Inching ever closer to the end of the recent arc, things are getting exciting. The escape plan, partnerships old and new. The talk about redemption. And most of all, the complex emotions one has for another due to the wrongdoings they've done. There is one thing bothering me though: a security camera in Puzzles' cell.

Naturally, the prison would have the right to keeping an eye over a prisoner in solitary confinement. Except, if we're supposed to assume so, there should be no other reason for that ominous shot.

Unless, someone else is also watching over Puzzles...

The One Behind the Camera

Hello, internet, welcome back to SMG4 theory where the real jailbreak were the friends we made along the way! It's been a while since I've done a theory, huh.

The first half of 2025 has interesting for SMG4 viewers; an arc dedicated to Karen and family dynamics, numerous references to IGBP, side characters getting the spotlight. And now, as we pass by the recent arc, in which I nicknamed “The Jailbreak Arc”, it can’t be helped but be full of anticipation — some due to the Team behind the show wanting to pursue more character exploration for future storylines.

Naturally, the theorists are hard at work trying to figure out the next plot point. Me? Well, let’s go back a bit, when I watched the release of the episode “PrisonVision”.

After Leggy 2.0 was destroyed by Hal Monitor, we get this clip:

Did you catch that? Well, it'd be hard not to notice, huh.

The lone camera in Puzzles’ cell, located in the left corner above the door. Again, as mentioned previously, it's reasonable why it might be placed there. With the charges Puzzles was facing and the fact that he’s been sentenced to death row, the prison would be keeping an eye on him. However, that ominous shot has been bothering me as the days go by. Why did the episode had such emphasis on its existence? As someone who works in the production field, I had a feeling this was intentional for another reason.

Of course, this being a silly lil' meme show, not everything's not supposed to be taken seriously. But if I was able to pick apart the symbols of the black goo from IGBP, then yall already know every detail matter to me. And you might say that "this is some goose chase", maybe you're right. But what kind of theorist would I be if I don't have indulge in the fun speculation?

“Other than the clip, do you have any other evidence?”

We unfortunately don’t get another mention to the camera nor was there a clear indication who’s behind it. However, if I learned anything from the these arc story structures, it’s that there’s a high possibility for a twist/cliffhanger — this might narrow down the suspects.

Now, with this in our handy-dandy notebook, why don’t we go over the list of suspects:

SUSPECT #1: the partner

The first suspect that came to mind was a renown criminal out of magenta slime and part of the villain trio, Toomp. Ever since his appearance at the start of the arc, people have been suspicious of him. Some have theorized that he was the twist villain of the arc, planning to double-cross Puzzles and WPNZ. Others theorized that he was the same red goo from IGBP. While any of these are yet to be proven, it’s curious we were quick wanting to know why he joined Puzzles’ plan for revenge. He never made a deal like the one WPNZ has and with the record he had, you certainly would’ve expected Toomp to escape prison sooner.

That said, being the criminal with said record (which includes “taking out the queen”) and able to fix WPNZ up at the end of the “A VERY Unlikely Friendship” episode, Toomp might have the skills to hack the system for his own use. I mean, hey he was the one who turned on the TV in the cell to present WPNZ to Puzzles. As to what for, that’s what we don’t know yet. Maybe he has an ulterior motive. There is still a lot we don’t know much about Toomp — he just debut to the show after all. But considering that he could work out being the twist for the arc, it’s not out of the question either.

SUSPECT #2: the protector

Other than the literal slimy criminal, there was one other character I had in mind as a possible suspect. One that is the best fit in every category, including the element of surprise for the twist.

The second suspect is SMG4, local meme guardian and narrative foil to Puzzles.

Now, at the time this was written, 4 might’ve only appeared in the “Split” episode but that doesn’t make him any less of a suspect. Anyway, every suspect has at least these two things, opportunity and motive. Opportunity? Well, let’s go over the facts:

4 was the one who called the police to arrest Puzzles at the end of WOTFI 2024

Befriended a hacker (Melony) and in the government (Chris and Swag)

Sort of has hacking skills himself but is more skilled in his PC

Previously obtained intel from an unknown source when 4 located 3’s notebook locked away in Casino Paisano (and hey, would you look at that? camera footage)

4 would have every resource he could ask for. “Why is he watching over Puzzles?”, and the answer’s pretty simple: because it’s Puzzles.

It’s been known that 4 holds a grudge on Puzzles just as much as Puzzles is holding one on him for over 2 years now. Puzzlevision, the memewave arc. WOTFI. Over and over, no matter what, Puzzles keeps coming back. The first time he returned in the “Mario The Exploro” episode, 4 just ignored him — Puzzles can’t do anything without his 5 stars. But he didn’t ignore because he forgot what Puzzles has done to the Crew, but rather he can’t afford to face the one responsible for it. In fact, he doing everything he can to suppress his trauma and imperfections, to put on a brave face for his friends. His friends need him, he can still fix things. Not being to accepted what happened, this in turn has unfortunately caused more harm to them and to himself.

Things changed when WOTFI 2024 rolled around. Meggy was forced to turn back into Leggy, the whole Crew was trapped in Puzzle Park. Of course, 4 saved the day alongside Mario, as they usually do. But for a guy who would do anything to not lose his friends, this was the last straw.

Just as he did with his trauma, 4 locked Puzzles away and made sure he never interfered with his friends again. No matter the cost.

Well, except for one thing he didn’t account for: Meggy saying that she’s considering lawyering up to help with Puzzles’ sentencing. But it’s not like she’s actually gonna go with it, it was just to get Leggy back.

….Right?

(It could explain why signs of 4’s perfectionist side started showing up after SOTC. I mean, he expressed the stress he gets at the mere thought of one friend being close to Puzzles, seen in the “Split” episode. AND and how obsessive 4 can be on certain projects meant for good intentions, that being his friends too. Who’s to say he was already on edge by keeping an eye on him.)

Of course, possibilities being as they are, I have to include a third suspect: that being a character we have yet to meet. Perhaps it’s a new villain? Hitman Inc? Maybe it was someone part of Puzzles’ past? Could be the same person that may have given Puzzles the cursed keyboard/tech (if it didn’t come from the showman himself).

If you think the Team wouldn’t be able to add another new character into the arc, think again. They’ve done it before, and they absolutely can with the hints they’ll leave behind.

Who can say? But one’s things for sure: someone has taken interested in Puzzles for a reason. And whoever it may be, whatever was captured, that’s between the watcher and the lens of that security camera. But hey, that’s just a theory…

DUDE I've been wishing for a "we're not so different" moment between 4 and Puzzles!!

that is such a great idea! maybe each of them explores the other's mindscape (idk I was thinking some spiderman stuff rn lol) it can seriously go both ways but I am REALLY interested in what their reaction would be afterward. Sure, they might feel a sense of empathy for what the other has been through but would they apologize? Or even forgive?

No teaser these days, aside from the one posted hours after the episode, which is no surprise considering the pattern. The arc has been getting closer to the finale, so to keep the hype going, how about a theory? :)

what do you think will happen to Mr. Puzzles and Mr. WPNZ once the arc is over?

Before I give my actual thoughts, apparently people have pointed out that WPNZ is getting a lot of death flags as the arc goes on, and they're starting to think that he might die by the end. Personally, I don't think so, there is still a lot of potential you can do with WPNZ.

Anyway, back to the ask. After seeing how conflicted Puzzles was at the end of the last one, their partnership might continue on afterward, into something more genuine than this transactional exchange. Puzzles never had a real friendship before and he already lost Leggy (2.0). But now she's got WPNZ and Toomp, she's not alone anymore.

Same goes to WPNZ. The only other person he was close with was Karen, and he's proud of his kids. But after what happened in SOTC, things aren't the same anymore.

And hey, I did say that the deal might change over time (it could still happen)

I've actually seen a couple of people speculating about the connection, and I think I talked about it here???

well, a bajillion things are swarming around my theorist mind so I can't keep track of everything haha

I think what we said last time was that Puzzles might've came from the Godbox/is a virus similar to it. Anyway, I think it's a fun idea, and it feels like it could fit with the goop!4/goo!puzzles thing. It realistically might've been unintentional, but where's the fun in that? ^^

⭐️ If you had to choose, what would be your favorite thing about the SMG4 series?

wait, I have to pick one? ADJKL;JK aw man, you really put me in the corner here. alright then, if I had to choose one, my favorite thing about the show is the consistent message of "love wins. love always wins."

Even for a silly meme show, love was the most important element, always there. The show actually showed so many types: platonic, romantic, self-love, passion toward work, found family. It gives purpose for these characters, and their true resolve to their battle/arc. Simply being there for each other through difficult times. It can also go the other way, where the conflicts were rooted by the wish to be loved/lack of love.

Aside from the show's plot, love also extends to the Team behind it. So much passion is put into production, from each role. As someone who's in a similar line of work, I appreciate the effort that goes into it. Always has and always will be my Saturday Morning Cartoon (TM).

I do love the "turns to a real boy" scenario for the end, it fits right in with the whole "love wins. love always wins." thing the show hasgoing on, definitely keeping the wheelchair. experimenting 2: electric boogaloo

Yall certainly didn't fall to disappoint with the first poll, a fierce battle of colors. Particularly, yellow and purple, which was a surprise. The others? Well...not so much. For that, I thought I should give a final round for heterochromia 3, but this time yall got 3 days :)

now, something that I left out on the previous poll and for those who weren't caught up with the experiment from the very beginning, there's some backstory behind the color change related to 4. In short:

heterochromia 4 = aftermath from IGBP 2 -> heterochromia 3 = for saving him

3 & 4 are guardian partners after all, so it's only logical that they share a change. It also fits quite well with the themes too, knowing me. Well then, let's pick the best one: yellow and purple, as explained, and blue as it was my personal choice

ay, colors got a reason, it ain't just for the funsies! Once again, letting yall choose the color but I decide which heterochromia I'll be working with. May the battle begin!! >:)
