Experience the sublime beauty of reality in a sattvic mode (though sattvic can be applied in perhaps more nuanced ways than one might initially think — we are not limited to conventional, and ultimately material, notions of white and dark magic, after all). It is a means for challenging the notion that the working class should be content to live as beasts of burden, never raising our heads long enough to sip the sweet ambrosia of incarnate existence 🌞

I've been revisiting the ceremony documented in Death, Resurrection, Ascension, which took place in 2012 and was premiered in 2018, while working on an occult non-fiction work of writing. During the documented ceremony, my co-ritualist and I worked to undercover and heal trauma from her rape. At the climax of the ceremony, a Celtic deity called Andraste was invoked by the rape survivor. I knew little about the goddess at the time of the ceremony when she made her presence known spontaneously and instilled an intense message of the necessity of connecting to the fount of holy-dark rage that exists as a counter to the dark social conditioning that keeps women placid and compliant--which can be cripplingly dangerous in the context of rape culture. Later, when I researched more about Andraste, I discovered that one of her most famous historical mentions is in the accounts of Queen Boudicca, a warrior who led the native British Iceni tribe to battle against the Roman colonizers. She called upon Andraste for strength and chanelled her righteous rage at having to witness the rape of her daughters at the hands of the Roman colonizers, and led one of the most famous revolts against them in British history. Naiad Morphology 2:06 min. performance, 2021 (collaboration with Raghunath Khe) The work mixes recordings of the river at the site of the performance, taken beforehand from 7 locations a few meters apart, with each recording filtered to a locked frequency range. During the performance the recordings merged back together in varying states of overlap to form one whole, yet fluctuating, unified range. Modulated minimal effects were utilized in response to the unfolding synchronous sound environment. The harp element features a mixture of composed and improvised melodies. The piece exists as a Fluxian gesture, embracing absurdity and lightheartedness to create a disruption to the drearrealism of a popular jogging path in Byrne Creek, Burnaby. In the space of this disruption, two mythopoetic figures become merged with the topography of the land, draped in swamp flowers from a nearby bog, producing harmonies siphoned from the voice of the river. .

Vessel 1 found objects, ritual-ash infused glass, aluminum leaf, resin 19″ x 7″ 2021 The ashes in this are from a November 2018 ceremony where a group of spiritualists set themselves the task of using their personal power in service of the rebuilding of society and toppling oppression. This is the substance of the essence in the Vessel 1, it exists as an effigy of service to the one-all.

I am grateful to be in Canada where the lockdown is partial. I can’t even fathom the abhorrent degree of mental suffering that’s being extolled on populations in other places. What people don’t understand about disabilities is that the burden of trying to arrange needs into tiny avenues, when your support system is suddenly unable to meet because of the restrictions, is enough to bring people to ending their lives. People are killing themselves due to loneliness. I recently lost a colleague due to an overdose; those normally encouraged to use together are using alone and dying. I know people who have been brought to that brink.. Even if the lockdown in Canada is partial, the more we foster public consent around it in our globalized society, the more this rhetoric flourishes in countries where people are literally not allowed to leave their homes. We need to challenge the root of this ideology because it is an act of violence against the mentally ill. To be an ally to the disabled is to revoke simplistic lockdown narratives that vitally protect the life of one demographic while violently endangering the lives of another. Instead of being 100% adamant on a lockdown and pushing the narrative that this is optimum, we need to shift public discourse away from the idea that a lockdown that endangers the lives of the mentally ill is something we flagrantly support. We need to, with the same fire we devote towards other social injustices, affirm that we do not consent to the current lockdown model and that it’s imperative to find alternative solutions that protect the immunocompromised and elderly *as well* as the mentally ill, through a financial supplement for the former that affords them the option of being able to stay home until the vaccine is distributed en masse. I know people who are suffering silently because they think their lockdown induced suicidality is too controversial. Don’t let politicians convince you that this is the best they can do if best means severely endangering the lives of a minority group.

A lot of writing that discusses power dynamics, when viewed from an occult perspective, can be translated to specific metaphysical dynamics. For example, in Audre Lorde's 'Uses of the Erotic: the Erotic as Power' she writes that "In order to perpetuate itself, every oppression must corrupt or distort those various sources of power within the culture of the oppressed that can provide energy for change. For women, this has meant a suppression of the erotic as a considered source of power”. Lorde discusses the repression of female sexuality, and how it blocks our erotic creative, which when unlocked would enable us to change challenge oppressive structures. In my work recently I've been writing about the way that this applies in a metaphysical sense, and how the sexual drive creates the potential for accessing transcendent states through the activation of the Kundalini, an esoteric practice the mastery of which, among other things, afford it's practitioners currents of power coursing through the body. The attempt to control the female sexuality, which has it's roots in Christian hegemonic influence over the Western world, is an attempt to control the literal occulted power of humanity, a power which when activated, facilitates a kind of “supernatural” ability destabilize the kyriarchal systems that have kept humanity in bondage. In the 21st century we find ourselves in the middle of something of an occult renaissance—we're living through that moment of activation right now.
