can’t believe they just let me choose adair to share a private room with rourke, then had rourke give a whole entire “I don’t know how I could ever return the favor” line (fanfic! trope! number! one!) and then hit me with a “it’s not because it’s my job, but because I care about you” kinda line??? oKAY.

Hey guys, how are you, I really love the art and style of this game, I am starting a project, I am wanna try to reach a project with a similar "quality", So I would like to know if it is posible, Which game engine are you using? and Which program are you using for animation and this particular and amazing pixel art. Thank you, cheers. I love the game :).
Thank you! Here are our answers, we hope it helps!
Game Engine
Long Gone Days is being built in Unity (which is free, but we are currently using the Plus license), but if you are the sole developer of your project and your strength isn’t coding, we would recommend using RPG Maker, so you only have to worry about eventing, the story, the battles (if there are any) and the art (if you want to use custom assets).
Personally, I (Camila) used RPG Maker MV (which is $79,99) for the 2016 prototype demo (here’s the trailer of that version) which was built in 4~5 months working full time, so it’s really easy to use! I wrote an article about choosing an engine with pros and cons here. If the price is out of your budget, there are older versions of RPG Maker that are great as well, like RPG Maker XP ($24,99). I don’t recommend RPG Maker VX or VX Ace though.
Graphic Assets
For pixel art and animations, we are using Aseprite (which is $14,99), which is great at handling tilesets and lots of different animations:
Tumblr media
It allows you to export spritesheets (you can choose the number of columns and rows you want) because making your own spritesheets manually is exhausting.
The little animations seen in-game that are not pixel art were animated in Unity, using its default animator.
Let us know if you have more questions!

Tumblr’s gonna kill the quality, I know it is.
Context: ever wonder why you get so many items in long gone days from vending machines? This is how it usually goes.

Hey, i just watched the Hostel scene with Adair, and i really liked it! It's really important if you asks me. The idea of Rourke wanting to give/do something for Adair as a way to say Thanks, and how Adair told him that he's not upset and how he doesn't need to feel guilty about all they did. I really needed that, an our boy too! It was a heart-to-heart talk, and how at the end was "After all, we're friends" Wow, i feel that, Jumping Jacks.
Aww, I thought it was a pretty wholesome scene too! It really shows the difference in attitudes from the start and how their relationship has evolved. I still can’t get over the fact that in Chapter One, Rourke had to sit next to Adair on the train and didn’t bother striking up a conversation until 15 hours had passed. And now, when Rourke asks to share a room with him for the night, Adair says, “Yeah, that’s probably for the best.” They go from being so prideful to becoming vulnerable in a very nice way. :P
I hope that we get to see more opportunities to hang out with our party members in Chapter 4 for sure!

Hi! I just finished the new chapters and I loved them! I wanted to ask about Coyle's scars if its not a spoiler (sorry english is not my first language). Thank you!
Hi there! We are really glad to hear that ♥!
Regarding Coyle’s scars on his face, it’s not really a spoiler. They are the product of an impact he got while he was wearing his safety goggles.

Hey I just wanna make a question. I love LGD, and sadly, i don't have the game, so i'm watching Gameplays so i can follow the story. Well, in the 2 chapter, where the gang arrives to the Hostel, Rourke has the option to share a room with someone of your choice. With the person who i was watching the gameplay, he chooses Lynn. But, i'm really curious to see the event with Adair. Since he's my fav character. Did u chosed him? What happened?
Hello, anon!
I’m glad you’re liking the game too! I definitely chose Adair first in the Hostel scene. I made sure to save beforehand so I could go back and choose everybody else. Since it was so easy to go back to my save point, I figured that instead of describing it to you, you could watch for yourself. I don’t have super high-quality recording software, but this video should suffice! I hope you’re able to get the game soon! ^^
Watch the Hostel scene with Adair at this streamable link! (5ptvg)

I always forget to upload sketches here, but here’s a bunch of doodles of Rourke and Adair from Long Gone Days ( @lgdays ) using different tools. The last one is digital, though.
Anyway, I can’t wait to release the new update next week (•̀o•́)ง

have you played chapter 2+3 yet? if so what did you think :eyes:
I just finished playing it all yesterday! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, music, and dialogue. Overall, it was a lot more enjoyable to me than expected, and I got through it a lot faster because I know a decent amount of German as opposed to having no clue what NPCs were talking about in Kaliningrad. :P I can read Cyrillic letters and pronounce them, but I don’t speak Russian. So this felt a lot more immersive to me personally!
I will most likely do another clean sweep through the new chapters as I have done before, once the dust settles and I have time for another review. I also have another LGD-related project in the works, but completion seems a looong ways away. I hope I can continue to work on it as the game develops!
Thank you for the question!

Next Update on July 25!
We are happy to announce that our next big story update is coming out next month!
On July 25th, the game will be automatically updated on Steam. Several changes and improvements were made to the first chapter, so we recommend playing it from the beginning, but otherwise, we’ll add an option to start directly from Chapter 2.
We’ll write a more detailed log on July 25, but here are some of the things included in this update:
PS4 and Xbox controllers are now supported
Rourke’s walking speed has been raised
Battles, equipment, items and rewards have been rebalanced
Ivan can now be used in battle
Lynn and Ivan’s portraits have been revamped (See here and here)
About 3~4 hours of new content (which means the game is now about 8 hours long)
More instances to get to know your party members
More narrative-focused sidequests
Lots of bug fixes that have been reported by our players
We also want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us with feedback using the Steam community forums and our Discord server, none of this would have been possible without you!
See you all next month!
As always, remember you can join our Discord, or follow us on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook for more frequent updates! And don’t forget Long Gone Days is currently 25% off on Steam and itchio.
Cheers, LGD Team
