What do you see in Taylor Swift?

I often get asked what do you see in Taylor Swift?  I think when the average person thinks about who is a Taylor Swift fan or Swiftie they imagine a tween girl. I mean I’m a married women at 27 years old with a professional career. There are several reasons why Taylor has a special place in my heart: 1. I’ve grown up with Taylor Swift (technically 2 years ahead of her) and her music was always so relatable for me.  Like Taylor, I was tall and never popular in school. I wouldn’t necessarily say I was bullied, but I  remember being put down for never having held a boy’s hand as of Freshman year of undergrad, when I’m sure many of my other teammates had gone to first base. I didn’t have my first kiss until Senior year of undergrad. At the end of the day, that was OK for me. Rather than feeling down, for  years I studied hard, worked hard on the court, and was involved in community service when I could be.  I’ve since earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy and married the most supportive husband a girl could ask for. 2. I’ve always admired Taylor’s modesty and ability to avoid negative publicity naturally. My efforts to emulate Taylor Swift involved flowing curly hair, sparkly sequined dresses, and most recently the bravery to part with my long hair.

3. Taylor has been generous with her time and money. I take note when Taylor donates books to Library’s,  visits children in hospitals, makes donations to disaster relief..etc.

4. Taylor is hardworking. Just look at October 2014, the number of appearances, magazine covers, concerts require a lot of time away from home.

5. Taylor has matured into a strong, independent women. It’s so wonderful to see Taylor making such strong friendships over the past couple of years.

6. She has 2 cats. I’m constantly defending that I can’t be both married AND a cat lady since I have 3.

7.  I will admit I struggle with “celebrity.” I was never brought up to put anybody on a pedestal. I can’t really recall ever having any posters of actors/actresses/musicians on my walls growing up. I recently came across a video of the paparazzi  photographing Taylor Swift at an airport and it legitimately gave me anxiety. I was asked how much I would pay to have dinner with Taylor Swift, and the answer is I wouldn’t. I have thought about what I would say to Taylor Swift if I had the opportunity to meet her; however, I think it would be a simple Thank You. Through her music, she’s been there for me through good times and bad over the past several years.

8. Most recently 1989 has gotten me through several 1 hour jogs on the treadmill as I train for my first half marathon. I think Taylor would approve of my thexy running tights.

If any fellow Swifties read this continue to exemplify the greatest qualities of Taylor Swift: Be kind, be happy, be charitable, be strong, respect yourself, surround yourself with friends that share your values,  and lastly work hard to achieve your dreams.
