I actually think that it is really neat that an artist was able to create a mischievous little guy that people are obsessed with worldwide and even dress up to look like themselves.
Artists are constantly devalued, but they are the ones capable of designing and making stuff that resonates with people on a large scale.
I don't have strong feelings about Labubus, I think they're cute but I don't have any desire to collect them, but I do think the "discourse" around them is sooo strange. A lot of people point to them as the Tiktok fueled demise of all hope and the avatar of overconsumption and like . . .
Fads have existed forever. Cabbage Patch Kids, pogs, and, in 1634, tulip bulbs.
The modern avatar of overconsumption is clearly Funko Pops.

Played Fear and Hunger, made it past the squishy flesh cave, evaded the Trortur, decided it was a good idea to jump down the bathroom pit, had to commit suicide to escape.
