I was rewatching the first episode of Stranger Things over eggos with little sister 3, as one does, and we got to that scene at the beginning where Will runs into his home and locks the door behind. The shadowy figure moves behind the glass in the door. The chain in the door slides off.

And my sister goes, “You realize that’s El, right?”

…Wait, what?

“Yeah, the demogorgon can’t move stuff with its mind, but Eleven can. And this is when she was escaping from the lab, so she probably saw this house and just tried to get inside to hide, and the Demogorgon was following her.”

Oh. ……..Oh.

So that’s my new favorite theory.

What fucking kills me is that Billy never got to leave his abusive home. Never got to live without the fear of getting beaten for the slightest reason. Never got to feel safe. His own mother abandoned him and left Billy with a monster of a father- yet still she was his happiest memory. He didn't hate her. He was trapped in his own body and traumatized by what he was forced to do and see- and yet the the first thing he did after regaining control was to stand tall againt the horror and protect a girl he barely knew. He was a teenage boy who never got to live his life.
