Marauders Summer camp AU

Imagine a marauders AU where they all work at a Summer camp called camp phoenix. Camp owner is Albus dumbledore camp director is McGonagall and Pomfrey is the camp Medic. James works with the bowtruckles which are the 6-7 year old girls with Pandora. Gideon and Alice work with the Puffskeins which are the male 6-7 year olds. Marlene and Fabian work with the Nifflers (girls 8-12) while the Kneazles (boys 8-12) are looked after by Peter and Frank. Remus and Emmeline work with the thunderbirds (boys 13-15) and Marlene and Mary work with the kelpies (Girls 13-15). Sirius and Xenophilius work with the survival camp called the chimera group which is co-ed from 16-17.

The drama of working side by side for 2 ish months everyday while there is the rivalry between camp pheonix and camp of the knights of walburgis where Narcissa, Dorcas, Bellatrix, Barty, Regulus and Evan all work. Peter switching to the other camp halfway through the summer. late night romantic meetings between Alice and Narcissa. James pining over Regulus. All the campers shipping Remus and Sirius.

Okay, so I've come back to say that this is definitely in the works now. I'm currently writing this with one of my best friends. I have it all drafted and everything. Just letting anyone who sees this know.

A marauders fic that is loosely based off of the next step is my dream AU to write.

Was this dreamt up because I found an old playlist grade 7 me made 7 years ago that had a song from the show that sent me down a rabbit hole?

Definitely.

Do I want to rework some of the dances to fit certain characters because the dances were iconic?

Absolutely.

My only concern about writing it is the fear that it’s already been done before, but because I’m afraid it’s been done I refuse to look into it to get the answer.

When I say the Black brothers are dramatic little cunts, what I really mean is that Regulus is dramatic and Sirius is theatric. Regulus is out here writing sad boy poetry and regularly lays prone in the middle of the floor when he’s had a shite day, while Sirius is tossing out Shakespearean-level insults while dancing on the bar.

voldemort wanted a seer. he wanted the advantage of having one on his side. and dumbledore wanted a spy. and sybill was young, her family wasn’t heavily in the war— sure she was suspected to be a member of the order (she was), but she wasn’t high target. and she was replaceable. so dumbledore wants her to be his spy, feed voldemort lies, gather intel.

but peter? there’s no way he’s letting his girlfriend, the women he loves, join the death eaters. so he volunteers in her place. and while peter wouldn’t have been his first choice, dumbledore agrees. peter pettigrew was unsuspecting, and he was friends with sirius black, who voldemort wanted dead anyway due to his family ties. peter was a known member of the order, which meant voldemort would feel like he had his own spy.

so sybill was safe, and peter was the spy. and at first that was truly all it was. peter had no intention of ever betraying his friends. but this is war. and everyone else seemed so fine, perhaps they were faking it but peter couldn’t tell. he was scared, and he regretted it immediately, what he had done. he got in over his head and now his best friends are dead, and he can’t go back to the woman he loves because she would never forgive him for this.

so he flees. he hides away. and he lives with a regret every single day.

and sybill? she wasn’t always crazy, she was truly a brilliant witch— but she can’t trust herself anymore. her thoughts aren’t safe, because she keeps seeing peter but that’s impossible, he’s dead. and she mourns, and becomes a shell of the lively girl she once was.

all because dumbledore wanted a spy.

all because two kids fell in love during a war.

jo was so reluctant to write more women in harry potter that she made it canon that the lily's only friend was snape.

we see girlfriends around her but no one ever mentions who they were. mary macdonald? she was probably just a roomate, like lavender was to hermione.

no one in the 90s tells harry how they used to be best friends with lily. everytime remus or sirius brought up friendship, they only spoke of james.

what gives? in fact, in almost the whole series, no one is even checking for lily.

i think this isn't noticed or why the impact of snape's plot twist concerning lily isn't teated as it should because of the films twisting what is and isn't canon. she's mentioned a lot more in the films that the books. the books emphasis is always on james.

lupin saying lily was at one point the only person looking out for him? movie. in the book when harry mentions hearing her literal death scream lupin just says "yOu HEaRd JaMeS?!" he completely ignores lily. francis the fish and slughorn? made up for the movie.

so when snape gives harry his memories, we see her properly. something no one has ever done before in the series. he ironically ends up doing this twice. it's also snape who shows both james and lily for who they really were, real people vs everyone's rose tinted "do not speak ill of the dead" renditions.

Firm believer in a more complex relationship between James and his parents. Something that would convey why he felt that he needed to provide for everyone around him and disregard himself.

Personally the fics where his parents could do no wrong feels off. I’m not saying they need to be like Walburga and Orion but we have to remember James is still a pure blood with older parents.
