls was eerily quiet tonight, the kind of quiet that felt oppressive rather than peaceful. The streetlights buzzed faintly, their orange glow flickering like they could barely hold themselves together. Fitting, she thought grimly. They matched her mood. And right now Katherine was in a bad mood... it was a bad day, a bad month... a bad fucking decade. Somehow her plans weren't exactly coming to fruition and it was frustrating her to no end.

And now this. Being human. Disgusting.

The cold air bit at her skin, and she pulled her coat tighter around herself, the human sensation of chill still foreign and unwelcome. It had been some time since the spell had rendered her mortal, and the novelty of vulnerability had long worn off. Every ache, every pang of hunger, every shiver reminded her of just how fragile she’d become. But Katherine Pierce wasn’t fragile. She refused to be.

She stopped in front of the council building, her eyes scanning the steps. The towering columns loomed over her like sentinels, and for a moment, she let herself feel small—just for a moment. Then the sound of footsteps broke the silence, and she instinctively stiffened, turning sharply toward the noise. Someone was there, stepping out of the shadows. Of course, there was. There was always someone lurking in this cursed town. Katherine’s heart skipped a beat—a genuine, human reaction she despised—and she clenched her fists to steady herself.

“Perfect,” she muttered under her breath, forcing her lips into a sardonic smile. She couldn’t let them see her falter, whoever they were. She straightened her posture, lifting her chin like the queen she still believed herself to be, even now. Her eyes swept over the figure, assessing. Stranger or not, friend or foe, it didn’t matter. She would handle it. She always did. But the weight pressing against her ribs, the hollow ache of her mortality, made her feel exposed in a way she hadn’t since... well, not in centuries. The person moved closer, and Katherine felt her pulse quicken—a sensation she was still getting used to. She curled her fingers into the fabric of her coat, masking the tremor with a haughty gesture as she folded her arms. “What?” she quipped, her voice sharp and dripping with derision. “Haven’t seen a girl out past curfew before?”

The snark came easily, a shield she didn’t even need to think about. Let them believe she was in control. Let them think she wasn’t just human, vulnerable, and out of her depth. But beneath the mask, Katherine felt the faintest pang of unease. She hated this. The nights were colder now, the shadows darker, and for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t the thing lurking in them. She watched the figure carefully, her sharp brown eyes revealing nothing but cool disdain. “Well?” she said, louder this time, her tone hard and impatient. She was Katherine Pierce. She would be damned if she let anyone—human, vampire, or otherwise—see her crumble.

“Yeah.” Lux nodded. “What happened? I’m just getting back into town.” He took another drink.

"Yeah, well it's not every day that the mayor died," he commented. At least people could drink for a while without sending themselves bankrupt.

“Seems that way.” Lux smiled. “You and Aunt Fraya are here too?”

"Well looks like the whole family is coming together," Keelin joked as she looked to her nephew. "Hello Lux."

Lux looked her over. “It smells you’ve had enough.” He wanted to ask her what the hell she was thinking, but she didn’t seem to be in any state to be interrogated. “Let’s get you home.”

Serenity smiled as she spun around and caught sight of her brother approaching. "I'm fine," she replied, meeting his gaze. She wasn't one to easily open up about her feelings, choosing instead to brush them off with a forced smile. "I just need a drink, then I'll be okay," she added, her thoughts already drifting towards the allure of another drink, despite the fact that she was already quite intoxicated.

“Uh, you know me. I come and go. Felt it was time to come visit.”

Cocking her head around, Hope looked toward her, older appearing, but younger brother. ❝ Lux, what brings you here? ❞

“Yeah, sorry.” Lux smiled softly. “Last minute decision really. It’s been awhile since I came home.”

Nico was walking home when he had to take a second look at the sight of Lux. "I didn't know you were coming home," Nico said as he walked over to his brother. He wasn't in a hurry to get home with the kids not being there that night.

Lux looked over at the woman. “Oh, um, that wasn’t my intention.” Was he being a bit dramatic? Maybe, but he wasn’t in the mood for sharing.

"A dramatic sigh and staring off into space. That's a very dramatic statement," Penelope commented, looking at the little Mikaelson.

“Hey.” Lux gave her a small smile. “Just thinking. Kind of crazy about Matt huh?”

Now was a time that Amelia would be seeing more of her family again, or more... ex-family. Lux was still like family to her, just because her and Nico didn't work out as a married couple didn't mean that she wouldn't have a bond with the Mikaelon's. ❝ A penny for your thoughts, Lux? ❞

Lux looked over at her and offered a small smile. “Yeah, it is.”

Riley had been doing her best to smile, to be the towns sun even if she didn't feel that way on the inside. Seeing the distant look she approached the male and tapped him on the shoulder. ❝ It's a beautiful night don't you think? ❞

Lux shrugged. “Probably not. It’s not like I was super close to him you know, I haven’t even been in town recently enough. Plus funerals… doesn’t sound like a great time.”

❝ Do you plan to attend little Lux. ❞ Kol questions cocking his head.

Lux was quick to regain his balance, the newish vampire abilities helped in that department. “No worries.”

Kassie wasn't exactly paying attention to where she was doing, where she was walking until she walked into a tall figure. ❝ Shit.. Sorry. ❞

“Um.” Lux looked around, a bit confused on if she was talking to him. “Hi.”

Brushing her blonde locks to the side as she thought she heard her name being called but was all part of her mind playing tricks with her. ❝ Hello? ❞

“Just wanted to see how you’re doing.” He offered a small smile. “Need some help?”

With the past month, Caroline had been doing her best to be strong and not let her emotions get the better of her so she did what she did best and kept herself busy. She was bringing some boxes out to her car when she looked up to the person. ❝ What? ❞

“Hi, mom.” Lux said with a smile, leaning into her a bit. Even when he wasn’t at home he always kept in touch with her. “Aw come on we didn’t drive you too crazy.” He grinned.

Cami walked towards her son, thankful to have her kids close to her. Cami was what most people called overbearing, however, she didn't care what they called her as long as she knew her kids were safe. "You know.." she spoke finding a seat next to her son. "Your Dad and I used to sit and watch the stars a lot..especially when we had stayed up all night when you were all driving us crazy." she spoke with a laugh.

Lux didn't like being back here. He was even more on edge here, home, than he had been in weeks. It was almost easy to forget that he was a vampire now, of course until his bloodlust kicked in. Being home, well it was only a matter of time before his friends and family found out he had triggered that part of himself. He sighed as he looked up at the sky, stars shinning bright above.
