Beautiful Strangers

Elain runs into a new friend on the sidewalk… literally

Okay soooo this is my first ever fan-fiction, It’s not very long, but I hope you guys enjoy. 

Part 2

“Ouch” Someone had just walked smack into me on the sidewalk. Although I have to say it could have been me running into the poor stranger, because I was too busy trying to text my overprotective sisters back.

“I’m so sorry!” came out of the stranger’s mouth so softly I almost didn’t catch it.

As my eyes slowly rose to theirs I started to say “it’s quite alrig….” But the words got caught in my throat because standing before me was the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on. I was so focused on the swirls of brown and flecks of gold in his hazel eyes that I almost didn’t hear the hitch in his breath when he really looked at me.  

I could feel the heat rise on my cheeks as his soft gaze roamed down my body and then back up in a slow caress. I was currently wishing that I would have worn something a little nicer that day considering I was just wearing: a black t-shirt with a red rose on it, my favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans, black and white low top converses, and my light brown hair was pulled back into a low ponytail. I don’t think he realized he was staring, because after a moment he shook his head slightly, like he was trying to refocus himself, as he stuck a scarred hand out to me and proceeded to speak with such a quiet voice that felt like velvet to my ears.

“I apologize for running into you I should have been watching where I was going.” As an afterthought he added, “My name is Azriel, by the way.”

It took me a second to answer because I couldn’t take my eyes off of him long enough to focus. He had to be at least six foot two with hair as black as the night sky itself. Oh Cauldron, this man had to work out at least four times a day to have muscles like that. You could see the ripples under the white V-neck shirt and black jeans he had on as he moved his arms to his side… He looked like he could be an MMA fighter for goodness sake, and the biggest question I had was, what had happened to this beautiful stranger to cause his hands to look like that?

When I finally came to my senses and realized I was the one staring, I panicked because he had been waiting to hear my name.

“OH! I’m Elain,” I managed to choke out, the heat on my face felt like an inferno now.

The man, Azriel, actually had the freaking nerve to smirk at my discomfort. Who did he think he was, we had just met and he was already laughing at me…

We were just standing there gazing at each other when he broke the silence “Would you like to grab a coffee with me?” I saw his smirk fade into a frown as he went on, “unless you have somewhere to be, then I totally understand, and I don’t want to keep you from anything, by the Cauldron you’re probably on your way to meet someone right now…”

He was still rambling when I cut him off quickly.  “Coffee sounds great.” I started to grin as I saw his eyes light up and a smile tug at the corner of his lips.

When we went for coffee, the conversations flowed easily and nonstop. We talked about anything and everything, from the flower shop I work at, to yes… his workout regimen because I couldn’t help but ask. As it turns out he ran a security company that his brother–Rhys he had called him–owned, and indeed needed to stay in shape. By the time he stood and said that he needed to be going with a sad look in his eye, I felt like I had known this man my whole life, but also like he was an incredible mystery.

“I would like to see you again Elain, if that’s okay”

“I think I would like that too” and as I said it there it was again, that insufferable smirk that made heat flow to places that I knew spelled trouble.

We swapped phones to exchange numbers, and as our fingers brushed, it sent a spark of electricity through me that I knew he felt too, judging by the fire in his eyes.

Then he was leaning toward me and in that moment I knew that if this new, mysterious man kissed me I wouldn’t stop him. I’ve always been quiet and reserved. The “goody-two-shoes” as my sisters called me, but something about Azriel made me want to be reckless and I liked it.

I was oddly disappointed when his lips brushed softly against my cheek instead of my lips, but I felt that heat again when he whispered quietly into my ear, “I’ll see you soon,”

Saying it with such certainty that I knew that, yes, I would be seeing him soon. And I couldn’t wait.

He turned to walk away back into the crowd, and as he disappeared, I knew that one way or another that beautiful man, Azriel, was going to change my life.

This scene at the end of Kingdom of Ash made me cry so bad because you realised how far they had come. From a competition between assassins and thieves to fighting and winning a war to save the world. It also made me realise how far I had come from a 7 year old who honestly had no clue what was going on and knew no hardships to the person who I am today. In the time so much has changed. I have changed into a completely different person and when I read this scene I saw that so clearly. These books were with me throughout some of the hardest times of my life and I am the person I am today because of how these books have shaped me. I cried at this scene because that stage of my life was coming to an end 8 years after I first met that assassin in Endovior.
