The fact that the novelization couldn’t entirely capture the nuances and complexities of Kylo Ren makes you appreciate Adam Driver’s acting even more tbh
I found the last Jedi novel to be emotionless. Like a robot telling a story it was programmed to tell. I would really like a book from Kylo/Ben’s point of view, written by a woman.
*Unless you don’t do exactly what I want because I’m immature AF, impulsive, don’t think things through, and don’t understand compromise, because then I’ll just abandon you like everyone else in your life and then act like it was all your fault because I didn’t get my way. And to complete my toddler-mentality tantrum, I will glare at you and slam a door in your face.
What if both Rey and Ben’s predictions are correct? What if in Episode IX, Ben turns away from the dark side and Rey turns away from the light side to join together and live by the grey code restoring balance to the galaxy.
Me, an Intellectual: Actually, Rey is the one who continually assaults Kylo/Ben. She shot at him first, she wounded him and left him for dead, she shoots at him again, she verbally assaults him. Finally, when she doesn’t get her way, she tries to snatch back the lightsaber and leaves him while he’s unconscious, not even thinking about what might happen to him since he just killed someone to protect her.
But yeah, sure. Blame Ben/Kylo. That’s what everyone else has been doing his entire life. It’s easier than admitting the flaws of your favorites (Rey, Leia, Han, and especially Luke) that pretty much ensured that he would never have a chance.
Updating to add another pro-Adam mention from HuffPo
[It’s Time To Rethink What We Consider An Oscar Performance]
Or what about Adam Driver, who brought new layers to what could have been an archetypal villain in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”? Nah, too blockbuster-y for the stuffy Academy.
