— It is time for: ‘Here Are All The Important Moments and Statements That Define Tousen’s Character’ according to me

      1) The reveal of his true feelings about shinigami and their society, and making an observation about the black-and-white split that they tend to uphold with ‘good’ and ‘evil’, addressing that there seems to be no room for morally grey areas, AND subtly addressing that shinigami are NOT pure good, and have made and will make mistakes, especially in favour of their perceived justice and superiority. He further punctuates that point by becoming hollowfied himself. He perceives himself as a just person, and therefore becoming part hollow does not make him ‘evil’. Personally, in my mind, this statement is a crux for his view of the world. A system that does not serve and protect its people is not a just system. A black-and-white system will not serve justice, and therefore you have to do it yourself through whatever means necessary.

      2) His teachings to Hisagi, which { even after revealing his true feelings and motivations } have a meaning insofar that he does believe that you should not utilize violence without understanding the consequences of it { any time he has used violence himself, he has done so with his specific goal in mind }. If you do not fear battle and the things your sword can do, you should not be participating in it, because you will not care to consider what outcomes you might bring about and how it will affect others.

      3) His true feelings that he has kept hidden for so long, but have been his motivations for every single thing he has done throughout his career as a shinigami, including the violence { which he finds justifiable through his quest for revenge and justice }. He truly feared finding peace among those that allowed Kakyou to be murdered so much that he asked Aizen to destroy him should he ever waver in his resolve.

     4) See above. He reveals his hatred for the system that allowed Kakyou to be murdered and her murderer to walk free because he was of high status, and therefore could do no wrong. He also again points out that becoming part of the system that failed his friend would be the greatest betrayal. Whereas others { like Komamura } see his actions as a betrayal of the system, he sees it as being true to himself, justice and his goals to avenge Kakyou. He was never corrupted because he stayed true to what he intended from the beginning.

      5) Look how cool he is. I don’t have anything to say about this one, I just think this panel is wicked.
