What do you get when you throw turquoise, amber and a pink sapphire on your bench with a bunch of textured sterling silver and a little bit of brass? Why this stacking ring set of course! Do you know a great way to stay warm in the winter? Try annealing a large piece of metal! 😂 The amount of heat needed to anneal this piece of metal over and over again is what is keeping me warm in my studio right now and I'm not mad about it....Now if this was summer, I may have a different story to tell... but right now, I am enjoying the process... I love leather and silver together, don't you? I also like to mix other things together that you might not see in jewelry all that often.... found objects such as shells🐚, driftwood, antler, coral, old keys🗝... the list could go on! I have also carved ebony and rosewood to incorporate into pieces... each one is so beautiful in its own way so why not mix them in with some silver and semi precious stones! Happy Tuesday! Is anyone done their shopping and ready for the holidays yet? yeah... me neither....I am hosting Christmas Eve this year, like I do every year, and it's always so much work! Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining...I love doing it! It's just a lot of work....but it also means I don't have to leave my house if the weather is bad or if its freezing out! One of the best tools I have every owned.....just sayin....this thing saves me so much time and it does the job right every time! Don't you love it when you find something so great you don't know how you ever lived without it? When I was learning silversmithing a tumbler was not an option in the studio where I learned. We polished everything by hand and it took FOREVER... Once I set up my own studio I bought a tumbler. I fell in love with it. The polish I got was so much better than the one I got buy hand polishing. And once I started teaching classes I made sure to have one in my classroom too. So if you have been following me for a while you should know how much I love blue stones and statement jewelry... so today I thought I would share some pieces out of my personal collection... This is a Leland blue necklace and ring "set" that I made but couldn't part with. I made these pieces quite a few years ago so technically they could be a #throwbackthursday photo... funny thing is ... I don't wear these pieces all that much and never really have even tho the big and blue... but I still can't part with them. There is something about the raw edge in that giant chunk of Leland blue that I am drawn to everytime I look at it! I have a few vintage pieces of jewelry that I feel the same way about. Do you own pieces like this? A piece or 2 you don't use but still need in your life?
