"Where's Mama? Look over there chibi! There she is!"

I did this as a quick sketch for @brain-rot-hour because they'd had a hard day. I'm sure she'd be happy to share with anyone else who requires an oxytocin hit from baby snuggles. Maybe I'll write a little something to go with it.

Number 1 in Japan!

Some time ago, possibly last year, but who can tell in these trying times, @brain-rot-hour and I said that we would do an art exchange, with a whenever we got around to it time limit.

@brain-rot-hour let me present your son. He obviously deserves a treat - Number 1 Ramen in Japan. How could you not buy him at least a dozen. He will carry them all home for you, but will require extra ramen in payment. In advance.

I very rarely use the round brush, but made myself use it on this art and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I'll eventually get to the point where I can do art with it that doesn't take eleventy billion years.

Sir Orrin Does a Good Deed

I couldn't let the Lunar New Year pass by without drawing some sort of dragon. So you get one of my favourites - baby Gorbash from Flight of Dragons.

I adored this movie growing up - we used to rent it from Blockbuster all the time, and when they were getting rid of all their older VHS copies, my Dad bought it for me because he was tired of hiring it. And I may have had the teeniest crush on Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe. I gave his armour a bit of an upgrade for this art, with inspiration from the amazing armour on Armstreet.

Summer

A warm up sketch. Sitting in front of the fan in my bedroom because it is so muggy and hot here today. Can't wait for Autumn.

So, when @dawnrider shared a teasing snippet from Chapter 4 of Dapper Dog the other day, the cheese toasties and Italian cream sodas sounded so delicious, that I had to draw them. Along with the two clueless lovebirds eating them of course. After I'd finished, all I wanted to eat was cheese toasties!

And Italian cream sodas is not a thing we do in Australia. If you order an Italian soda here, you get a little bottle of Aranciata Rossa, Aranciata, Chinotto or Limonata. We're more likely to serve a 'spider' which I think is called a 'float' in the US, with ice-cream and regular soft drink (soda in the US). So I'm going to buy myself some Italian fruit syrup and try making some - they look delicious!

Why buy two sets of Christmas pj's when you can share?

Inuyasha Manga Ch. 46 Empty Shell (Urasue Arc)

One last redraw to finish off the year! I will be the first to admit that I am not great at drawing any kind of machinery, and Kagome's bike falls into that category. It looks like I bike I guess. And behold, an actual background. The best part of sketching this was drawing Inu's grumpy face.

I might try and do at least one Christmas/New Year piece of art or writing before the year is out - I only have Christmas and Boxing Day off, so we'll see.

"Kagome don't."

"But I can save you, I know I can. Just hold still, I just have to heal you enough so you'll be fine when the sun rises."

"Can't let you do that. You'll be too weak. Need to run now, before Tsubaki and Naraku break through Tessaiga's shield."

"Inuyasha, do you think so little of me, that I could leave now when you need me most?"

"Always need you. But that's why I need to let you go. Because you - you were my new dream."

"And you were mine."

A Tangled AU, where Inuyasha is a feudal mercenary, and Kagome is a powerful miko, kidnapped as a small child from her loving parents by Naraku, a warlord who wants to keep her healing spiritual powers for himself.

"Inuyasha, I'm cold."

"I'm not fuckin' surprised", he snarled, trying to move her closer to his body. Any closer and she'd actually be sitting in his lap, which normally he'd be feeling some mighty strong feelings about, but right now his strong feelings weren't the happy kind. He'd already removed her sodden shoes and socks, but before she could get changed into some drier clothes they needed the fire going.

Shippo and Kirara were doing their best with damp kindling and an even damper cave, while Sango sorted through Kagome's backpack for dry clothes and medical supplies. Thankfully, no one else had been injured during their battle against the boar youkai.

Just Kagome.

For once, Miroku was keeping his trap shut, understanding that now was not the time for teasing. After one glare from Inuyasha as he had pulled the shivering Kagome close to his body, he had busied himself by walking further down into the cave to make sure it contained no more unwanted surprises with pointed teeth and a large appetite for shikon shards. Thank goodness for small mercies.

"You're angry at me, aren't you", Kagome whispered. It didn't sound like a question.

"Whatever gave you that idea?" he muttered, rubbing her back gently as she shivered against him.

"Oh, I don't know. The growling maybe. Your shoulders feel like rocks you're so tense."

Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

"I'm not angry at you, I'm angry near you. There's a difference."

"It doesn't feel like a difference", she said in a small voice. "Why won't look at me?"

Inuyasha pointedly kept his face turned aside and she sighed, tugging on his sleeve.

"Hey. I didn't know that bit of hill was going to give way."

That earned another growl. He almost looked at her, then turned his face away again.

"Why do you think I put you and Shippou over near the trees Kagome! You're the one who's meant to be smart with all that reading you do. Even you should have been able to tell it was unstable with all this rain!"

She tugged on his sleeve again.

"I couldn't get a good shot from where I was, so I moved to a better spot. And I took him out too! Before I fell I mean. But I helped! And we got another shikon shard!"

"For fuck's sake Kagome, you could of been really hurt!"

"But I wasn't."

"You've taken half the skin off your face! And your leg and your arm!"

"It'll grow back. Sango'll help bandage it up and it'll be good as new in a week or two - you won't even be able to tell it was there at all. And because I ended up in the river, it's washed all the dirt away, see? I'm just a bit cold, but I'll warm up. Inuyasha? Please? I don't know why you're so upset."

He growled again; she could see him biting the inside of his cheek as he stared out into the heavy rain outside the cave.

"Inuyasha, look at me. Please?"

Grudgingly he turned his head. She could see the concern in his eyes, the worry, the self blame, even though none of her injuries were remotely his fault. She tried to smile, but had another attack of the shivers.

He sighed, rubbing her back again. He tucked a long dripping lock of her hair behind her ear.

"You look like a sad wet cat."

"I kinda feel like one", she smiled, and then hissed, because smiling actually hurt quite a lot right now.

"A sad wet stupid cat with mush for brains", he sighed again, using his palm to turn her head gently so her uninjured cheek rested on his chest. "What am I gonna do with you?"

"Help keep me warm?" she shivered, wrapping her cold arms tight around his chest.

He rested his cheek on the top of her head, and she smiled, even though it hurt, and then giggled. She could feel his grumbles rumbling against her body as he pressed her even tighter against him.

"I guess I can do that. But you're grounded."

"What? How do you even know what that means?"

"I know plenty. And you're grounded. No more stupid heroics from you, or I'm taking away your keeping warm privileges."

"You wouldn't!"

"Watch me."

Inu-spiration Halloween 2023

Happy Halloween! Once again I was paired with the amazing @elkonigin for an Inu-spiration project, who is always a delight to work with.

I sent her a scribble, she sent me lots of words - more than I deserved really, so I did more scribbles, and she sent me a lot more words. Together we've come up with quite a delicious story - a canon verse inukag tale that I am sure you're going to enjoy getting your teeth into.

This was the first image I sent, which the whole story was based on. I liked the idea of a battle scene where both Kagome and Inuyasha had to work together. The original sketch was slightly different - the oni has become a lot more streamlined, and there's more elements that feature in the story incorporated into the art. It was fun coming up with some original characters to draw!

There's four more images to come, because every time I'm paired with a writer, I just can't help getting excited about how the story is going and doing more sketches.

The reef shark and the pilot fish, a love story.

So, I started this sketch last year for MerMay and never finished it. I'm not entirely happy with it, and I can't quite remember where I was going with it, but it's done.

A pilot fish will stick with a reef shark, following it wherever it goes, for the length of it's life. The reef shark protects it, and the pilot fish cares for the reef shark, keeping it clean and healthy.

If merman Inuyasha set off on a grand adventure, I'm sure his pretty pilot fish Kagome would want to stay close to his side, no matter then danger.
