tbh my take on the whole “should batman kill the joker” thing is that batman is a volunteer gig, and bruce is allowed to have boundaries

should *someone* kill the joker? maybe, idk. that’s above my pay grade. but just bc bruce wayne is willing to shoulder the weight of the world (whether anyone actually wants him to or not) doesn’t mean we should all just accept that it belongs to him. he chooses to help in what ways he is able, the ways he can live with, and if killing is the one line he won’t cross no matter what, well, it could be worse. but he has no actual moral obligation to do any of what he’s doing, actually, and if having this one boundary firmly in place is what keeps him from having a mental breakdown and becoming the thing he swore to stop, then i say more power to him and we could honestly all stand to learn from his example

i rly rly hate how this site chased so much of its poc userbase away. it feels like i'm hanging out in an ethnostate sometimes

a lot of people criticize the writing of the earlier seasons for sam and dean saying john “did the best he could”. No, he didn’t, but he ‘raised’ them, and they loved him. But you can see a shift after his death, you can see how they realized he didn’t do his best.

You see it in how angry Dean gets when he finds out a parent is raising their child to be a hunter. You can see it in the way they interact with kids/teenagers and they do their best not to make the same choices John did.

Just because Sam and Dean said ‘he did the best he could’ doesn’t mean the show wasn’t showing that he didn’t. We INSTANTLY see that Dean knew his father was possessed because he said he was proud of him.

Dean was desperate for his approval, which left to him making excuses and justifying John’s actions. Nothing is more important to him than family. John was never framed as a good father, but it takes time to realize how fucked up your childhood was.
