Kona had her first hike today! Hikes are great for sniffaris/decompression walks as well as for exposure for dogs like Kona who didn't have the proper exposure during her very spongy puppy stage. Thanks to a few months of foundation work at her home and neighborhood it made her ready to go on outings such as a hike! Millie is 6 months old now and already a bit over 50lbs! Nutrition is very important for all living beings. Humans and animals alike. Bad nutrition for both of us can lead to health issues both physically and mentally. Zorro (5), Justice(10), and Daisy(15) all have different diets and supplements. Some dogs can eat roughly the same thing and some can't. That is fine! Feed what helps your dog thrive. If your dog thrives on a certain brand of kibble then feed kibble! If wet food works for you then great! Or maybe a premade raw/cooked works better for your pup. Whatever your dog thrives on and is affordable to you then stick to it. Zorro is doing great with a mixture of kibble, a topper, raw nuggests, and goats milk. Justice is doing great with a gently cooked premade, goats milk, a topper for breakfast and a dehydrated cooked food for dinner. Daisy is thriving on kibble, goats milk, and a topper. They all get safe fresh food throughout the week. Don't feel ashamed or pressured that you have to feed your dog X due to something someone told you if you 1) truly can't afford it and 2) your dog doesn't thrive on it. Thriving on food generally looks like a shiny coat, smooth non-irritared skin, bright eyes, the dog has the energy etc. P.s if you choose to make your own raw or cooked food for your dog PLEASE reach out to a professional who will formulate the food for you based on your dogs weight goal, age, breed, and health concerns. Duke and Vedder enjoyed their nature walks. Duke, the #aussiedoodle gets over stimulated easily and has a hard time recovering (calming down). Today's trail was empty which meant Duke could enjoy the walk a lot more which made me happy. Vedder, the #bernedoodle enjoyed his walk as well. Even though within the first 5 mins he found poop to roll in and was a stinky boy the rest of the trip. Stinky but, happy. At Maddi and Paws the nature walk service is a decompression walk/sniffari for your pups! This is where they can follow their noses, roll in questionable things, mark lots of trees, and overall be a dog. Behavior modification is a process and one that can take some time. Some behavior modification plans can take several weeks, months, or years depending on the learner and the situation. Behavior modification is NOT a linear (a nearly straight line) but, a zigzag line that is overall going up. A proper behavior modification goes at the learner's pace. Sets the learner up for success by managing/altering the environment of the learner. During this process you as the Guardian and your trainer/coach are there to guide your companion animal and provide the learner with the skills (and sometimes the medication) to handle the situations it struggles with. There's so much that goes into a behavior modification plan so don't get discouraged if you end up hitting a plateau or you take a couple steps back. It is a process and will have some bumps along the road. If your behavior modification plan truly seems to be failing then set up a consultation with a certified, professional dog trainer/coach. They can access the situation and your current plan and see if there needs to be any tweaking to the plan.
