Hi, I'm Jenna! 30s, she/her or whatever I'm not a cop I should have outgrown this hell site, but I haven't because it's the only place where I can disappear down a fandom rabbit hole and never return. Lolotr on ao3ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/lolotr

all of my friends are tired of hearing about it but the sheer galaxy brain of @sarahreesbrennan giving us a protagonist who:
is fundamentally, incontrovertibly convinced he's, at his core, unlovable
goes out of his way to be abrasive and off-putting to people so he can feel like they left because he made them and not because nobody would ever choose to be around him, and thinks of his own personality as terrible
gets laid constantly by people with high social standing and has every member we see of two separate species vying for his affections
believes there is no situation so bad he can't fix it through talking
Just a truly magnificent set of contradictory character attributes that the character is fully blind to the contradiction of.

one of my favourite things in in other lands is that elliot is such an unreliable narrator that you can really only tell on a reread. like sure, some of the things he says it's oh no boy you are definitely not comprehending something here (see Luke being upset for Unknown Reasons after elliot revealed that Adam tried to kiss him) but other things he presents so matter of factly that you really gotta look at what he's saying to see all the levels of bullshit going on
and this is majorly in part due to his massive amounts of self loathing

can we talk about Luke being so into Elliot he memorizes things Elliot says and quotes them verbatim? And Elliot just convinced this boy is not his friend let alone obsessed with his every word

tired: Aziraphale isn’t gay because he’s nonbinary
wired: Aziraphale IS gay because he’s still living in the 19th century and sees gender and sexuality as inextricably tied together
inspired: Aziraphale doesn’t know how to quantify his gayness when his partner keeps hoarding the genders and bouncing around them

Grief is so fucking wild. It sinks into your muscles, forces itself to be felt. It steals your appetite, floods your brain with cortisol. It makes you so, so tired.
If someone you know is grieving, telling them "just let me know what I can do" means nothing. They can't. They don't know. And the small things are too embarrassing to ask for.
Bring them a cheese platter. Pre-Cut fruit. Peanut butter pretzels. Protein shakes (like slimfast) Food that requires no prep and does not create dishes.
Do the dishes. Take out the trash. Sweep the floor. Vacuum the carpet. They won't ask you to do this, but it will help.
A bottle of acetaminophen honestly might help more than flowers. Grief really can cause muscle aches.

The fact that people don't think friendship is enough to justify characters doing insane acts of love for each other baffles me. Like have you never loved your friend so so much you want to live in their ribcage. Have you never been really weird about a friend. Have you never wanted to bite your friends parents or shove them down a staircase. Have you never wanted to be buried in the same grave as a friend. Have u never. How do u people live like this.

one of my most firmly held beliefs is there's no such thing as an inappropriate book for a kid and people try to debate me saying like buhhhhhh I shouldnt have been reading the things I did when I was a kid and it's like cool but did you die??? did anything bad happen to you?? or were you allowed to think about what you did and didn't know and walk away when something got too intense or whatever.

The fear of abandonment isn’t just about people leaving, it’s the gut-wrenching belief that you aren’t worth staying for.
#YES#people get mad at the person for thinking that of them#like 'how could you think I'd do that to you'#and while that's an understandable response it's not really getting to the heart of the matter#on the flip side#being the person with abandonment issues and thinking about it from the other person's perspective is a good way to start healing
