Because I love this scene so much, I decided to whip up some alternative versions including text! Thank you again so much @klfoxartcommissioner for commissioning this piece and encouraging me to play around with the composition a bit!
Yet another reason I am helplessly brooding over the Gender-Weird Honor-Bound Whatever between Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth is that each imagines the other as redeeming the worst wounds of their own past. They haven't admitted attraction (much less love) to themselves, and yet here they are. With her aid, he will keep his oaths; having been saved by her, he dreams of being remembered for justice. Meanwhile, she imagines him saving her from the humiliations of the past, the dangers and sorrows of the present. Worse (better) and more, each of them is actively working towards what they don't know is the other's deepest desire. Even at risk of her own life, she will defend his honor; he will defend hers, even if it imperils everything else he fights for. I need to lie down on the floor.
