I feel like Rudy and Alejandro are less excluded and more fetishized and reduced to the spicy Latin lover stereotype that most Latino and Hispanic men fall into

Most fics of them have Google translated Spanish and cringe and gross writing

Yeah, I see what you mean. I don’t know Spanish so I’ve used Google translate in the past, but I stopped that pretty quickly because I realized I wanted the writing to be authentic!! and i apologize for the previous use of it (it wasn’t just spanish, it was several other languages).

i typically put in authors notes that sentences spoken in *insert language* are in bolded italics or something similar because i’m not about to butcher languages live i have before 😭 i’m currently learning ukrainian, so hopefully that’ll be authentic!!! to an extent….. as much as a native english speaker can get it

to the first part, i 110% agree. i haven’t written much for rudy & alejandro, which def needs to change. i just haven’t had that much time to write lately…. perhaps i will do a rudy & alejandro week. hispanic and/or latino male characters can be lover-type characters without the stereotypes, folks!!!

i’m still sincerely losing my mind over this. it’s 100% possible they’ve seen appreciation posts, but they are absolutely underrated characters and undeservingly hated characters for simply being people of color. I’m extending this to rudy & alejandro as well because it’s an issue people don’t really attribute to them, but they do suffer from racism some parts of this fandom has (although, obviously it’s not as bad as it is for gaz & farah, considering how involved they’ve been with the story since mw 2019).
