Did Queen Mary have natural or caesarean births? since this is never talked about
Hello!
As far as I know she had natural births!
There are records from George’s diary that note the length of his wife’s labours and the use of chloroform to numb her pain. No mention of any operations and he stayed with her the entire time. So I believe it’s safe to assume she had natural births.
Hope this helps! ❤️

Hello!
I’ve been getting quite a lot of asks recently, thank you so so much! I LOVE that you guys are interested!
It occurred to me that I never explained my tag!
So if you search “ask me anything” on my account, it will bring up everything I’ve ever answered, so you don’t have to scroll aimlessly through my account!
It might help answer any questions you guys have (as sadly I don’t get to my inbox that often) or might just be an interesting read!
❤️❤️❤️

What did Queen Mary think that she only had one daughter? Was he afraid of losing her?
Hello!
I’m afraid I don’t know!
I imagine so! As with the pain of any parent who worries constantly for their child! I don’t believe Mary was ever in any real danger though, and there are no accounts of her being a particularly sickly child.
She had a few health scares later in life but mostly after her mother death.
Hope this helps!

Queen Mary spent more time with her daughters-in-law than with her only daughter. Why?
Hi!
Not entirely true…
People often forget that Mary married an Earl from Leeds, so she spent a good deal of her life at the Harewood estate there. She wrote and coasted with Queen Mary as often as they could and they Lascelles did have a house in London that they stayed at (especially for the Season and when Mary had engagements).
Later in life once Harry died, Mary spent more and more time away from Harewood, she had an apartment in St James’ Palace and saw more of her mother then.
Essentially, they say each other more during Mary’s maiden years and then widow years as Mary would frequent London more then. During the later years they took tea together everyday at 5pm.
Hope this helps!

you can put some letter from Queen Mary to her daughter?
Hello!
I’ve attached this one that I saw during at exhibition at Harewood House to mark the 100th anniversary of Mary’s wedding to Harry. So bare in mind I only have a picture of the first page in the display case!
It was sent during Queen Mary and King George’s tour as Prince and Princess of Wales on the Ophir that took them all around the world to Australia and South Africa and the like. It was sent for Princess Mary’s fourth birthday.
“Darling Baby Mary,
I hope these lines will reach you on your birthday and that you will spend a very happy day and have lots of pretty presents given you. Do you know that Papa and Mama often wish that you and David, Bertie and little Harry were with them on this large ship and seeing…”

why queen mary neglects her daughter and thought more about her daughters in law?
Hello!
I’ve done a few asks like this, but long story short I don’t believe this is true at all!
She was in regular contact with all children and children-in-law and supported all of them, particularly through very painful losses such as Princess Mary when she lost her husband Harry, or Marina when she lost George, or Elizabeth when she lost Bertie.
Hope this helps!

Was Mary more in love with the crown than she was with George, Eddie or anyone else?
Hi!
No I don’t believe she was. She looked up to it as an ideal that people should strive towards, an epitome of all things good and graceful, much in the same reverence that she held her Christian beliefs. She believe monarchy was a god given right and they had a duty to serve (as it pleased god).
So I don’t think it was a “love” per se, she certainly never fell “in love” with it and she was never infatuated with it. In the words of Alexandra Churchill in her podcast ‘History Hack’ it was a job offer essentially and it was the best one she could have ever gotten because she genuinely cared about people and doing good, and what better position to do it from that as Queen of England, and at the time, Empress of a very large empire.
This may be a very convoluted way of answering your question, but no, I don’t believe she loved the concept of monarchy more than she loved her husband because the two aren’t entirely comparable. I do believe if the monarchy had ended, instead of desperately clinging to power. she would have followed George anywhere.
Hope this helps! ❤️

hi do you know where I can buy or if there are albums of King George V's children online?
Hello!
There’s “Queen Mary’s photograph album” edited by Christopher Warwick that has many of the children when they were little. Copies are usually available on ebay!
Same goes for “Queen Alexandra’s Christmas Gift Book” that she compiled as a photo album for charity. Has many of the children in it!
Other than that your best bet is the online resource of the Royal Collection Trust. You can filter searches to each individual royal and the first pages usually start from infancy and work through the ages. None are available to buy unfortunately but you can view them (or a cheeky screenshot here and there) but they are copyrighted and have not as yet been published.
Most books (published after the 50s usually) about the royal family usually contain a selection of pages throughout the book that contain photographs. Princess Mary’s biography by Elisabeth Basford for example, or Jane Ridley’s “Never a dull moment” and Alexandra Churchill’s “in the eye of the storm” are all personal favourite of mine.
Hope this helps! ❤️

who was queen Mary's favourite daughter in law?
Hello!
I got an ask similar to this a little while back, I’m afraid I still don’t know much about Marina but I do believe she loved all of them and thought very very highly of every single one (apart from Wallis obvs).
But if I were a betting woman based on what I have read, I would say Alice was her favourite, if I had to pick one!
Hope this helps ! ❤️

Is it true that George V and Queen Mary didn't think about their only daughter as she was overshadowed by her male siblings?
Hi!
Not at all! In fact Mary was often thought to be her fathers favourite! And in later life she was most likely her mothers too (as they spent a great deal of time together as both were widows).
Hope this helps! ❤️

What relationship did Queen Mary have with her only daughter?
Hello!
They had a very good relationship! Mary was her mother companion and I was secretly hoped that she would never marry! But of course she did and both her parents were so happy for her!
Mary then moved away to Leeds but exchanged frequent letters with her parents and they visited each other as often as they could (the Lascelles also had a house in London that they often stayed at).
When Harry died, Mary spent a lot of time in London, actually moving back in with her mother for a while after his death so Queen Mary could care for her. From that point on Mary had a residence in St James’ Palace, practically next door to Marlborough House where Queen Mary did and I believe they took tea together every day and often went on official engagements together!
Hope this helps! ❤️

Was Queen Mary called queen mother after George V died?
Hello!
Yes she was! During George Vi’s reign she was indeed known as the Queen Mother.
Once George VI died, Queen Elizabeth became Queen Mother (as the mother of the reigning monarch Elizabeth II) and Mary simply then became Queen Mary.
Hope this helps! ❤️

"I once discussed modern life with dear Queen Mary, remarking that I wondered what Grandmama would have said about the younger members of the Royal Family going to night clubs to dance. She thought for a moment and then replied : “There are no big houses nowadays as there were when we were young, in which they can be entertained, and therefore where should they and their contemporaries meet and amuse themselves?” I just mention this en passant , to show the wise understanding that Queen Mary had of the problems of modern life"
