These are photographs I make as a way of making sense of the world I live in, and how I connect to the way I feel about what I see, and who I am.

As a person who has spent my life looking at others, I’m still curious about what they are thinking and feeling. We are each our own universe. #coneyislandboardwalk #life #humanity #universe #universal #streetphotography #streetportrait

I know nothing about this man, other than what I see in the photo. The rest I imagine. Where does your imagination take you when you look at this photo? #imagine #imagination #empathy #commenground #humanity

Joe Gula was a barber in Kearny NJ for a few decades from the 60’s and into the 90’s I believe. He smoked cigars, dressed very dapper, and like to threaten squirming little boys with cutting their ears off if the didn’t settle down, much to the delight of their fathers. His barbershop was more like a clubhouse for like minded men. With a bit of cajoling I was able to make this photo of him despite my long hair. #leicam4p #leica35mmsummicron #kodaktrix #1987

This is Ahmad. He sold me a new phone a few weeks ago. Next time I was in he remembered me because of my camera. We had a long and interesting conversation and got to know each other a bit. I’m glad we took the time to connect. Over the past few years it’s occurred to me that everything and everyone in my life is there because I’ve been a photographer, which is all I ever wanted to be. I’m a very lucky guy. #photographysavedmylife #portraitphotography

In 1988 the steps of the NY Public Library on 5th Avenue was an amazing place to see and be seen on a nice spring day at lunchtime. A college quad for adults. #nypl

In 1979, I was 19, and while working briefly at Tiffany & Co. as staff photographer, I was sent to photograph Paloma Picasso as she was being announced as one of their new designers. Despite my nervousness I remembered to put film in the camera and get my flash exposure correct. #palomapicasso

Back in 1992 when this photograph was made, the fringe was still on the fringe. Platforms like this have given everyone a megaphone. Now the fringe is mainstream. Be careful out there, everyone is a salesperson.
