Day 6: Candy

Xaolin won.

Just before class restarts, Xaolin follows Wooju to his classroom and places a bag on his desk.

Wooju: What's this for? You won, not me.

Xaolin: Well for one, I don't like chocolate that much. And two, I know you let me win. I could see you were pretending not to know the answers. I know that much but I don't know why yet. Anyway, half the prize is yours.

Wooju: Well, honestly it was to mess with Siwoo. He gets too competitive sometimes so I like to mess with him. You didn't have to give me the prize though.

Xaolin: I did. It's about the principal. Besides, now I know something else you're good at.

Day 7: Letters Texts

Thanks to Siwoo's encouragement, Wooju and Xaolin have been messaging each other all weekend.

Day 5: Self Love

The night, despite his reservations, proved to be a very lovely one. After his shower, Wooju immediately plops on his bed, feeling his heart still beating so hard within him. So this is what it felt like. To like someone...

Siwoo: So did you have fun?

Wooju: Mmm

Siwoo: Don't give me that; I saw you smiling. Xoamei's friend is cool, right?

Wooju: Yeah, she's nice.

Siwoo: Just nice? You've got to do better than that. Didn't you get her number?

Wooju: Yes.

Siwoo: So when are you gonna text her?

Wooju: I don't think I should.

Siwoo: What?! Why not? She clearly liked you.

Wooju: She shouldn't get involved with me. It's a waste of time.

Siwoo: What is that supposed to mean?

Wooju: *slightly irritated* Don't be dense Siwoo *Sitting up and shedding his disguise* Have you forgotten what I look like already?

Siwoo: Never *teasingly flicking his ear* You haunt my dreams. But is that supposed to mean you shouldn't date ever?

Wooju: What right do I have to that? Love is a human emotion, it's not something for someone like me to get involved in.

Siwoo: *rolling his eyes* There you go with that self-deprecating talk again. Woo, you've been on Earth your entire life. You're different yes but there's no need to isolate yourself in the only world you know just because of it. Love isn't just for human people. Animals love each in every species. You're allowed to love. You're also allowed to let others love you.

Wooju: I just-

Siwoo: Don't worry about someone not accepting you. If they love you, they will. I'm certain there's someone out there who will, just like I love you dude.

Siwoo: *Forcefully pulling him into a hug* Now I don't want to hear this kind of talk again until you actually go out there and get your heartbroken

Wooju: *Trying to get out of his grasp* Siwoo, let go

Siwoo: Not until you promise you'll give the whole "love thing" a try.

Wooju: Fine. I promise. I'll text her tomorrow.

If you @aliengirl wanted to see Wooju's alien form. Also for a little more context that I'll explain later; Siwoo and Wooju are foster brothers and best friends. Wooju knows his mother but she's blatant about her disdain of him since he was born alien. That's why he has a very poor view of love.

Day 4: Teddy Bear Shark

As the night continues, the group hop from game to game, until they come upon a stall that has a beautiful shark plush Xaolin, try as she may, obviously can't keep her eyes off of. Unfortunately, she has very little luck winning.

Siwoo: Why don't you let Wooju give it a try. He's really good at those things.

Wooju: I'm not that good...you just have bad eyesight.

Xaolin: *shyly holds the ball out to him* Well, can you at least try?

Hesitantly, Wooju takes the ball and takes his shot, knocking all the cans over in one go. As the game master goes to retrieve the shark Xaolin wants, Wooju turns back to see the wide grin on her face and can't help but feel excited himself.

Xaolin: Thanks again for the shark.

Wooju: Of course, those games are like the only thing I'm good at so..

Xaolin: You're far better than me...maybe I'll have to call on you again next time...Oh i-if it's ok with you.

Wooju: Yes. I'd like that.

Xaolin: *Shyly smiles behind the shark* Um..then can I have your number?

There goes his heart thumping again.

Day 3: Date Night

Siwoo begged Wooju to come out on a double date with him. What a pleasant surprise to see that girl from the restaurant again. Though Wooju reluctant to come along at first, they all had a good time.

Day 2: Hug

Talk Show Host: You have such a lovely family, truly. I have all girls myself and let me tell you they can be a handful sometimes.

Aphrodite: Don't let that picture fool you, my girls are a handful too when they want to be. I mean they are teenagers after all.

Host: Really? You must discipline them well then because there's never been a single scandal about it. How do you manage that?

Aphrodite: Well it's simple. Just as I tell all my clients, my husband and I are a team. We work together in managing our problems (which are sometimes our children). When they see such a strong united front, they can't help but respect that. We never have to scare them or hurt them because we always have everything under control. That's why I say "A partner should be against the problem, not against you."

Host: Those are some words to live by.

Aphrodite: Truly. I am grateful to have married such a kind gentleman who understands that.

Back at home, food is scattered on the floor of the kitchen, mostly at the feet of the middle daughter, Xaolin. The fact that their stepfather, Ricardo, had had an unpleasant day at work coupled with Xaolin's repeated mistakes when trying to make dinner, spelled trouble for her.

Ricardo: Why are you so useless?!! You can't even follow instructions properly?

Xaolin: *Sitting on the floor trying not to cry* I'm sorry I just-

Ricardo: Just nothing. If I had known you were so stupid, I'd told your mother to drop you off with your father.

Xaolin: I'm sorry...

Ricardo: Whatever, just clean this up and go get us something for dinner. Lihua, you go with her.

Lihua: Why do I have to go?

Ricardo: Because I said so. *Turning back to Xaolin* and clean yourself up too. I don't want people to think you're some neglected child.

Xaolin quickly wipes her face and begins to gather the wasted food as Ricardo and Lihua leave the room. As soon as they're gone, Charlie helps her up, pulls her into a hug, and wipes her face again.

Charlie: Are you ok?

Xoalin: Yeah, I messed up the food again...I should've been more careful. I have to-

Charlie: I'll do it. You should go clean up.

Xaolin: but-

Charlie: I said, I've got it. You should go before Lihua leaves without you.

Xaolin finally nods and hugs her tightly one more time.

Once again, I know this is meant to be a cute wholesome challenge and I promise the story will end happily and there'll be lots of happy warm moments. This is only the setup. Also because the abusive household is only the background, I will not be showing you the physical abuse as it happens, it will only be mentioned. I understand if you don't want to read it because of that but I do hope you give it a chance.

Siwoo: You know you're going on nineteen and I've never once seen you even look at someone romantically. Don't you think that's a little weird?

Wooju: Weird as opposed to what exactly, being half human?

Siwoo: You know what I mean.

Wooju: Barely *rolling his eyes and standing up from the table* I'm going to the bathroom.

Before Siwoo could say anything, Wooju hurries off. He's had that conversation with his best friend more times than he can count, especially since Siwoo had recently started dating his childhood friend. It was out of concern (probably). He wanted Wooju to be happy like him; he could understand that. Such a sentiment wasn't possible for someone like him though. Nothing and no one could feel that way about someone like him. That was something the ever-romantic Siwoo clearly couldn't understand. As he rounds the corner, (lost in his own thoughts) he immediately bumps into someone, knocking them to the floor.

Wooju quickly scrambles to his feet to help the girl up.

And as their hands touched and he looked into her eyes, for the first time in his life, Wooju felt something. The deep drumming of his own heart.

Day 1: Heart

Because I love Valentine's and just holidays in general and I really wanted to write something, I decided to turn @aliengirl February challenge into a short story. It is about an alien boy with doubts of love and a human girl with a warped sense of love... well... falling in love. I apologize because I know it's meant to be a cute and sweet challenge but it will have angst with a happy ending.
