There's a very important point I forgot to mention here: some Crescent Cultists did not join willingly.
Some were born into the cult, others were kidnapped at a young age and brainwashed, and sometimes even adults are brainwashed, blackmailed, or tricked into joining.
So, not every single cultist chose to join. There is a complicated aspect at play here when you account for those who were raised by cultists and never knew anything different.
How exactly does someone join the cult of the Crescent?
Good question! I think if you're the type of cruel, ruthless person the cult is looking for, you'll just kinda end up there without trying. The Cult of the Crescent has agents everywhere, hiding in plain sight, but they tend to congregate wherever nasty business is happening.
Wherever there is misery and suffering, the Crescent is never far away. Crime dens, riots, disaster zones, slaving and trafficking operations, battlefields, prisons...places like this attract bloodthirsty individuals and Crescent cultists. When the two meet, recruitments happen.
The cult likes to prey on angry, desperate people who have nothing left to lose. People who have no qualms about hurting others and making the world a worse place, people who have lost all hope in life itself. The cult empowers these people to take their anger out on the world and make everyone around them suffer.
Everyone is welcome to join the cult, no matter their species, age, sex, or any other circumstance. There is no discrimination here! But not all who join will thrive; many are filtered out by their own conscience as the cult pushes them to commit worse and worse atrocities.
However, one who takes that first step in may not simply back out, because initiation requires committing an act of terrorism in the Divine of Hate's name. Now you are an enemy of regular society. No kingdom will accept you, but the cult will...so long as you keep terrorizing society. If you refuse, the cult will terrorize you.
The bottom line is, it's best not to engage with these guys at all. If someone reveals themselves as a Crescent cultist, don't even fight, just get the hell away from them. Even the most elite of these guys are just slaves, forced to serve the Divine of Hate.
Everyone who has ever joined this cult regrets it, but they have no power to leave. They gave that up the moment they betrayed society.

I’d like to know alittle bit more about how roc reproduction and their lifecycle works? Exactly how big is a roc egg and how long do they incubate? How big and developed are roc chicks upon hatching and how long do they take to grow? What happens if a roc fails to find a mate, do they lay an unfertilized egg or just don’t lay an egg at all? Etc…?
How big a roc egg?
Roc eggs are the largest avian eggs on Looming Gaia. They’re about 3 feet tall and can weigh up to 100 pounds.
How long do the eggs incubate?
About 2-3 weeks. A female roc and her mate take turns guarding these eggs while the other hunts for food. Once the hatchlings are old enough to start wandering out of the nest, the male usually leaves and never returns.
How developed are roc hatchlings?
When baby rocs emerge from their eggs, they are covered in a fine gray fuzz. This fuzz is hard to see because their skin is also gray, but it can be felt and it's very soft. After a few weeks, they grow a coat of black downy feathers. At this stage they start to wander around outside the nest and hunt small animals. Over the next few months, their down turns into real feathers and their mother will teach them how to fly. Most rocs are flying at 6 months of age.
At this age, the rocs are much smaller than their mother, but still large enough to defend themselves against most predators in the desert. They start becoming territorial and aggressive towards their mother, prompting her to attack them and scare them away from the nest for good. They will then fly off and become independent.
How long do they take to grow?
At 6 months old, rocs are considered "juveniles". Juveniles are smaller than adults, but still quite independent and dangerous creatures. It takes 5 years for a roc to reach full size/maturity. Wild rocs tend to live for 20-50 years, but those in captivity can live to see 100.
They usually die from injuries, infections, starvation, bad weather, and fighting with other rocs.
What happens if a roc fails to find a mate?
Female rocs can only lay 3 eggs in their entire lifetime. Some lay just one every few years, while others lay them all at once. It's unknown what triggers this process, but rocs seem to sense when they're about to lay an egg a few weeks ahead of time. Their instincts drive them towards the Serkel Desert, where they will search for a mate to fertilize them. If they are not fertilized in time, they will lay a dud.

Did you know anthousai used to be...cute?!
Check out this ancient concept art from 2012 (left) compared to the final design (right). Just what the hell happened here?
I decided to take them in a more monstrous direction because lore-wise, the titan nymphs are meant to be a desperate maneuver by nature to defend itself from peoples. It made sense for nymphs to be beautiful because nature is beautiful. But nature has an ugly side too, and that ugliness tends to reveals itself when the ecosystem is out of balance.
Ultimately, I decided to reflect nature's beauty in the nymphs and nature's brutality in their titan forms. I think the change made them much more interesting.

If the order of love and light is women only then what about austerity
Actually the Order of Love and Light is not a women-only faction! All genders are welcome, though it does tend to be female-dominated. There are various reasons for this, but that's a whole new post on its own.
I'm just making an assumption here, but your confusion probably stems from the story "Dirty Animal"? I recall someone else asking a similar question after reading that story, so I'll just quickly explain that the Order of Love and Light is not female-exclusive, but it does have some temples that are segregated by sex. The reasons for this are mainly cultural and may differ based on what region they're in. Because females vastly outnumber males in this faction, it may appear that there are only female temples. In reality, there are also male temples, they are just less common.
In "Dirty Animal", a satyr named Itchy was being raised in a female-only temple. The priestesses made an exception for him because he was just a child. But as he got older, he started getting sexually mischievous and his behavior was causing issues with the women around him. Normally he would be transferred to a male-only or mixed-sex temple at that point, but in this case, the grand priestess just decided to kick him out of the faction entirely (for unique reasons that are explained later in the series).
All of this is to say, Austerity's sex has no effect on his status with the Order of Love and Light. Whether he was male or female, he is still an agent of Karenza.
However, it does effect the way he's treated if he were to visit a female-only temple. There are special rules he must follow while he's there, certain rooms he can't enter, etc. It doesn't matter that he was once female. Since he is male now, the male rules now apply to him.

I don't remember if I posted these or not, but I found some very early character concepts from 2011. The most interesting thing here is that Brogan briefly had a skullet! I guess I decided that he and Itchy looked too similar, because in the end I gave him more hair.

Silly question. Which of the guys would be interested in trying the “The Luther” from the boondocks? A full pound burger patty covered in cheese, grilled onions, 5 strips of bacon and two Krispy Kreme doughnut for buns?

Maybe I'm way off base here but I feel like Margan and Hestal would be friends. Have they ever met? Also have any of the other royal families met eachother?
Good question! I think if they were closer in age, Marghan and Hestal probably would be friends. But as it is, Marghan is a teenager and Hestal is middle-aged, so they can't really relate to eachother. Hestal just thinks Marghan's an annoying whippersnapper, and Marghan thinks Hestal is a boring old geezer.
Sanctoria isn't really allowed to have friends because her husband Oberon forbids it "for her own safety" (in reality, it's so she can't conspire against him with anyone...) But if she was allowed to hang out with Uzoma Matuzu, I feel like they would relate to eachother's struggles and be BFFs.
Azura Evangeline is a friend of the Matuzan royal family. Marghan has the hots for her, but she thinks he's an idiot and she's too old for him anyway.
Ekwame was apparently good friends with Yazid Matuzu, and by extension, Jelani is a friend of his too. Jelani also has a crush on Uzoma...but honestly, who doesn't?
Gultopp, Juvella, and Hethor all get along nicely whenever they meet for conferences. They all share similar values.
Almost all the leaders get along with Oberon and think he's a pleasant guy. Qara has to pretend she hates him for political reasons, but in reality, she's secretly having an affair with him.
Hethor hates Marghan's guts. She's not fond of his parents either, but she really, truly hates their snotty son and wants his ass dead.
No one really likes Indiga, Morgause, Serafeen, or Sovereign. They're too hostile, reserved, or just hard to get close to on a friendly level.
Titania and Oberon have a secret affair going on. Titania's attracted to Oberon sexually, but doesn't like him as a person, so they don't hang out much outside the bedroom.
No one respects poor Roz. They believe his kingdom is due to collapse any day now, so there's no point in networking with him. He's basically a loser in their eyes.
That's all I can think of at the moment!

Here's something kinda interesting...I found an old character concept from a random comic that never made it out of the planning stage, all the way back in 2011. This character's name was Leah, apparently.
But wait...she looks familiar...
Tumblr media
Hey! Her design got recycled into Elska! That's so weird, I don't even remember this project or anything about this character, yet some element of it still lives on through arguably the most popular characters in the LG series.

How’s this sound as an idea for a chimera monster? An amalgamate monster that adopts the attributes & abilities of animals it consumes, taking on a possibly infinite number of plausible forms depending on environment and local ecosystem. It was ofcourse created by a divine to act as bio-weapon but went rouge and became a number of terrifying monsters as they spread out and bred.
I really like that idea! Whenever I get around to making a chimera-inspired creature, I might take it in this direction if that's okay with you.
I imagine it retains some aspect of every creature it's ever consumed, and over time these aspects just build up. Eventually the chimera becomes a total clusterfuck of random body parts and abilities. Maybe this is its main weakness, and eventually it leads to its demise as the parts become too burdensome.

kid-az Being an Ogre would mean frolicking around the forest without any fear of anyone ever bringing harm to me, and being able to do whatever I want! And by whatever I want I of course mean bathing in a river and eating bee hives.
This is so true! Ogres are often looked down upon as "big violent brutes". But this scary image also gives them freedoms that other species don't have, simply because...well, who the hell is going to stop them? They'll slap a bitch into orbit.
See an ogre chowing down on bee hives at the park? Sure it's illegal, but are you going to be the one to say something?
Didn't think so.

yuppe to be fair though, many real life animals sometimes seem like they're actively TRYING to die. Some fish species come to mind.
Poffles are like the pandas of Looming Gaia...people try so hard to prevent their extinction, but those MFs blatantly reject life at every turn.

razzek Hahaha the meme pic is killing me! XD I'm 'such a big gross fan of your work and Mr. Ocean's story has always been a fave. Poor guy still carrying on a thousand years later, trying to hide from a loss that will always be part of him. I hope they reunite somehow someday, if it's even possible.
You're a treasure, Razz! You're one of the OG Looming Gaia fans, not to mention an amazingly talented artist, and I'm so proud to have you on board. B)
I've always used Mr. Ocean to express the concept of long-term grief and how it can lead someone down a path of self destruction, even ages after the trauma occurred.
For most people, grief fades with time and they move on. But there are also people who, for whatever reason, struggle to move past their grief and it ends up consuming them, completely changing who they are well into old age.
Mr. Ocean is over a thousand years old; he's outlived many, many friends and loved ones. But his relationship with Solveig made such a deep impression on him that he can't seem to function without her, even centuries after her death. He yearns for a time, a place, and a life with her that is never coming back, and he just can't stop fixating on it.
Since the events of "Troubled Tides", he's made some progress building a new life for himself that he can enjoy, one that he doesn't try to escape with drugs. It may not be exactly like his life with Solveig, but he does have love and true friendship once more, and that's all he's ever really wanted.
In a world like Looming Gaia, anything is possible. I think he could very well reunite with Solveig someday, in some form. In the meantime, he's adjusting to a new chapter in his life and trying to make it one worth remembering.
