Lucifer has never been in-tune with his feelings. It's always been a back-and-forth between his pride and his emotions, and his pride has always won. But when you came to the Devildom, he thought something might finally change.
You could tell that there was something different about Lucifer. Maybe it was the way that he walked, talked, or maybe it was all of the above. All you knew is that he was somehow an asshole and perfect at the same time.
And you were addicted.
He didn't mind the little gestures that you did for him. Actually, he welcomed them. His office was always open for you to pop your head in, and the coffee you poured him was always finished (even if you made it too bitter or too watered down).
As you read or played games silently while he worked, listening to a record of your choice, he wished if every day could be like that. The two of you together and never changing.
He hated that he loved the feeling.
Diavolo noticed that there was something different about Lucifer.
"Hey! Are you okay?" he asked the black-haired demon.
"Yes," Lucifer responded with. He fit his sin too much to tell the truth. That he wasn't okay.
"Lucifer." Diavolo frowned, pushing the topic.
"Everything is fine. I am fine." Lucifer lied through his teeth as he attempted to end the conversation.
It worked.
When you finally confessed to Lucifer, he didn't know how he was supposed to respond. But when he's at a loss, his sin takes over. Especially when it shouldn't.
"You should know that we cannot be in a relationship," he frowned involuntarily. "I'm one of the strongest demons in Devildom and you're just... a human."
"Yes, but—"
He cut you off. "No. We can't date. I don't reciprocate your feelings."
And as tears started to form in your eyes and he turned to walk away from you, he didn't know how to process the pit of guilt that started to form in his stomach.
