i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is “international” pride month just because something happened in the united states.

in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.

But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.

our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1989. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.

anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.

I am unfortunately very busy these days, but I wanted to make something for Pride Month, anyway. So you all get to hold onto this quick sketch that I made of some of the Sonic characters celebrating their identities (aka my personal favorite headcanons).

I will try my best to finish this before the month's end, but if I don't at least this is here.

This is something I think about often nowadays, mainly after watching Encanto for the first time. I try to think about how many behaviours, traditions and taboos my family, and overall country, do, or don't do, due to generational trauma. So far I haven't been all that successful, though. Maybe because I have always lived like this, so my brain registers everything as "normal".

if you absolutely must, in primarily muscle force-based sports, create competitive classes like in boxing except separated by body comp, not just pure body weight. i mean, if you must. this will eliminate any tiny advantages in muscle mass. some will say basketball should have height classes but frankly some of the NBA's most impressive players were not tall so idk that this actually matters ever

the primary athletic impediment to all women is overwhelmingly cultural and psychological. i have won probably half the physical competitions with cis men that i have engaged in, friendly or otherwise. even without the benefit of a lifetime of people trying to make me throw or hit balls, i have won wrestling matches, sparring matches, funny backyard foam sword fights, video games, equestrian activities, dance, endurance tests of various kinds, etc. i'm small and weak. men think theyre stronger and more skilled than they are, women think the opposite about themselves

humans just arent that differently-sized or -shaped, as a species. we have almost no sexual dimorphism at all compared to the vast majority of other mammals.

animals that have similar levels of sexual dimorphism to humans, for example cats, dogs, and horses, do not generally have competitive events segregated by sex. the dog agility trials dont normally have separate leagues for male and female dogs (gendered competitions exist they're just unusual). because it doesnt matter. there is no kentucky derby 2 just for girl horses. thats not a thing

remove all gendered categories from online shopping websites and universalize clothing and shoe sizing. im sick of having to search two entirely different sections of ebay when im just trying to find a nice velvet loafer in size 39 EU. what the hell is "women's clothing"

So the other day @knightlynight and I were talking and the subject of Pokemon came up. Specifically, we were talking about how the current stories Pokemon games try to tell don't work with a silent protagonist and we brought up Sun and Moon as an example and how much better the games would have been, if we got to play them AS Lillie.

At some point @knightlynight mentioned how we can even keep the player choice between a boy and a girl, by giving them the option to simply switch to play as Gladion. Then that got me thinking that that would mean the Lillie would automatically get Gladion’s role in the game… And I just couldn’t help myself, so here is Edgy Lillie for everyone!

I didn't want her to just straight up be a female Gladion, so I gave her her own aesthetic and her own team.

Gladion's outfit reminds me a lot of Zoroark, one of his signature pokemon (I don't know if that was the intention), so since Lillie is heavily associated with Alolan Vulpix, I decided to change up the colors and shapes and make hers reminiscent of snow storm clouds.

Because of the anime, I was under the impression that Gladion is a Dark Type specialist and I was prepared to make Lillie an Ice Type specialist. So I was very surprised when I realized I was wrong, while making her team, and it threw a wrench at my plans.

So, as stated previously, Lillie is associated with Alolan Vulpix, so she gets to keep it. I also gave her the Zubat line, because it felt fitting with her "new" role in the story. I also gave her the Pancham line, for some reason, with Team Skull and everything, I thought it was fitting. The story requires her to have Type: Null, so she gets that also. I was caught very off guard when I saw Gladion uses a Porygon-Z. I thought it was so out of left field, and, in my attempt to also find something out of left field, I gave her a Kangaskhan. Looking back that one is not THAT out of left field, considering what happens in the story. And of course she also gets the rotating Kanto starter.

I was playing the new tournament that started a couple days ago, and I only lost a couple times. I stopped once I reached the Pokeball Tier and went to collect the tickets I got from "Thanks".

But, when I got there I was only met with 2 tickets, presumably from the people that I lost to...

RUDE!!! I sent "Thanks" to all of you!!
