March 28. Taleed El-Sabawi, JD, PhD writes: "Jordan should be trending right now. Protests have been blocking traffic; men have flooded the streets in such large numbers that even the repressive military force in Jordan can’t beat them into submission (something they frequently do); Protesters are chanting for Jordan to open its borders so they can march to Al-Aqsa. The political unrest in Jordan has been at a boiling point for years now.
High rates of unemployment particularly among young men; significant inflation; high housing costs; low wages; skyrocketing gas prices, electricity, groceries…hardly any industry. Repressive import taxes.
And a monarchy that pockets millions of US government aid in exchange for US military access. The monarchy is now holding on by a thread.
Expect the Jordanian forces to increase their violence against protestors. Expect the U.S. to send in reinforcements in some shape or form—If the monarchy falls, it will not be a U.S. co-opted government that will organically take its place. It will not be an Israel friendly government. Expect the U.S. to meddle as they always have & to do everything they can to keep the monarchy in place.
Even a UN Ceasefire isn’t enough to make Israel ceasefire or the U.S. to call for Israel to ceasefire. The calculus has changed. The people are reminded yet again how the governments of the world have failed them. Expect more of this around the world.
Every time there are protests in Jordan, I call my family in Amman to get a sense of how serious it is, because my grandparents are in Amman. Since October, every time I call they have brushed it off as young men being young men. Skirmishes with the armed guard as usual. But today was different. They spoke about not being able to drive in the streets, of the chaos, of the sheer number of human bodies, of the determination to do something to help Gaza—something has changed. This time, it feels different.
Additional important context: Jordan was created in 1946. When Britain divided up the Arab World into nation states. Before that there was free movement & a greater degree of one-ness. So when Jordanians say they there is no difference between us and the Palestinian people or that we are the same people , it is because the British creation of nation states was a Western government forcing the Arab people into its Western constructs.
[about further protests in Jordan] There are already plans to start again —at Maghreb tomorrow (sunset)—at the Israeli embassy and doing a sit-in again until dawn, interspersed with prayers. Tomorrow will mark day 5 of protests in Amman."

a government that takes voter's opinions as a suggestion rather than a rule is not a democracy and should not be expected to function like one. stop expecting people to vote for a candidate that kills people just because you're still hanging on to the idea that your government that means anything

Dear friends,
Thank you so much to those of you who have supported and/or shared the story of my friend Loai, his family, and Gaza Plays Peace, the children's soccer program that he and his family run. The funds raised have helped the family and players with food, water, and shelter.
Tumblr media
Above: Loai's family in Gaza: Mother, father, two brothers, two sisters, and three young nieces.
Until recently, Gaza Plays Peace operated out of Gaza City, but the Ahmed Family (including much of the GPP crew) has been displaced to Rafah. Their house in Gaza City has been destroyed. Some relatives and GPP players are still trapped in Gaza City and are unable to evacuate. I will update this post if that changes.
Tumblr media
Above: the ruins of the Ahmed family home in Gaza City.
The Ahmed family's situation has become more dire, with children desperately needing medical care and nutrition that they cannot access in Rafah.
Every day these people live in fear that they might die at any moment because of the attacks being carried out on Rafah. Loai has set up this fundraiser to help his family evacuate.
Please donate if you are able. If you or your employer want to donate but require the donation to be tax-deductible, please reach out to me directly and I can help coordinate this. The GoFundMe is not tax-deductible at this time.
Loai has 9 family members he is trying to evacuate: 6 adults and 3 children. Travel agencies are willing to help families across the border for a price. Rates for evacuating adults are between $5000 and $7000 per adult, and rates for children under 12 are around $2500 per child. Including living and travel expenses immediately after evacuation and allowance for slight price increases, evacuating them will be around $60,000.
Loai gives more details (and photos, please look!) on his family members in the fundraiser itself, but here is a summary of the people we are trying to evacuate:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loai's mother and father, Wesam and Eman
Tumblr media
Loai's adult brother, Mohammed (coach of Gaza Plays Peace, pictured with players here in Summer 2023)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loai's adult sisters, Reham and Elman
Tumblr media
Loai's teenage brother, Omar (striker on GPP's first generation team--he is not a young child and would be charged the adult price for crossing)
Tumblr media
Loai's 3 young nieces, Rafeef, Ayla, and Aylool (these three young girls, aged 5, 3, and 3, all need nutrition and medical care.) Rafeef played on the GPP junior team in 2023.
Please donate if you are able, and please share.
Thank you <3
Editing to add: please be mindful of the tags you use, as tags can get the post and/or fundraiser taken down

maybe this is an unpopular opinion but even when i'm absolutely obsessed with characters, i don't care at all about the actors who play them. they're just people, why are y'all putting them on a pedestal.

it goes against so much of what i stand for to share "palestinians are humans, they have hobbies, they have pets, they laugh and cry" kind of posts because i've spent so much of my life and career completely rejecting the notion that we should humanize ourselves, that we should ever be defensive, that we should entertain this racism at all
but it breaks my heart when i have to share them from people in gaza, who are using their five minutes of internet connection, their 25% of battery charge collected from a macguyvered car battery, emotionally exhausted, thirsty and hungry, sleeping in schools that have turned into refugee shelters and still making the time to say "please, i am human too, i am still alive, please fight for me" in english to appeal to the only people who have the power to help
i shared a tweet from a jjk artist in gaza i follow about a bts photocard being found in the middle of the rubble. even the love of anime and kpop and sports is no longer just a hobby, but an appeal to humanity. what was once a source of joy is now proof of life.
the worst part is that you won't find this content in arabic. palestinians don't post like this in arabic. but when they translate themselves, they recognize that they must humanize themselves first. it's an unspoken understanding of dehumanization, one that has dictated a whole region's understanding of the value of human life. in arabic they speak with dignity, with anger, with sorrow. in english, they appeal for their existence.
i share these posts not just because we have to reach everyone we can, because im being asked to and i will not refuse. but i also share them because they're evidence of how deep the racism has run. at what dehumanization leads to. of war crime after war crime. this too i will not forget.

warnings: fem!reader, tsum loves his gf (you), never tell atsumu i wrote this about him, cutesy<3
Tumblr media
atsumu miya who hates it when people say to you “oh you’re atsumu’s girlfriend!” or refer to you as just “atsumu’s girlfriend” instead of your name.
atsumu miya who thinks you’re the best thing to ever happen to him, so if he’s around to hear it he always takes over the conversation.
“actually, i’m ‘er boyfriend.” atsumu gave girl in front of you a sickeningly fake smile. he didn’t miss the confused look on their face as they processed what he said. “isn’t that the same thing?” atsumu loved when they asked that question, because then he got to talk about his favorite thing: you. “nah,” he shook his head, glancing quickly between you and the poor strange that did this to herself. “she deserves to be known fer more than jus’ bein’ m’girlfriend. but ‘m just some dude she puts up with.” atsumu knew he was underselling himself (and you thought he was overselling you), but still meant every word he said. “could lose m’entire career tomorrow ‘nd i wouldn’t care s’long as she’s still there.” atsumu beamed now, a real smile. he didn’t care about the way the girl just mumbled an “okay?” before walking away, but he did care about the look on your face right after. “do you have to do that every time someone calls me your girlfriend?” you frown, grabbing onto his hand that he so kindly held out for you. “doesn’t it get tiring to tell people all that?” “could never get tired of talkin’ ‘bout ya.” atsumu leaned in to dramatically kiss you on the cheek, laughing as your shove him away. “could listen to yer laugh forever.” “shut up.”
atsumu miya who, at the end of the day, doesn’t really care who’s know for what — he’s just happy he gets to have you by his side.

for character bingo, Amy Foster?
Tumblr media
I. AM. SO. NOT. NORMAL. ABOUT. HER.
I literally love her so much (hence. Song) but honestly I cannot stop thinking about her and WISH SHANNON WOULD BRING HER UP MORE. She’s the human side of the new connection between the Elvin and human world. The beginning of a new era. SHE SHOULD BE BROUGHT UP MORE
Anyway I’m in love with her character
