Currently thinking about how Orpheus's "A man in love with a woman" line in broadway's Epic III has such a deep meaning:
He gets refered to as a ‘poor/naive boy’ from the very beginning, so him calling himself a man to Hades’s face only shows how much he has grown: this is after 'If it’s true’, so Orpheus had already started to have that seed of doubt that will be shown so well in 'Promises’, in contrast to a now hopeful and optimistic Eurydice.
But let’s get back to Hades for now. After all, he’s the one introducing a new nickname for our poet, “young man”. Obviously used in a derogatory fashion, he keeps his distance from Orpheus by making him somewhat lesser than himself. To drive this point, just before Epic III Hades calls himself an old man, further setting the boundary between the two. Orpheus saying that they’re both men in love with women shows once again his bravery and growth; not only is it a 'hey maybe we’re not that different’, it’s 'we’re both no more than beings in love, flawed and trying their best through trial and error and many, many mistakes’ and most importantly, 'we’re equal’. He stands up for himself after being figuratively and literally knocked down to the ground, having experienced life’s (and death’s) worst sides.
Not only does Orpheus 'elevate’ himself by saying that, but he also breaks Hades down to his core: a man who fell in love with a woman so madly he’d be willing to do anything, maybe in spite of himself by feeling so vulnerable and so human, in all their foolishness and frail. I mean, think about how Hades has been described in the show before “almighty/king of shadows/darkness”, you know the drill. Even when he gets described as a man, it’s still surrounded by a feeling of power, dignity, and even fear and intimidation: whether it’d be in the character’s tone, or in the lyrics (for example, in 'Way down Hadestown’, “It’s the same man they’ve been singing about”: the delivery only emphasizes the importance and highness of Hades, and how well respected he is). So coming back: calling Hades a man, stripped of any epithets (like he used to call him in previous epics, or at the beginning of this one), stripped of the divinity and power he holds is something so simple. Yet, it works, and strikes the most precise and vulnerable of points: how gods aren’t less flawed than humans, because despite not being human they’re people: and when they’re in love, then just like humans, they can do things they might think they are incapable of.
This idea is of course explored throughout the rest of Epic III, explaining how Hades fell in love with Persephone before he had anything to offer her, except for his love and his song. It really starts of with 'he started to sing’, but I believe this line is what is the beginning of this theme.
This is not to start a comparison between the broadway and NY live album, but I believe this lyrics is one of the strongest in the whole song, considering both versions.

a very very old man saying to a literal child that he'll eventually be with the girl he loves because he is mortal and will die anyways is so pathetic because it means he accepts that there is no other way the girl'd choose him. the girl would only consider choosing him because she is alone and her true love is gone and won't come back. he admits that he can't erase the boy from her heart, only death and pain will do it -which is doubtful. he admits that he can't beat him and his love for her as long as he is alive and there. he admits that he can't compete with the boy, although he himself looks down on the boy because he has nothing, isn't powerful like him. it's just pathetic.

the fact that some people are mad about rule of wolves because leigh didn't redeem the darkling or give him a merciful ending but instead focused on the women he abused and how they acknowledged, processed and healed from the trauma he caused them is so wild to me
