Who's this in the sidewalk crack?
why, it's Bryum argenteum!
This is one of the most common species of moss, with a cosmopolitan distribution. Meaning it occurs globally, in this case including Antarctica! You'll find this species most frequently in sidewalk cracks and around the places humans have built things.
Its highly recognizable with its frequent bluish (or blue-green) colouration!

Grimmia sp.
On a gravestone!
Graveyards, especially old graveyards, are one of the best locations to look for bryophytes and lichens. The lack of major soil disturbance combined with a yard full of different types of rock leads to some surprising diversity!

scaled bat wings
something is wrong with me, i've never wanted to breathe so bad, to open my chest and snap my hardened ribs, and let moss consume the hollow expanse and maybe something else can breathe for me.
why does it feel so safe in a cage, built for nobody except a fool running from bravery?
when butterflies turn into bats I stare on in envy because even a bat could fit through the bars and fly home.
my fragile scaled wings won't harden into leather, and my hands keep holding on to nothing.
the air behind my eyes is cold, there's nothing left.
let me be a gentle ghost with no more walls in my way.
i'll glue my ribs back together, and keep one piece in my pocket for good luck and maybe, one day i'll finally carve that fragmented piece of bone into a dagger and cut through this endless veil woven by my mind.
for now, i pace around my cage and watch the butterflies and bats merge into one, beautiful and untouchable.
i wish it were me.
